Vecman's Build - Boyhood Dreams Realized!

Or a set of the warns 🤣😉

Can’t wait to see more pictures of this vecman. Congrats. Love the setup you got.
Thanks @Tucsontremor!! I’m watching you do your thing as well. You may have convinced me on the tonneau cover you did. I hated the size of the retrax drum, but your drum looks way more manageable

View attachment 41918Up close on the rear Axle wheels. I love these wheels. SDHQ ended up painting them for me, and was gonna do flat black. They decided last minute to use a glossy black, and I’m glad they did. It matches very well.
@Vecman Wheel/tire package looks great!!!

@Vermonster this is another good one for your reference file...

I am extremely happy how that combo turned out. Wheels were a bit of a risk, since there just wasn’t many trucks to see them on, but I absolutely love them!

One thing i didn’t understand. They were going to paint them flat black for you before deciding on gloss black, but dont they already come flat black from factory? Was the paint not good enough from factory?

Thanks for asking, I was wondering the same thing...

It’s not exactly black. Maybe dull flat black (if that makes sense). I saw them at the dealership before they did the PDI and put the Tremor wheel caps on. They were an eyesore for sure. Very noticeable against the wheels. Flat black would have made them a better black shade. Gloss matched the more “satin” like finish of the Axle wheels

Im assuming ill likely face the same issue with the black out package being gloss black throughout and arsenals (still hoping i can find them) also being dull black as you describe them axles.

Yeah, probably. It will make sense once you see them. Yes, the hubs are black, but not a nice solid black. Flat would be fine, but the gloss turned out much better. I’m glad they did that for me. I’d assume the arsenal finish is similar to the Axle one, so gloss would look great

You going to smoke your cab lights (spray tint) to match the smoked Boost mirror signals?

No. I’m happy with the look of the factory lights. I did it on the mirrors just to make the mirror look all black and not stand out.

With the 5th wheel prep, the pucks and covers aren't as "robust" as I would have thought. They will undoubtedly get damaged the first time I slide something heavy in the bed. So, I decided to get a bed mat to cover them up. I was going to go with the Ford Super Duty labeled one, just because I like to have the consistency, but the extra $50 for that over the husky liner just didn't make sense. This fit perfectly and will do the job I need it to do. Easily removed or rolled up when the hitch is needed.

To recap what was done by SDHQ -

S&B 60 gallon tank
S&B Air Filter
3.5" Carli Suspension - all upgrades - Fox 2.0 commuter shocks were placed on the truck as a place holder - E-Clik shocks have already been ordered and are anticipated around early February.
Wheels/Tires with new TPMS installed

They painted my rear hubs, reprogrammed the computer for the new tank size, new tire pressures, and recalibrated my speedometer. I was expecting to have to do that with the new tires, but this morning when I got in the truck with Forscan ready, I decided to just go ahead and check my speedometer with a GPS speedometer. It was spot on.

Anyone in Arizona should strongly consider SDHQ for any significant installs. These guys are top notch, and recommended by Carli if you're doing a Carli Suspension. I am 110% satisfied with their work, and their customer service/care. These guys are so good!

@Vecman I do the same thing... Spray in liner with a bed mat. I really like the combo and it is easier on my knees when needed.

Just curious, was there a reason they didn't also paint the front hubs? Are you planning to replace with warn hubs is that why?

I plan to either paint or replace them myself. Easier to make that decision when the rig is here:-)

I asked them about that, they don't paint the front ones. Not sure why, but they explained to me exactly how to do it myself. The cover is supposed to come right off by removing the 3 Allens. I'm gonna try it either today or tomorrow and paint it real quick. I will probably do matte finish on those since it will match the dial better I think. I don't want to replace perfectly good lockers for the Warn ones at this time. When they need to be replaced, I will go with Warn then

Similar thoughts, warn hubs are good but pricey, i would want to try the paint myself approach first too. I wonder why though sdhq didn't want to do it, given they had no issue with wheels and back hubs. They must have some valid reason.

Yeah, I wish they would have elaborated. I did try to take off the cover tonight. It’s not just a cover. Looks like the whole locker comes out. I paused that job and I’m gonna do a bit more research before taking on that project. Don’t want to screw anything up

Can you mask off the splines and plastic knob and paint? I knew the satin look bead blasted cover doesn't come off.

The whole thing was coming out, but I didn’t want to pull hard, not pull it all the way out without knowing what I was doing. My thought is to pull it out about 1/4 - 1/2 inch, then get some painters tape around the back and mask off the wheel. Then painters tape off the middle selector part. Just didn’t have time to do that today. It’s gonna have to wait till after Christmas. It shouldn’t be hard, just will take more time than I currently have
