Finally taking my F250 Tremor in to have the passenger mirror looked at which does not fold in or out properly once the mirror gets hot sitting in the sun. That’s right, only have this issue when it gets hot sitting in the sun (no issues in cooler / colder temperatures or when parked nightly in our garage). Problem is the technician must be able to recreate the issue and the technician usually looks at it the next morning when it’s cooler out and usually cannot recreate the issue. They even told me video footage of the issue is not acceptable, it must be recreated by the technician to qualify for a warranty repair / replacement. Anyone else had this issue and found a way to deal with the “recreate” problem at the dealership ? Also, has anyone determined exactly what is causing this folding issue so I know exactly what to look for when my Tremor falls off warranty ?

Had the exact same issue. Sprayed silicon in-between the cracks of the hinges upper and lower when folded and out. Solved the problem 100%. Give it a try.

I used WD-40 silcone spray FYI.

Suggest that the tech apply some low heat to the joints with a heat gun. Probably a tight tolerance/expansion issue.

The motors are cheap brushed units that don’t do well with a high ambient temp rise. More voltage helps these motors immensely.

When folded in and out to be clear

Did you add more voltage to yours? 😀

Not yet. 16v boost circuit would be ideal. Silicone isn’t the long term solution. Have done it many times on my truck. The worm gear and motor assembly doesn’t even get any of the lubrication spray.

I realize your the expert, but it has lasted 18 months so far for me.

Will have to try CRC PTFE PowerLube on the hinge points. Seems like a similar maintenance item to trailer slides.
While I enabled Lincoln Experience, I have gotten used to disabling autofold in the cluster. The button is very convenient and doing it manually cuts down on the number of cycles dramatically. But I have noticed the passenger side mirror is faster than the driver's side.

I disabled mine one Winter and never turned the autofold back on. Around here they will freeze closed and not reopen until they thaw. I just do it on command with the door button all the time now... It is almost subconscious.

Same here, I just fold mine when needed

Same here. In my 22 i used Lincoln auto folding mode and of course they folded every time i parked the truck, started making noise after 6 months of constant operation. In my 23 i only fold them occasionally (manually, auto fold disabled) when parked on the street. I’m pretty sure this will prolong their lifespan and operation. Live and learn. In all honesty, there’s a lot of things i learned not to do after my 22 experience. Wisdom!

Life is full of ironies.

I am also one who disabled the auto fold feature from the beginning - never did like the look of folded mirrors on the SD - I like them out even if parked plus the fact that the truck can be started countless number of times throughout the day and didn't want the extra and unecessary wear each and every time. They fold in and out without hesitation til this day even if its ever-so-often.

On the other hand, I rarely telescope my mirrors out and when I have tried in the past, they appear to be stuck and only after holding down the button or attempting several do they telescope out.

One can never win seems like.

i telescope them back and forth a few times every other week or so, same time i engage 4wd high for prophylactic reasons.

only after holding down the button
You have to hold down the button, it's not a "one touch" operation. This is so you can position them anywhere in between the full in our full out position if desired...

It certainly is good practice and the same can be said for those with panoramic roof and rear sliding glass.

My 4WD does not lack use that's for sure.

Indeed but what I should have said is that there can be a LONG delay. As in you have to hold down the button and sometimes even holding it down for 10 seconds won't make them telescope out, period.

My passenger side mirror will stick open/closed when it's cold...really cold. No I'm not trading you.
