7.3L Exhaust Choices

Context is everything.

I have said elsewhere in other Borla threads here, that "if" I were to ever want this system quieter for towing heavy, I have an option. Simple as that.

"If".

That may happen as the system's existing forward small resonator and it's large, main free-flow muffler have some of the sound packing eroded away with time and heat. Hey, it happens but it takes awhile.

Again, if. And, if so, then I have a solution. Currently, the system as it is designed and sold from Borla, is perfect as you have alluded to.

Cheers!
Sounds iffy 🤪.

A few posts ago I went on and on about my crazy ass inability to figure which exhaust I want. You got me leaning Borla then start going quieter and “ifs” and context. Lol.

Shit man.

I’m in to fragile of a state for this… haha I gotta go listen to Xrockets intoxicating Whipple and headers as I breathe into the paper bag that used to hold the Colt 45 malt liquor you caused me to have to go drink to calm down after this 😉

Borla S and call it a day. I played around with my Chevy ZR2 and ended up pulling that crap off and going with the Corsa. This time around, I'm just going with the Borla s and be done!
For all the folks who (rightly) ran Corsa on their GM trucks, Borla is definitely the Ford equivalent. Both are refined muscular sound improvements. If you are looking for the best cat back exhaust upgrade for the Super Duty and the cost is not a factor (get what you pay for) then get the Borla S-Type. Everyday I start my truck, I am pleased with this mod.

^ ^ ^ what wessermgn said. 🏁

Hahaha... ok. Everything's gonna be great.

How much heavier towing do you do? Many hills involved? Not much over 10,000 lbs and relatively flat? Borla S-Type forever.

If climbing the Rockies using a 7.3 Godzilla Super Duty and you're deeper than half throttle at 3500 RPM in 7th while hauling 16,000 lbs or more, you're going to hear it. But it's a noise that puts a smile on your face.

It would be for those scenarios that another 20" of resonator in the mid-pipe would be about perfect. Otherwise, the system as it comes out of the box is nearly perfect. Our all-terrain tires make more noise than the exhaust.

Cheers!

What Apples said. When you want to hear it, you do. I started this thread because I wanted a deep dive on this issue. After going through it, the obvious product was Borla S. There are good options cheaper (like MBRP) but Borla is the pinnacle. If you are willing to swing it, you get every penny back IMO.

I went with Magnaflow. I’m very pleased with it. Ive been running this setup over a year now and tow my toy hauler at least once a month. I had all resonators deleted with 3in pipe to a 6in exhaust tip.

I live in IL so my terrain is a joke to yours lol.

I don’t mind hear exhaust just right tone/and sound. Not drone. I don’t tow heavy currently. So not worried there. Would like to talk to wife and kids in truck (although some days if exhausted drowned out the noise… lol). But we are planning a Rushmore trip and wanna take truck and do some trials in badlands and such. So I like noise and sound I don’t want to pay 1500 and not have good sound. But I don’t want obnoxious.

I am someone who feels a gt500 and truck shouldn’t sound the same. Sports cars/muscles cars have a sound they should have. Trucks have a nice deep throaty sound they should have. (diesels being a different deep and turbo whistle combo).

Had the Borla S Type on my old 5.0 F150 and until I got my 98 Mustang was the best sounding exhaust Ive ever owned. Zero drone and nearly silent at highway speeds but would really growl when you got on the skinny pedal. I'm keeping the stock exhaust on the 7.3 due to the aforementioned Mustang which has enough growl if I want to hear the exhaust.

Because I can't leave well enough alone...

You should try the borla whipple whammy combo!

You suck!

:ROFLMAO:

But, seriously. I believe you! (y) :)

Unfortunately, that combo ain't in the cards of this pertikulr hand I hold right now.

I do, however, have in stock a valuable transmission valve body to install as a proactive move to fortify that 'box for some increases in performance* down the road but those mods will more than likely be in the realm of natural aspiration.

There's more than one way to 600 HP! 😝 😬 🏁

*vb was purchased mainly as a driveability improvement as well as insurance against the problems created by valvebody circuitry internal cross leakage and for it's better general function.

Got my Borla S Type installed in the driveway yesterday and it's as good as I expected. Nice bark when starting cold but nearly silent when cruising. I'm expecting it will get even better as I get more miles on the truck and am very excited to see how it sounds when towing. Install was very easy as I cut the old exhaust at the axle and removed the hangers as was suggested in a MBRP install video.

That sounds amazing.
Definitely leaning the Borla route when that time comes.
Now that it has been a couple months, how are you liking it while towing and highway cruising?

Are you all buying from Borla direct?

Still love it. It's a bit louder than when I first got it as expected but I am still very happy with my choice. Zero drone even when towing the camper. If you're after the gentleman's aftermarket exhaust then Borla is the only one to get.

I was 99% set on the borla S type but the afe rebel setup made me do a double take. Reminded me of my gen2 lightning exhaust layout.

Is the rebel louder than the atak? Cold and wot?

If you don’t want drone…stick with the Borla. Best exhaust for our trucks IMPO.
