I'd like to delete the tailgate step as well. That plastic has been replaced once already.
I also wouldn't be against deleting the step.
Plastic cover is perfectly positioned to be ripped off as things slide over the edge of the tailgate (or heck, I've even caught my shoe on it).
Meanwhile, I almost never deploy the tailgate step because the corner step is generally faster, easier and better positioned.
(For context, I'm referring to the Amp Research deployable corner step on my 22MY. Not the one built into the bumpers of the 23MY+ trucks.)

100% agree. I hardly ever use the tailgate step. The corner step is much quicker and easier to deploy. THe only time I use the tailgate step is if I don't have the topper installed and I am getting in and out of the bed several times.
It's trash and poor engineering. Hoping someone comes out with a bullet aluminum unit.

I'd like a metal replacement for just the tailgate top itself, I don't have the fancy step but the tailgate top itself seems fragile. Scared to lay anything heavy across it...

I'd probably replace the button head cap screws for some ultra low profile socket head cap screws (black stainless).
May be able to use countersunk screws though too.

I am excited to see what you find. I don't have too many issues with mine, and while I have never caught my foot on it - I can tell it's a sleeping hazard. I do use my tailgate step often, but I didn't add the bed/amp step and that may be why.Guess I'll be the guinea pig on this one. Ordered!

I am shocked how mine has lasted so long being that it does get heavely used.
The one on my Dad's '17 MY took a crap within a few years and hardly any use.

Mine got badly damaged from unloading steel plate and welding and laser gas cylinders. Airgas employee said he sees it all the time and has seen many trucks with just a piece of angle iron there lol.
I replaced mine with another OEM plastic one because this product didn’t exist back then. Wish it did, but now it will be the last time I have to replace it.

I feel like it could use a different finish (to match what's already there) but I'd be all over a group buy @modified
Maybe before the group buy (if it happens) they could swap out the screws like @BroncoHooves described.

I'd be interested as well if the step remains usable. I use my step all the time getting in the back of my truck
It is still usable..
That stupid plastic cap has caught on my boots before. I would not be surprised to hear of someone getting jacked up from it. It about caused me to land on my face more than once. Now I hop off from the sides of the tailgate to avoid it hanging up on boot/shoe lugs.
