Did you check fuse 37? Heated steering wheel fuse. Should be 20A. If it's bad and blows periodically, you may have a short or heater draws too much current.

Thanks for the help, but it didn't quite work out. First of all, the fuse panel is very difficult to access unless you are a contortionist. Once you can see it, they are so close and tight in there that you can't even get needle nose pliers on it. So I ended up prying it out with a tiny screwdriver, after which it flew (like a pheasant) and disappeared into thin air. So now I can't even find it to see if it was bad. Yes, I am PISSED! Shitty design, made that way so that you HAVE to take it to dealer. Do auto parts houses stock those?
