I learned early on that whatever her weapon of choice (broom, spoon, yardstick, flyswatter, etc) that Mom couldn't really bring the pain. However, it was absolutely in my best interest to feign absolute incapacitating agony because if she didn't believe it hurt, she would download the job to Dad when he got home from work, and that man could swing a paddle.

Damn I miss my parents. If yours are still here call them up and tell them that you love them because once they are gone life is never the same.

Lost my dad in January. This is well said.
