Black appearance package huh?

Great summary, thanks for all the info!

The big difference I missed was the LED lights. I thought you just got black trim for the lights IF you were paying a separate upgrade for LED.

I do like the idea of factory blacked out headlights…

I’m going to struggle with this option. I plan to replace the bumpers with aftermarket…

So It ends up being 2k for smoked headlights, black grill and black emblems.

I could easily black out anything but the headlights. I won’t mess around with that. Just gotta decide if that’s worth 2k to me ?
Don't forget the bed liner which is $500-600.

Thanks, I deducted for that one already.

One of the dealers I was talking to reccomended against getting the “Ford” spray in liner.
He claimed they use a 3rd party and it causes a delivery delay and the quality of very inconsistent.

thoughts on that?

This is basically true, although we don't know for sure that the liner causes a meaningful delay and the quality isn't that bad. And if you want the black package you can't opt-out of the liner. More info here:

All dealers have a third party. If you order your truck and it comes from the factory so should your spray in.

The factory spray in is NOT done at the factory. I personally didn't really want the factory liner, I was going to go with LineX Premium. But, it's part of the Black Appearance Package that I selected.

Believe what you want. One way to tell. Factory spray liners will not be sprayed behind cleat inserts. Most 3rd party will just spray the whole bed.
Not even remotely true. My last 2 trucks ('13 F150/'18 F150) both had LineX Premium spray ins and they took EVERY bolt and cleats out before spraying. YOU, can believe what you want, but, you can do a LITTLE research and find out that they are NOT sprayed at the plant.

I don’t believe you are missing much. Reasons you have listed above are why I went with the chrome package. I switched out my bumpers. As always, still work to be done!?
Agreed, swapped my front bumper anyways for a winch ready ranch hand sport. I did not think it was worth the price for some random trim pieces and a bumper that I would change anyways. Its an appearance packages that is going to be worth it for one person, but not the next.

Sure thing buddy

The Ford liner is not installed by Ford. It is installed by Ground Effects, Ltd. (GFX) in Louisville. This is why it adds at least a few days to the production time of a vehicle.

Here is a video of how your liner was installed by GFX:

The apparent differences between the Ford/GFX liner and LineX/Bullet are thickness and bed prep. They are obviously also a different chemical compound, which may or may not be equal. The Ford/GFX liner is 50 mils. The LineX is 125+ mils. The Ford/GFX liner is sprayed without any bed prep. LineX/Bullet dealers are instructed to clean and sand the bed before spraying. This is why it's comparatively easier to remove the Ford/GFX liner.

Exactly coming from the factory has to pass final inspection ?

GFX uses a bonding agent to promote adhesion, which is fine. Many industries use bonding agents in more critical applications with no mechanical prep.

If your truck comes with a factory liner, no need to remove it. That tools in action video online showing how easy it is to remove isn't a real-world scenario starting at an edge with a chisel lol.

Use it, enjoy it, and if it fails after the warranty is over, then you could consider an aftermarket spray-in.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned the side view mirrors are also capped in black vs. chrome. I'm keeping my bumpers so the black appearance package was worth it to me. I love it. I have chrome on my Jeep CJ and chrome wheels on my old Mustang so I wanted a different look. It's the reason I didn't get a platinum. Just a personal preference thing. I love both looks.

Black appearance package also blacks out the roof clearance lights if they’re on the order FWIW, though doesn’t include them so no real impact to pricing either way.
Not true. My black package with the roof light option came with clear lens. Looked stupid. The whole rest of the accessories were black. Put on the Recon blacked out light and it looks great now IMG_20201229_194402015.webp
