Data and analysis to find the best oil for the 6.7

😬

This report is for Rotella T6 5W40 and was in the truck over the winter until early summer. Changed with 2% left on the dash indicator.

(ignore the miles on unit, they mathed that wrong.)

I put in Super Tech (Walmart) conventional 15w40.

Here’s my most recent:
First two are FoMoCo oils, most recent Triax. Air filter was two years in needing a cleaning (higher silicon reading) also keep in mind I’m a terrible diesel owner my drive currently it’s 10mi roughly to work. I paid a little extra for soot and TBN results. Def think a good bypass filter would help if we’re planning to do long OCI.

Soot levels become important at higher OCI as they’re abrasive and can clog ports.

So in short sounds like the triax does pretty good

And here I was about to order a drum of Amsoil after I move; not recommended
Rotella 5w40 ALL YEAR LONG is ALL you need -54*F pour point. ... As an Amsoil dealer, I use Rotella 5W40. (y);)
i run 5-40 year round also, it gets to -40
Celsius here in Northern BC but the
Truck is always plugged in below -5. Never had issues and I think since it’s plugged in I don’t need the 0-40

Yes, I used it religiously in my 6.0 but I wouldn't run anything 10k+ without a bypass from what I'm seeing. I'll probably keep mine limited to 7500 or Built in oil monitor. Mine was at 0% when I did this change

Damn it showed 0% at 7900 miles. I’ve been using rotella t6 for years since amsoil started getting stupid with prices, now I’m skeptical and may switch to triax

I do a lot of short drives and always traffic sucks, I'm sure that's why the IOLM triggered so early

"Old" 6.0L guys and oil change habits.... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

We definitely ran down the science and possibilities between oil weights and brands.

Reading this and other threads i always come to exact same conclusion that recommended OEM motorcraft oils are as good as any other oils and changing oil more frequently is far more important than wasting money on hyped up and over marketed aftermarket oils that supposedly “do better” because my truck “seems to really like it” notions.

True, but the little bit more pricey oils tend to have a better detergent package and moly content than oem oils granted if you’re changing more frequently then it probably doesn’t matter, just as an example if you ran motorcraft 7500 miles or less or able to run say triax or whatever brand 10k miles I’d rather do 10k intervals. Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t waste the money on the cost of schaffers, amsoil or hotshots secret or alike just seems way to over priced in my eyes

I changed the first at 1K, and religiously change it every 5K or every 1/2 a year what ever comes first. And i do it myself now so save a little that way. So yeah, i really think it doesn't matter even if i was putting in the cheapest oil from Walmart, by the time it goes bad or lose its properties i would have it out of the engine.

Just depends on how you use the truck. NOAK ratings are huge for me and not all of the oils mentioned here on this thread do that well. http://www.pqiamerica.com/Testdescriptions/Noack.html

I always love the "truck seems to really like it quotes"! Asked mine many times if it liked the oil---never get a response.
I guess your not much for a feeling are ya! Maybe she doesn’t like your tone! 🤣 if you need specifics don’t be afraid to ask. Knowledge is 👑

You do you! I’m sure you have and will continue to “waste” money on ever more stupider shit! Just take inventory on yourself. I’m sure you will find plenty!

For all those who follow such things:

Tractor Supply has the 2.5 gallon T6 5w40 on sale for like $65 ea.

I put in Super Tech (Walmart) conventional 15w40.

Results from that oil change. I put on about 1,000 miles hauling heavy and many miles slow off road.

Based on this, I'd totally run Walmart's Supertech conventional 15w40 again in the summer to save money.

I put in Rotella T6 0w40 for this winter since I plan to do some arctic travel and will likely find -40F weather.
