Colorado Trails and Camping Trip

I know that damned rock as well.

Another point regarding Poughkeepsie is that unless it changed last year or this year, there is a bypass that will take you around "the wall" which is the toughest obstacle on the trail. It is also a two-way trail, so you can back out if you like.

It's also not a bad way to spend a few hours to ride up to the wall with a cooler of beer and hang out and watch different people work the obstacle in different ways. There are several lines people will try. Some will winch it, some will stack rocks. Kind of fun if you like to meet people and check out other peoples rigs.

Oh yea, I don't take it personally, I think it's hilarious that it ruffles their feathers. "Frogskin" that's one I've never heard before haha. We rarely see a big bull in our unit so odds you're not going to lose any by our hands haha. I am not sure how much longer we will continue to hunt CO, like everything else there, it's getting overcrowded and overpriced. They just dropped NR OTC Elk Archery tags and I bet it's not much longer before they do the same for rifle as well. We are already talking about making a switch to New Mexico or Wyoming as soon as next year.
You have at least five years before that happens with rifle tags. It wont happen until CPW does its next 5 year plan in 2029. The politics between the resident hunters and the CPW commissioners (appointed by our not hunter friendly governor) is wild. The commission explicitly stated that they didn't see overcrowding as a problem during rifle hunting (something that I think every hunter whether resident or non-resident would disagree with) when they revealed that they would be removing NR OTC archery tags next year. Per them they say that there has been a DECREASE in OTC rifle hunt tags given out over the last 20 years. They tried to say the same thing with archery and a group went ahead and collected the data showing that NR OTC hunters outnumbered the resident OTC archery tags, proving the commission lied. I am all for non resident hunters brining revenue to our state but with the introduction of wolves and the fact that the mountain lion, bobcat and lynx hunting ban has received enough signatures to make the November ballot (where the idiots in Denver and Boulder will surely pass it) our herd populations will eventually not be able to sustain the increased predator pressure or the unlimited OTC tags the state was giving out for archery and rifle. Something is going to have to give and the governors anti hunter rabid husband has bent his ear plenty about making sure hunting opportunities don't expand here.

looks like I'm going to be taking a pre-alaska warmup trip to the San Juan's

looking like aug 11 for a week or so.

anybody else going to be playing out there that week?

Just because you can. Doesn’t mean you should. Says the guy who sees something like that and has the “hold my beer” mentality. Send it!
I agree to a point.
but!!!!!!

if all you ever do is only what you should, life would be pretty mundane!!!!!!!!!

just gives me a tie-off point any where I need one.

the rigid box is chained in too. around the footers.

then the slack chain on the tailgate end, if i need to lock something secure & didn't want to cut the chain in case I ever needed it.

4 more chains in the tool box, but you never know what you might need.

left home 4am
silverton 5pm
14hrs trip time (4 stops)
900miles

tent camp the rest of the week

they missed the balance

had to go to montrose to get them rebalanced

I’ve been forced to come off trail a couple times and head to Rockworx for some small adjustments. Part of it!

Looking forward to hearing about your adventures from here on!

Yea, I honestly don't see the appeal. It's overrun with the left coast flight, moderate Texan transplants and it's losing it's mind politically. Beautiful state to visit, just like California, but I have no desire to ever live there.
Not sure where you're going, but where we're at in the Rockies, it's like TX without hellish weather. Also little to no bugs, perfect seasonal weather (62 right now), bigger deer, clean creeks & streams everywhere, and mountains.

Sure, if you go to the tourist towns you're probably going to see lots of libs so just don't go there. Small town Rocky Mountain towns are awesome.

Sure, the rural areas are more conservative and that's evident by the Trump flags and anti Dem literature hung on the front of properties, I see it every time I am out there. But that's true for a lot of states and sadly the mostly good folks in the smaller communities and in the country-side don't account for or override the masses in the metro areas which dictate state and local government representation and policies. We aren't far behind Colorado here in Texas, I give us one more major election cycle before the tide turns.

And this is the beauty of being in a swing state! Hookers don't care what party you affilate with as long you can party 🤪

libs don't bother you when you're on the mountain passes, except to ask "what are you doing up here on our jeep trails in that" (F250 Tremor)

it's pretty funny if you let it be!!!!

had a great week on the mine roads & moutain passes.

mineral creek is really serious this year, so was Imogene. black bear closed the day I got there (mud slide) supposedly????

explored a lot of the lesser traveled Gulch roads. got myself in a pickle often. unmaintained deadends quite a bit. fun backing out of those situations!!!!!

got the right rear tire in the air twice. 1st was going over a rock outcrop in a tight switchback. the other was cheating over to let someone coming up the trail get by. told my buddy riding with me that was just about to $hit his pants. told him, relax truck just needed to pee😂🤣😂🤣

got home Monday night late. another buddy needed me to haul a load of lumber for him asap. finish that & home Tuesday 2pm. slept the rest of the day & night until this morning.

signal got so bad I could barely connect, & couldn't upload pics. so I have several pics if anyone wants to see more.

also decided to leave this Friday morning on my Alaska trip. so, no rest for the weary. 🤣😂🤣
