Mirror Folding Issue

Had the exact same issue. Sprayed silicon in-between the cracks of the hinges upper and lower when folded and out. Solved the problem 100%. Give it a try.
Funny you mention this. I tried the same thing and the issue still existed once it got hot outside again. I agree with the theory it is actually the small electric motors that are truly the issue. But I guess it will be the dealership’s problem to figure out on Thursday. Will follow-up on this thread once I get it back.

Indeed but what I should have said is that there can be a LONG delay. As in you have to hold down the button and sometimes even holding it down for 10 seconds won't make them telescope out, period
Got it! That makes more sense. :p

Mine have way more white stuff in them 🤪

Wouldn’t surprise me if part or all are made of plastic anymore. In fact, the gears inside my garage door opener are plastic and experience a much higher load than these Mickey Mouse truck mirrors.

what are the gears made out of? Metal? I remember seeing some guy that made metal gears for the earlier ones that were notorious for stripping out.
Only one of the four is plastic. The secondary reduction and tiny motor worm are all metal.

Mine had the same problem a few years back. Got hit by an undercover cop driving past me on the freeway (not going code, he was just late for training) and it folded it forward. He kept driving, Not knowing it was a cop I chased him down and had highway patrol meet me. The feature stopped working, the city said they wouldn’t cover it. I assumed it was the gears stripped cuz it was getting full voltage and the motors were cycling. I ordered the gruven replacement kit and tore the mirror down. Replaced all parts to no avail. Now the motors stopped working. Took a while but I was able to track down a short in the harness from the impact. Still swapped to the new motors and gears. They are a little louder when in operation but seem to fold at the same time and have been reliable for the past couple years. If you can hear the motors engaging try with them in then pulling slight tension while you press the fold out button. It might answer some questions on if it’s just tolerance issue. I can tell you from my experience it is tight in there. Lots of plastic housings rubbing or dang close and about to. Here’s a link to the parts kit if you need em.

I just had my drivers side mirror replaced on my 21 and the motor was shot in it and would auto close slower than the passeger side all the time till the point it would half a$$ close till it finally died and i had it set to auto fold all the time since i would the truck was locked and now just gonna use it when i'm in the city.

I've got a slightly different problem with my folding mirrors.
I adjust the passenger side so I can see behind truck.
After about 6 or so folds in/out, the passenger mirror is aimed toward the ground.
I then have to re adjust it back up to see behind the truck again.
wash rinse repeat. It's a battle I'm loosing.
Driver side works fine.

Considered turning off the auto fold, but I still have to fold the mirrors every time I park in the garage.
Not sure it's worth taking to the dealer yet. Anyone else have this problem?

Funny you should mention this as I also have this problem with the same passenger mirror. But my upper glass only drops a small amount after folding in & out, so I simply use the electric adjustment to adjust it back each time, but still annoying and another issue the “technician cannot recreate” when taken to dealership for warranty replacement.

If you have and use the memory seats settings, this can be due to that.

This has happened to me in the past and I neglect to remember how I solved but it’s all about how you start and shut off the engine.

The truck wants to remember the last memory setting you used and it can’t therefore the mirrors are turned into another direction.

Finally taking my F250 Tremor in to have the passenger mirror looked at which does not fold in or out properly once the mirror gets hot sitting in the sun. That’s right, only have this issue when it gets hot sitting in the sun (no issues in cooler / colder temperatures or when parked nightly in our garage). Problem is the technician must be able to recreate the issue and the technician usually looks at it the next morning when it’s cooler out and usually cannot recreate the issue. They even told me video footage of the issue is not acceptable, it must be recreated by the technician to qualify for a warranty repair / replacement. Anyone else had this issue and found a way to deal with the “recreate” problem at the dealership ? Also, has anyone determined exactly what is causing this folding issue so I know exactly what to look for when my Tremor falls off warranty ?
We were out west in May of last year I noticed my passenger side morrow was folding in about 1 inch as I was pulling our 38 ft rv I had to stop and tie it back we were coming from yellowstone to Brigham Utah took it to the ford shop there thay told me it was not covered I only had 21,000 on it but thay would sell me one for $1800.well we still had 3 months of vacation so I took 2 bolts and drilled into the case when I got home in November I ordered one from ford for $785 bout my first ford in 1978 that is all I have had I think this my last love my trucks but there customer service SUCKS

Driver’s side is being replaced Monday $100 ESP deductible

Just wanted to circle back around to this and say thanks.
I set/reset the memory for driver 1 after positioning my passenger mirror where I wanted it.
AND haven't had a problem with it since.
Previous owner must have been a 4'6"

I knew of it because my wife is 4'11-15/16" and it would create a disaster every time I'd get back in until we figured this out.

For those that haven't met him, that is pretty close to his true height.
He mentioned that he had his "Escorts" help get him up in the seat.
I like them tall ladies! They never shortchange me 🤪
