@TellurideTremor am in the right place??

We're in the middle of an awesome trip through the San Juan mountains. Much more of an update to follow when we have faster cell service. Cheers.

My standard answer is NO, Telluride is terrible. Go to Breckenridge instead.

But on here. I’ll say you’re close to the right place.

Head on into town from there. From Colorado Ave turn left on Aspen. Right on Columbia and then left on Oak.

Proceed all the way up and then hit Imogene Pass!

Everyone I know the lives in Telluride says the same thing. It’s ok there but go somewhere else. They don’t want tourists
Cheers 🍻

@TellurideTremor I’m in Breckenridge currently. What trails do you recommend near here? And is it comfortable enough for the whole family to ride along?

I've done Black Bear on bikes and in multiple 4x4's over the years, did it in a Power Wagon on 37's a few years back, full size trucks can get it done. Hit all of the Alpine Loop, you're right there and it's totally worth it. We are heading up tomorrow, we will be on Enduros running the CO BDR and then looping back south to Dolores/Cortez once we hit the Wyoming border.

Howdy Ag,

Are you in your Super Duty?

There is a trail directly out of Breck that starts behind the stables called "Peak 10" that winds across the ski area and then climbs to an old weather station on Peak 10.

Also near Breck is one called "Gold Run Road". It is a gravel road for the most part, and passes by the Jessie mine for some interest.

About 15 minutes away near Keystone you can head towards Montezuma on Montezuma Rd. A mile or two prior to hitting Montezuma, there will be a parking area on your left. The main trail there will take you to the Pennsylvania Mine. It is about 4.6 miles from the pavement.

If you head on into (and through) Montezuma, that opens a lot of options, but a lot of those options are NOT Super Duty friendly.

14 point turns in the PW? Somebody has to be the legend. haha

I've done it multiple times in my LR4, but she's got a shorter wheelbase than a 4 door Wrangler, and a tighter turning circle, so easy peasy.

LOL, not too far off from that, especially on those upper switchbacks. The PW had a much better turning radius than this Tremor, that much I remember. We've made an annual trip to do the Loop for years, last summer kinda sucked with Imogene not being open on the Telluride side when we were there and of course Black Bear never even opened at all, my father was super bummed about that.

The attitude of the locals last year was appalling, especially when directed towards Texans. I had to remind one rather rude fella at the gas station in Ouray that we can gladly take our revenue and go elsewhere but they'd have to kiss half of their seasonal revenues goodbye with Texans alone.
I get it, tourists in town non-stop, clogging up traffic, stores, restaurants, resources, etc. but if it weren't for those tourists coming to ski in the winter or play in the mountains and streams in the summer there'd be very little revenue in that corner of Colorado and for the majority of the state for that matter. He wasn't too pleased when I reminded him that half of the state used to belong to us Texans haha. I do believe I'll be taking a break from summer Colorado trips after this summer outside of our annual Elk hunt in the fall.

I have told someone up there “give it a couple more years and we’ll own the other half of this state too.”

In truth, I feel for them. CO is damn near overrun with people now

Yea, I honestly don't see the appeal. It's overrun with the left coast flight, moderate Texan transplants and it's losing it's mind politically. Beautiful state to visit, just like California, but I have no desire to ever live there.

Apologies from a native Coloradan here. Folks get their panties in a wad with all tourists down that way, but especially with TX.

The probability of that guy being an OG local in that part of the state is minimal, as it’s such a transient area. He’s probably not only an asshole but a hypocrite too. We see all kinds here and the Texans are usually pretty friendly, god fearing and outdoorsy. Plenty of dickheads all over this state, don’t take it personally.

I spend a lot of time in WY and they hate the Coloradans. I fish, camp and hunt in WY and push a lot of money in that state, only to be called a “greenie” or a “frog skin” and asked why I’m up there…so I get it. In the end, we’re all Americans and stronger together.

Now elk hunting is a different story, you leave those big bulls for me…you should go chase prairie goats out east ;)

Cheers!

Oh yea, I don't take it personally, I think it's hilarious that it ruffles their feathers. "Frogskin" that's one I've never heard before haha. We rarely see a big bull in our unit so odds you're not going to lose any by our hands haha. I am not sure how much longer we will continue to hunt CO, like everything else there, it's getting overcrowded and overpriced. They just dropped NR OTC Elk Archery tags and I bet it's not much longer before they do the same for rifle as well. We are already talking about making a switch to New Mexico or Wyoming as soon as next year.

People are just unhinged these days, it’s sad and a microcosm into a bigger issue.

Didn’t realize that about NR tags, interesting. NM has monster elk and have some buddies down that way that have harvested some huge elk. It’s such a haul for me that I stick with NW CO and WY.

The public units have gotten so bad and the DOW here couldn’t manage their way out of a wet paper bag. Good luck with whichever way you go and crazy to think archery will be starting in in less that 6 weeks.

That’s a deal, you take NM and leave em up here for me. lol
