What’s in your gun safe?

I wish suppressors weren’t even listed as firearms. Really don’t need these to go through FFLs anymore.
in Africa, You can purchase a suppressor online or over the counter from gunshops or manufacturers without filling out special government permits for the suppressor itself

I agree. Folks who live around outdoor gun ranges love suppressors.

I notice didn't hit the SBR discussion...so this was one of the first that popped up when I looked:

That begs the question : What about private sales of suppressors?

It is only allowed for two parties in the same state

Rules for an In-State Private Sale
If you are a Texas resident selling a suppressor to another Texas resident, you do not technically need to go through a local gun shop (FFL dealer) to complete the sale, but you must complete the following steps: [1, 2]
  • Both Parties Must Be Texas Residents: Private NFA transfers can only happen directly between residents of the same state. [1, 2]
  • Submit an ATF Form 4: The buyer and seller must fill out and submit an ATF Form 4 (Application for Tax Paid Transfer and Registration of Firearm). The application requires the buyer's fingerprints (via FD-258 cards) and photographs. [1, 2]
  • The Federal Tax Stamp: Historically, a $200 tax stamp was required with the Form 4. However, following significant 2026 federal court rulings and subsequent ATF policy changes, the mandatory federal tax stamp has been eliminated, meaning the buyer does not have to pay the $200 fee. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
  • The Seller Retains Possession: The most restrictive rule of a private sale is that the seller must keep physical possession of the suppressor while the ATF processes the Form 4. You cannot give the suppressor to the buyer to use or hold while they wait for their background check to clear. Once the ATF sends back the approved Form 4, you can legally hand the device over to the buyer.
