2024 MY Super Duty Order/Schedule/Build Thread

I ordered 7/21/2023. When I first received my "Schedule Week" from Ford, it was the week of 10/09/23. Way earlier than I anticipated. On 10/08, they changed the Scheduled Week to the week of 10/30. Then a few days later, the Kentucky plant was added to the assembly pants on strike so now I know that date won't hold. Luckily, I planned ahead and my deadline for needing the truck isn't until March 2024. Very likely things will get going again soon so confident it will be delivered, and give me time for break-in miles, before March 2024. I just hope there is no impact to quality (which has already been a bit questionable lately with a few SuperDuty components), but I have a deadline for needing this truck so I can't wait until later in 2024.

We usually buy all our vehicles used and are patient on finding two or three year old vehicles in great shape with low miles. We also drive our used vehicles for around 10 years before replacing with newer used ones. This truck I plan to keep for longer so buying new to get exactly the truck I want.

I talked to Granger Ford and considered buying there at 2% below invoice, but local dealership accepts Ford X Plan (veteran) on SuperDuty now (they did not last year due to lack of inventory) so the purchase-price spread wasn't enough to justify a fly/buy/drive in this case. If Granger wasn't 1,000+ miles away and nearly 16hr drive, it may have been worth it as there is still a bit of a discount even after airline tickets, hotel, gas. But then there is time (burning vacation time, missed opportunity doing things that are more fun that driving 16 hours, plus, droning down the interstate for 1,000+ miles isn't my preferred break-in method.

Just went to my dealer to see if the lights could be swapped in Lariat order from reflector to projection. Parts guys said they can’t ford won’t allow it. Can’t modify the order since it has VIN already.

Wanted to get thoughts from folks. I'm also debating just do a new order and upgrade to platinum.

Thoughts?

**Sales guy just called me they are already passed their quota.

I dont have a 23 on order, but projectors only come on platinum according to the order guide! if you can get a set of projectors youll need a harness similar to what the F150 guys use probably. Id hit up Ryan, he can probably make one for you.

I placed my order with Mossy Ford of Pacific Beach here in San Diego CA. I put down a $500 deposit. I put together my build on the Ford website, printed it and took it to the dealer. Here it is below:

I got pushed back to 10/30…. Originally 10/16, then 10/23… and so on. XLT, 7.3 Tremor.

My guess is all orders get pushed as each week hits until things are resolved. My date still says 11/13 but I know that isn't accurate now

Same happened to me today. Same basic configuration.
I never got an email but just checked a tracker and saw that I got pushed to 10/30 as well!

I think we all need to stop thinking our trucks will just get pushed back week by week and that Kentucky Plant can be start back up like a switch.

This strike is wrecking a delicate supply chain which may take years to fix.

Consider a specialty leather supplier that makes the leather trim for KR, Platinum and Limited. They have spent years hiring and training the best leather craftsmen around. Along with doing deals to get a constant supply of high grade leather to keep them going.

With this Fain strike, they can’t keep running. Without Ford KTP buying their seats, they have to layoff all those skilled craftsman 2-1/2 month before Christmas. And they have to tell their leather supplier they spent years finding that they won’t need their leather anymore.

Those skilled workers aren’t going to sit around at home starving. They will find other jobs. Maybe this time at plants that don’t use UAW since there’s a lesson learned about how stable a job is at a supplier to a UAW plant.

The supplier to the raw leather will also have to quickly find other buyers for their leather and sign up long term contracts.

So now, 6 weeks from now, Fain finally figures ot out, or gets voted out and they stop striking KTP.
First of all, it takes a while to get a plant going again. But even when it is going, they try calling the luxury leather supplier and he’s like, sorry, my workers found other jobs. Will take me another year to find good people again.
Repeat for tons of other supplier components that make our trucks.

This strike is not a temporary thing. It’s a huge long term wrecking ball in a very delicate supply chain.

OEM’s have conditions for supplier solvency. They would not select suppliers that would close up shop that quickly or, if they accepted it as a risk, they will have deals to keep the supplier afloat while they resolve their issue. You’re right that it is not the flip of a switch but this won’t collapse their supplier base if it is resolved in a reasonable amount of time.

I wouldn’t jump to a falling sky take on this situation. I have however given up on thinking I’m getting my truck any sooner than spring now, but I’m not in a situation where I HAVE to have my truck ASAP - I WANT my truck ASAP, but yeah. It’s completely out of my control so it’s best that I change my mindset the best I can and focus on something else.

It's the focusing on something else I am having a problem with. If I had to wait untill spring it would be much better for me financially but as you can see I am on the forums dreaming of my f350 Tremor! My old 6.0 liter has alot of life left, but after work I sure wish I had some heated seats.

You have a very point but like everything about this situation it is much more complex. That same leather supplier can continue crafting as long as Ford is buying. Ford should still be buying because they know they will need the supplies. They were running behind when the trike hit anyway so now they can catch up a bit. There is buffer in the supply chain. You're right it's delicate but it's in irreversible just yet. It all depends on how long it goes on. If Fain really does stick to his mental condition then Ford should take to opportunity to break the union or at least put them on notice that they will be hiring permanent replacements. For every permanent replacement there will be one less union job until they come back. Either way. I think if they get it resolved in the next couple weeks or so the supply chain will be fine. After that then you scenario is certainly what will begin to happen.

Believe me, I’m trying not to talk out of both sides of my mouth. I’m so back and forth - I could “settle” for a nicely equipped ’23 Lariat right now, but I don’t want a pano roof and I want the factory tuff bed, etc. I’d eventually regret not waiting for the Platinum I optioned out exactly how I wanted it - and like you, financially I’ll be way better off waiting it out and saving up.

Are 'order code' and 'order ID' the same things?
I do not see an order ID but rather an 'order code' on my build sheet

The order ID is emailed to you from Ford; mine isn't on my build sheet either. I got the email from Ford later in the day once sales person entered it.
