Vecman's Build - Boyhood Dreams Realized!

@Vecman How hard is it to do the mirror cap replacement and black boost auto parts mirror signal spotlights? You said the mirror motor doesn't need removed even though one of the videos shows it being removed?

The weather is going to get cold again in a few days, so I want to do them while the plastic is warm and less of a chance of breaking clips. I want to do the install with the mirrors on the truck and not have to take them off.

It’s not bad. The top mirror was difficult for me to remove. After that, everything came off relatively easy. Parts are super simple to swap. Then putting everything back together was not as simple as it appeared. Leaving the puddle light out until everything is back together made it much easier. Just make sure to remember to keep the wires out through the hole. Same with the other wires. I had a few get snagged and had to fix them. Just me not paying attention.

Bottom mirror was easy to remove? And, the top glass motor doesn't need unscrewed at all like PTT Arod showed? Thanks!

Correct about the top mirror motor. Smaller mirror wasn’t bad. In PTTs video, the top one popped out so quick and easy. Mine did not come for easy like that. Maybe I was missing some clip or something, but I don’t think so.

One more thing. The size of the screw in the bottom mirror holder was not the same size and PTT said. I can’t remember what it was, I think a very small torx bit. Anyway, let me know if you need anything else! Good luck! They’re gonna look great!

Thank you for this good info. Think it takes about 30 minutes for each install or should I figure 1 hour for each?

First one took me about an hour. Second one was closer to 15 min. Puddle light and reassembly was what threw me off on the first one. I think you could potentially do both in an hour total, assuming the top mirrors come off fine

I think I'm going to remove the puddle light first to save some struggles later in the install. :D

It comes off easy during. It was only an issue during assembly, and if you let the wires hang out the hole until the mirror is completely reassembled, it will be a non-issue for sure

Do you think removing the glass in this manner would work?

That’s how I did them on my Transit van. So I tired this, but it didn’t seem like it wanted to budge. The connection looks the same. I honestly don’t know why it didn’t come off easier. And it may have just been me being scared to break a mirror on a one day old truck! Haha.

Thank you. :D The connection PTT showed in his video on the back of the top glass looked entirely different than that video I just posted? The video above looks alot easier with that connector.

Yeah, our mirrors should be like PTTs, and his popped right off. That’s why I wonder if I wasn’t getting the connector just right. Either way, once those come off, and you wait to put the puddle light back on till the end, you’ll be golden

I mean the little electrical connector that PTT showed looked fiddly, whereas the recent video above had a mini harness with the connector in the middle of the wire and not the back of the glass.

There is a slot for the top mirror that you put a flat head screwdriver into and twist. It releases the upper mirror from the motor. Once it's off, you remove the bolts holding the upper and lower trim, including the upper cap. A small trim removal tool is used to help separate the black textured back of the mirror.

That’s the slot I couldn’t see/find. That’s why it gave me such a difficult time I’m sure.
