Fuel Pump recalls - 2020-2022 Models


Same here brother, I just ordered a DCR a few minutes ago. My order is locked in before DCR’s go into full on back ordered status. S&S may have just hit the jackpot on Ford’s recall.
I am done thinking about the CP4 and IF I will ever have issues. Never thought there would be a recall however, it made my decision pretty easy to pull the trigger.

$2124.00 out the door from S&S. Scheduled “estimated” delivery this Sunday. 👍🏻

Considering ordering pusher intakes (let the beast breath) while the DCR is getting installed. (natural coating only). A perfect time, to do upgrade while as my man AROD says the heart transplant is happening.

Really good question...I have the DPK sitting on my workbench. Spent $400 on it and got a guy that will install for $500 but I've just been putting it off (was meaning to do it before the Big Bend trip, but life and time got in the way). Now what.

DPK is great insurance, protects everything except the CP4.

Install it. Or wait until after ford does the update. According to a local ford dealer that kit will void any warranty on the fuel system.

That will vary from service department to service department.

I’m all out of warranties anyway - my New Year’s resolution is to get it installed!!
 
If I’m understanding everything, they will update the pump with the RP8 plus update the ECM?

In other words, Ford is still sold on the CP4 pump and keep installing them?

I’d rather just go with the DCR if I’m switching pumps which I’m highly considering.

My VIN does not show this recall per Ford’s website.

My truck has a build date of 9/21

DPK is awesome. I installed it as soon as it was made to cover me until my warranty expires. Once that is up in 5k miles, Im going to sell the DPK as the DCR is going in.

Highly recommend the DPK for all 6.7L owners.

Here is my take, I have the DPK installed. If my cp4 goes out I will then go with DCR. With the DPK no collateral damage to the fuel system. My cp4 may never fail.

The engine went out and the CP4 was not the issue. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the pump or the lifters which are the common failures.

Yes, Ford will still run the Bosch CP4. It’s a silly shell game with a band aid ECM update. Ford made my decision super easy to order the DCR today with this latest recall. It was either the DPK or the DCR. I chose the DCR. If you have a DPK already installed and opt in for the DCR you will need to remove the DPK as you will never need it with the DCR. The DCR is spendy, but cheaper than a CP4 grenading and paying for a new fuel system.

The overall percentage of cp4 failure is extremely low, and the ones that do fail are in large part owner/operator error.

Well we know the CP4 has problems with rust/water, gasoline, or fuel contaminated with DEF. So what can the owners do to help??
1) Make damn sure not to put DEF in your fuel tank.
2) Make damn sure not to put gasoline in your fuel tank.
3) Use the diesel fuel station of your choice with a known good history of fuel quality. (We cannot 100% guarantee nothing will ever happen so take it in stride. )
4) Checking/draining your water/fuel separator as often as you want. (Nothing to argue, just pick your intervals).
5) Replace your fuel filters on regular intervals. (Just pick your intervals and stick with it)
6) Run a fuel additive at regular intervals which I suggest is some cheap insurance. (Given the ratios of use, brands, blah blah, blah ...just pick what you want to do)
7) Stay frosty!!
 
Fucking magic how a software update can remove Biodiesel deposits.
The excuse given is the fuel that sat in the trucks during the Covid/Chip deficiency is the culprit. Hmmmmm.

Ever seen the fuel that's been sitting long term in a in-bed slip tank?? Why would anyone think fuel sitting inside a HPFP for long term can't develop problems?
My questions revolve around what deposits are created by bio-diesel. I'm not a bio-diesel expert as I suspect there's a fuel mixture component that, using simple terms, possibly jells up, solidifies, or is corrosive to a damaging point.
As we all speculate to how it all happened, what we all need to realize is to not let these vehicles sit long term. Long term is going to be relative as well. 1 week?? 3 weeks?? Is that time shortened by B20 use??? Is B5 better long term than B20?? Should we avoid bio-diesel at every possible fill up??

The way we hyperfixate on CP4 disasters, you'd think this happens to members on the daily. When I read these threads I feel like I am waiting to be stuck by lightening. I sure hope nothing happens to my truck, and I am not running anything beyond stock set-up. I am basically doing what @HeavyAssault outlined. Though, I do not run fuel additive often - only during cold snaps. I feel like receiving fuel from high volume places is cheap insurance. It's when you get stupid and use the heavy equipment aux tank that's been sitting for three seasons in the yard. :P

Biodiesel content in the fuel matters because biodiesel increases diesel fuel’s ability to hold water and also increases the chances of the fuel developing microbial problems (because microbes like to feed on it). This is compounded by the fact that today's ultra-low sulfur diesel fuels attract more water to themselves beyond the biodiesel content. So it's a double problem. The process of removing sulfur to meet the ULSD standards removes other compounds that used to naturally help diesel fuel repel water.
