Banks Ram Air CAI

Do these void the warranty?
Sorry, that's the $1 million dollar question which can only be answered when facing a dealer with a motor problem. Without any issues or past experiences anyone's answer is to be taken at face value.

Given that : Pusher Piping kit is CARB legal. I'd have to double check the S&B intake I'm using, at this time it doesn't say CARB legal. The S&B closed box is CARB legal. So I would venture to say it's going to be hard to decline the warranty when using CARB legal systems. In my case the issue would need to be directly related to the air filter intake.

If I were to choose the S&B closed box style I'd run the lid on, side plug off, and no extra foam filter. If you really look over the flow path to the air intake it's pretty sad. Very little direct flow requiring more pull from the turbo versus a open air style.

Biggest thing for me was the CAC controlling the air temp to the intake manifold. It makes ZERO sense to think there's any real world CAI system for the 6.7L, it's just not possible to avoid the secondary coolant system from "heating" the CAC airflow.
Not to mention when it's 100*F+ outside, what's making the air "cooler" going into the filter.....nothing. So whatever performance arguments anyone wants to make is ignorant about the real world conditions.

As an different but my most recent example : I was out to buy a new lawnmower. At the big name direct dealer in my are looking at a Toro, I mentioned to the "salesman" I noticed there was a hose connection to wash the under deck area. He starts into some smart-a$$ comments about engineers, design...blah blah blah..."You know water and metal don't work and it's going to cause you more problems down the road." Not missing a beat....me: "Really ....cause grass has water inside it, cause it needs water to grow, hence there's plenty of water getting around the under deck area. Right??". He shut up, ended his contact with me, "needed to answer the phone."

So ....just think it through. Run what you want. Mines been just fine, no "performance" losses anywhere.

I wouldn’t think CARB certified would be an issue either way with ford. Did the aftermarket part fail or cause a failure down the line, that’s what they are looking at. As part of my job, I manage a fleet of police cars (fords). I’ve seen ford deny warranty claims for a host of issues. I find that once you call them and explain things they often go ahead with the warranty claim. I had the deny an engine failure under warranty due to running amsoil and not motocraft. I debated this out and they paid for a new engine.

So can you measure the entrance on both systems?? Seems to me the Banks system is just as small (as S&B uses a reducer) at the point where the filter is attached.
I will say once a user goes on GLP-1s you can remove the reducer from the S&B kit.

The past is the past. Which one has contracts right now??

If I were to develop a 6.7L filter system I'd baes it off the old 6.0L filter with the blue media from Donaldson. That filter/media couldn't be beat.
You definitely cant beat Donaldson.. I talked with S&S about filtration for a special project and it was fascinating how many are running CAT filters and if I recall correctly the tests weren't great for CAT. I'll add I love CAT, and have a few pieces I run fairly often.

Banks is still building the motors for all the JLTV with GM. I think they pass a 400hr full run time NATO test and can start at -40*F with no block heater.

Im not a diesel tech and I dont pretend to be one. I am curious why did you opted for an open element? Both Banks and S&B suggest otherwise.

Thanks in advance.

Well,....I sort of knew from my 2015 the CAC controlled the intake temps at the manifold. I have ran the Edge CTS3 for a long time, works very good, gives me the data points (as best they are). With that prior info I choose the open element. Now here's the icing on the cake for me. I started taking the 2022 stuff apart. I was appalled at the shear amount of dust/dirt/debris inside the OEM air box. You would have thought there'd be some dust, but not what I found. Like dumping out your shoes from the beach....not a ton but damn. I started looking at the flow path Ford wanted. They have some small scoop to force air into the under hood area, they use a gasket to seal off the bay but channel the air to the OEM air box. It's okay, it's not pulling in air like I would want. Now when you are driving the engine bay is flushed with outside air. Well....why have the element boxed up when I can have it suck all the air it wants, have good filtration, and easier to change air filters?? Just recently I changed the air filter element to check the tubing for any signs of dust....nothing in the tuning when I check it. I could go on a bit more but that's the short version. 😜 😜

Not to mention :
S&B uses a reducer...yep....keeps the MAF happy....for the future "plans", that reducer can come out (😜😜).

I have the Banks Ram Air with the SPE piping kit and SPE new billet intercooler on my 22 SCAB. I run Banks oiled filter and pre-filter and it works great, no complaints.

I swap out the oiled filter and pre-filter every 3k miles when I change the oil.

Here's the Banks video that showed me some serious differences.....all about marketing. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Then you can watch the funniest one :

I can break them down pretty easy. I'm not here to bash what anyone else uses, just to point out my decision making process.
I think the most interesting part of Banks is....WHY can't they engineer a MAF module for the Ford trucks?? They got one for GMC/Chevy.:unsure::unsure: Either they DON'T know how...or just don't want to spend the money. BTW....the spoiler is in the videos above.
So...enjoy the videos. They show you all you need to know. Just find the Easter eggs.....then sit back and think about it.

@Stormtrooper : Did you fab up the Switch Pros mount on the driver's side?? Clean setup all-in-all with that engine bay! 🍻 🍻

Thanks @HeavyAssault

Under the hood it’s mounted on the drivers side with a custom battery terminal hold-down plate that CJC Offroad makes.

In the cab I used the Swarfworks mount that replaces the sunglasses holder, super clean setup.

The SP9100 system mount on top of the drivers battery was the item I was referencing.

Was that a one off make??? I didn't see it on their site.
I think mine may have been one of the first ones they fabricated. Ya I don’t see it on their site. Give CJC a call and ask for Austin, he’ll be able to get you one. Not sure exactly how much they charge for it.

I bet that sound great. Did the pusher give you some better throttle response?
Sounds beautiful. I do have better throttle repsonse. But, when I did the intake and piping, I also did the No Limit Intercooler. All together, a very good package. I added the Roush exhaust later and sound is perfect to me now. No drone and sounds like a diesel!

That billet intercooler is SEXY. The reoute certainly helps to clean up that whole area.
Your photo reminds me I need to get my crappy (twice warrantied in 26k miles) OEM batteries out for some nice Odyssey's.. Oh it never ends.

I have the Banks CAI on my 6.7 HO, also using their 5" DPF Back Exhaust. No complaints, love the look and sound change over stock.

Most definitely, SPE’s coolant reroute kit definitely cleans up the engine bay and their billet intercooler is on another level and truly a work of art.

Ya that’s the first thing I swap out on all my vehicles is the OEM batteries to the Odyssey’s.
