AVS Bug Shield

The install is a bit nerve wrecking because you only get one chance at the adhesion; something doesn’t line up right on either side when the adhesive strip is on and you’re done… So it took me a good hour to carefully measure ten times and adhere once type thing, but other than that one step everything else is pretty straightforward. In a few days i’ll tap into the headlights so that i can program the left and right turn signals on the light bar. Overall I’m extremely pleased with how it looks. I’m now going to turn off the raptor lights below completely. With both the light bar and raptor lights it’s one too many for my liking.

There's our little buddy again! Keeping Amber clean all the time.

You would have to download the CapitalOne app and use it, that’s how i get those rebate offers by mail and coupons are automatic when you use the app, it just runs through all available coupons and picks an active one/best one available at the time. I lucked out at the time i ordered that all 3 ways to save aligned. But it’s possible they would run similar promotions again.
Good-to-go. Thank you for sharing!

Have you had a chance to connect the signals and test them? I'm curious if tapping into the signal wires might affect the CAN bus system or trigger BCM errors. The Lightshield looks awesome on your Tremor! I'm definitely considering ordering one soon. Thanks for sharing your install details!

Yes, just finished them both yesterday. I used this harness. Without it, you would have to splice into the wires and to do that, to get to the oem harness would mean taking apart the headlamp assembly. The plug and play route is taking off two bolts that hold the wheel well liners plugging in the harness and routing the signals -done. No issues at all, no errors.

Nice work! Sounds like the plug-and-play harness made the install a breeze—no splicing or tearing into the headlamp assembly (y)

I even used the same signal tap for something else, tested the concept and will soon be connecting the backlight pods to the same turn signals.

I wouldn’t mind tapping into the oem harness the old fashioned way the way the instructions called for, but it is really awkward to get to on a 6.7 without taking off the grill and then the headlight assembly. Take into account the time and effort and the harness suddenly made sense:-)

Hmmmmm just thought I had my mind made up to go with Ford OEM Aeroskin to replace broken factory hood deflector but now you’ve shown there are light ones for 2022s… also like the plug and play using limitlessautos modules…. Decision decisions, I do have cab lights from factory. No grill lights or light bars yet up front…

🤔

Also, I am reading some reviews on this specific shield that there are reports of it causing the hood to shake

I can confirm that the hood near the windshield does shake and it is 100% percent related to this bug shield design and not because the hood is “aluminum”. Mine started shaking a week ago after i installed the bug shield, it never happened prior to that.

I’m genuinely curious now why the hood shakes, and i wish i could find those reviews myself to confirm what others have said. I’m thinking it has something to do with aerodynamics and how the air either traps or hits this shield.

Ok, folks. Unfortunately, these amazon reviews are right on and absolutely true.

I took this bug shield out for a true test drive over the weekend, multiple 75-80mph runs over 300 miles.

I was puzzled why my hood is shaking and my mirrors seem like they are hit with some serious burst of wind, also sort of shaking/vibrating. Something I definitely have not experienced over the last two years in this very truck. So why now, all of the sudden?

I couldn’t let it go, it just didn’t seem right. But i also did not want to think it had anything to do with this new bug shield i installed.

Knowing what i know now, i recommend you steer clear of this bug shield. Do not buy it and do not install it!

I often find on this forum that folks will not warn you when they spent their money on something and it’s aint good. It’s always praising something and quietly fading. I wish there was more honest feedback when something aint worth the trouble it brings.

Thanks for posting this and alerting folks. And damnit, you are right on. I’ve said the same thing, people on the forum buy things, and post about how great they are…but many times there are negative results that are not shared. You’re doing it right!

@Alpoba
Thank you for sharing details and testing the issue. It’s likely due to altered airflow: bug deflectors redirect air over the hood, creating turbulence or increased pressure underneath, which can cause vibrations, especially at higher speeds as air pushes against the hood or creates lift ...
I was about to order one tonight, but now I’m considering a lower-profile bug shield instead.

Thanks. I am disappointed that i’ve spent money on it and will have to take it off now even though i really like how it looks and the functionality it added with the light bar. But i simply won’t accept the hood and mirrors shaking, it drove me nuts today.

Sad to see it go as it complements everything else.

Will you be reimbursing your little helper for labor costs?

Thanks for confirming this. Some of these reviews online are what had me concerned and steered me a different direction. I ended up going with money saved could to Raptor grill lights/quad fogs/pillar pod spotlights.

The honest feedback and advice on here is what makes it a great place to have my money spent lol

I ALMOST went this route but the reviews weren't great. Went with the roof instead. No issues
