Heated seats not turning on with remote start

the theory of operation is < 32*F will trigger seat heat
Needs to be below freezing to trigger seat heat?! If true (not doubting your reading of the shop manual, but whether it holds in practice) that seems excessively low. At just above freezing my seat is plenty cold, thank you very much.

That particular test was after I did some prior tests so the seat was already a bit warm. I have since added the ambient air temp PID b/c per the Ford Work Shop manual, the theory of operation is < 32*F will trigger seat heat, and > 80*F the cooling seats should come on (ambient air temp sensor is under the passenger mirror) and is show on the 12" infotainment screen. I've had several FTE members reported their seat heat comes on when the ambient air temp is 40-50*F. I've run tests at -12*F ambient air temp and no seat heat until I PTS. ZooDad and I have looked at your GVM module firmware and config and you are a version ahead of me. HVAC and DSM and SCME modules config and firmware are the same, if I recall accurately. I have a dealer appt for my first oil change on 2/6, so I will ask them if they can update the GVM and see if that fixes it.

But it would be great if you test with FORScan PIDs and report back what your findings are.

GVM = Gateway module (GWM?)

If so, I managed to get everything updated, GWM, APIM and TCM. FDRS reports no more updates available. Heated seat/remote start still no workie.

I'm curious now about temps -- in a truck where this works, the seats come on at a lower temp, then go full blast when you key on. I'm sure there's an ambient temp setting in one of the modules. I can't find that documented anywhere, so Jhforman is asking the right question -- what are the temp settings, and my question -- where the heck are they? Looked through the super duty spreadsheets, and Livinitups for F150 and dont see anything.

Not that this means anything but about 2 weeks ago I talked to Arod (powerstroke tech talk) about this which he’s aware of and he asked me to send him my vin which I did and crickets since

Honestly everything about this truck in cold weather sucks, I have supplemental cab heater (doesn’t do shit) steering wheel gets luke warm at best and obviously the seat issue. Everything about my Cummins trucks in this regard was far better seat, wheel and cab heat quicker

Golly…mine works just fine. The only problem I encounter is to turn down the temp on the seats before it burns my posterior!

Hahaha. I did the same thing. I replied to his video and emailed him

I was hoping to hear something back he honestly seems like the most helpful ford tech I’ve ever heard of lol

Totally agree, and in fact over on FTE I started a similar thread about RS and no seat heat, and ZooDad and I are collecting data, to try and figure this out. Of the 58 that provided data, 41 are reporting no seat heat on RS until key-on or PTS. And to your point, some have reported that they have seat heat on RS when the ambient air temp is in the 40-55*F range, which as you noted, is contrary to what the Ford Work Shop manual states. IDK and I tend to believe the Work Shop manual is not accurate.

Having this same issue on a 7.3 Tremor when remote starting. The steering wheel gets only lukewarm, and the seat heat indicator lights (all 3) are lit up when I turn the key, but the seat heat won't actually turn on until I manually turn the seat off, and then back on.

Thought I would add my .02. I have a 7.3 built last May and is doing the same thing. Took it to the dealer and they said Ford is aware of the issue and is "working" on it. Farley (CEO) even admitted quality has slipped and this is just another example. My truck has been in 6 times so far and counting for various things with 2 of them being "Ford is aware of the problem and working on it".

UGH!!!!!!!

@georgia350plat sorry for the delay in responding, but the ambient air temp PID is pulled from the PCM PIDs. Screen shot of the PIDs I am using to test, PCM.AAT, SCME.SEAT_CSH_TMP_D, SCME.SEAT_BK_TMP_D, SCME.SEAT_CSH_TMP_P and SCME.SEAT_BK_TMP_P.

When setting up the PDS, you need to select "All" modules, then scroll down to the PCM and SCME modules and select the PIDs above.

I have tested this multiple times, well below 32*F (per for Ford Work Shop Manual that below 32*F will trigger seat heat. As mentioned above, I don't believe the Ford WS manual is accurate as some have reported their seats heat well above 32*F). My RS settings are Climate Control=Auto (options are Auto and Last Used) and Seat & Wheel=Auto (options are Auto and Off). Have run multiple tests with settings of Climate Control=Last Used, still same results.

The below screen shot was with ambient air temp of -4*F, well below the 32*F threshold, Climate Control=Auto and Seat & Wheel=Auto, and same result, no seat heat until PTS. I can't explain why the initial seat heat starts at -17*F, well below the -4*F ambient air temp (which I also confirmed the ambient air temp with a infrared thermometer). Would be great if someone here that uses FORScan to run some tests and post up their graphs to confirm readings.

Over on FTE, I have been collecting data and VINs, so if anyone has a MY22 and can confirm seat heat on RS prior to PTS/Key-on we greatly appreciate you providing me your VIN to compare module firmware and configuration. So far I have received 70 VINs and except for a few MY22 VINs, most have reported no seat heat on RS prior to PTS/Key-on. For the few MY22 VINs that have reported seat heat, we have not found a common firmware/configuration as of yet. Obviously a head scratcher.

Feel free to DM me here or on FTE (same user name on FTE) if anyone is willing to share your data and VIN for our tracking sheet.

Well, this is interesting. Just got a call from my dealer and said that Ford wants to take a look at my vehicle tomorrow and if I would be available. I just happen to be so will be heading there for the "meet-n-greet". Assuming it's a person/group from Dearborn but the temperature is supposed to be 45 so not sure if the issue will even be able to be replicated.

Stay tuned and will post an update with the results.

This is interesting. I’m in AZ, and remote start frequently in my “cold” weather. Well above 32 degrees and my seat heaters are on. Steering wheel is very warm, cab is warm, everything works fine. Wonder what’s causing this to work for some, and not work for others

Funny, i have noticed over the last few month that mine does not heat until PTS but I am 100% positive it did work when I took delivery in February of 2022. What changed i dont know, the steering wheel does heat though. 2022 F350 6.7 Plat.

Certainly won't be able to replicate the issue once the truck has been driven there...

Update from post #134.

4 Engineers came out over 2 days and determined the HVAC module is not sending the signal to the seat heater module to turn on so the cliffs notes root cause they told me is a software issue. And because a lot of these components are used across the product line, they said a fix would probably take 2 months to release in the form of a TSB. Whenever I get the call and can find out the TSB number I will post here as well so everyone has it.

Just saw this posted on FTE forum

To all affected with no heated/cooled seats on remote start. Ford just released SSM 51741 to fix the issue. Arod of PTT just released a short describing the fix.

Thanks for the update! I am one that is affected.
