Vecman's Build - Boyhood Dreams Realized!

Realized it’s been a while for my build thread. I’ve done quite a bit to my baby since the last post. I will update a bit.

E-venture has been reviewed pretty well on the site, so I won’t go into it much, but I absolutely love the system on my truck. So glad I did it! I have a some mileage updates to my mini-experiment i was running, and I’ll address that later also. Here’s a few quick photos of some additions lately:

Lockable AR mount, prevents trigger access also. Like how it mounted to the seat back rack.

They’re great panels. I’d totally recommend them over any other brand/setup. Install is easy and they are rock solid. Not movement at all. Solid mounting points top and bottom, so they can handle whatever you want to put on them. One of my favorite things I’ve done

A few years ago, not long after I initially got the truck, I installed an S&B cold side pipe, and an SPE hot side - if I recall correctly at the time, the SPE guys only had 3" hot, and 2.5" cold side, and S&B had 3" cold side, and 2.5" hot side (again, assuming my memory is correct). over the last few months, I've had the hot side pipe silicone couplers nearest the turbo "pop off" during hard accelarations. There's a loud popping noise, and instant loss of power. I still can limp around, but big power is gone and black smoke bellows out the tailpipe. This has happened 3 times, all in not very ideal situations (the first being in the middle of nowhere on an interstate detour while passing a line of semi trucks).
Luckily, I jimmy rigged it with a set of pliers I had in the truck, and limped until I got into town and got some better tools to secure it.
I recently looked at S&B again, and now they have a 3" hot side pipe, and the connection to the turbo is with the clamping ring, instead of a silicon boot. I'm very hopeful this will eliminate future issues, since it's a solid connection and can't really slip off like the boot was doing.

First picture is of the removed SPE pipe, you can see the two boots on either end with clamps.

Second picture is the newly installed S&B pipe

Just noticed how long it's been since my last post on here - Dang! Not sure if that's a good or bad sign! A few more additions to come, so I'll make sure to update here again.

Stop limpin' around! 🤪

I took off work today, wanted to get a few lighting projects done that have been lingering (unfortunately not the limitless flashers yet - ugh - I want that project done so badly!).

Started with the rear lights. I had some S2 Pro pods underneath the rear bumper. Those are getting repurposed, so I decided to bite the bullet, sack up, cut some holes in my bumper, and mount the S2 Pro flushies! I think it turned out great. I’d like to eventually get a rear bumper with internal hidden winch mount, but this will work out well in the meantime

On to the next project!

Just finished installing both the A-pillar lights and @BroncOh 's ditch lights.

Just need to wait till dark to make sure they are positioned how I want and all the lights are doing their part to light up the night!

Concerning @BroncOh ‘s kit, it’s very nice.
The install is very simple - unless you skip over certain words “making sure the cord exit at the back of the light is facing up towards you”. My brain only read the cord towards you, and I didn’t even register the “up” part. So when I went to slid on the housing, the light was hitting the bottom mirror arm. I quickly realized what I had done and turned it around.
The only real hiccup was when I was stripping back the passenger side bundle of wires, I snagged one of the wires and cut it. I was so pissed. Then I realized it was the mirror wire I needed, so I just put it into the wire connector Bronco provided and it worked fine! Got super lucky there. I installed the limitless autoworks mirror spot override. I have it as a flashing module, but I decided that since I installed this light kit, I don’t want those lights flashing. That’s too bright. So it was a simple plug-n-play and tuck up the flashing module in the dash for another day if I change my mind.

If the A-pillar mounts look bulky, they are the Bad Ass Mounts swivel mount mounted on the SDHQ brackets. I like the idea of being able to pull a pin and redirect the light, even though I probably will never use that function. - My brain doesn’t always allow me to keep things simple. 😂

Someone got a detail and is looking pearly!

The rear pods look great, that's the same set up I had when I had my stock rear bumper and I think it's the cleanest way to have rear aux lighting. You almost ripped one off on that infamous ledge you never saw 😂

You certainly have some serious lighting going on in the front, expecially with that Onyx 30" bar - I know that thing is like 10x times any light bar out there, if I recall correctly. I meant to have you kick on your front aux lights when we were out the other night but it was getting to late for everyone, I spaced it. I like the fact your front steel bumper allows for a light bar as such, pods can only get so bright even with the 6 that my bumper allows.

Bronco's ditch light can easily swivel and since I am mainly using them for strobe purposes, I have them almost 90 degrees. I have an amber lense on them, which you may remember. Regardless, I used them last weekend when night time fell on us (along with a thunderstorm) and they did well lighting the edge of the trail.

I really would like to wire them separately and almost not have them on the same switch as the mirror spot light. I do like the fact that everything strobes with one flick of a switch (Aux #6) but there are times where I want to run the factory mirror spot lights only and not necessarily have the ditch lights come on; they are bright like you said especially if you are near civilians. I may be the only person that actually used the factory mirror spot lights all the time; I think they provided just enough light that was not overwhelming.

Your override module from Limitless auto has two functions? Override and strobe?

It's been too long to remember but I want to say I have two modules, one that overrides the spotlight and one that activates the strobe function. So in essence, the factory switch turns on the spotlight but the spotlight strobe module is activiated via Aux #6.

Those A-pillar ears are big - are they the XL80s? Man, some serious light indeed!

Sounds like someone is eagerly waiting to do some night wheelin' 👹

Yes, limitless had two options - mirror spot override or mirror spot override with strobe. I got the strobe one. The front defiantly outs out a lot of light. It’s amazing to see how ouch it actually lights up. I love it. Gonna get some use out of it next weekend for sure! I do agree - I’d love o have the mirror spots strobe, and just kick a different switch for Bronco’s lights. But I’m not in the mood to take on those kind of wiring projects anymore. I light having all the fun stuff, but I hate running wire!

I was reading through your thread last night and you have definitely tackled on some monster projects, what appears to be all by yourself - super impressive!

Let’s brainstorm some ideas and perhaps we can do something together if that lends any amount of support and motivation.

I’m considering installing a radio unit like your setup. Hidden and out of the way, that’s beautiful! I just don’t have any room for antennas due to my 3rd brake light set up.

Took the family up to Nutrioso, small town in eastern Arizona at the edge of the white mountain area/Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. So beautiful up there. Did some turkey hunting, fishing, and lots of trails. Didn't see or hear any turkeys until a few hens ran across the road as we left, fish were scarce, but it was a very enjoyable time.

This is the gravesite of Oscar Shultz -
IMG_2463.webp

Here's a short story about his very brief criminal career. Sad and funny.

"Oscar Shultz was born in 1896 in Germany and migrated to America where he settled in Arizona. When Oscar's mother, still residing in Germany, needed money, Oscar decided that the best and easiest way to obtain some for her was to become an outlaw and take what was needed from others. On his first attempt at the easy money, he rode his horse onto the highway near Springerville, Arizona and stopped a car. After taking the fellow's wallet, Oscar was so disgusted that the man had less than $5.00, he put the money back. In the excitement of being robbed, the man did not realize he still had his money and reported the robbery to the sheriff of St. Johns, Arizona and a posse was soon hot after Oscar. When the posse got close, Oscar jumped off his horse and hid in a tree. In an effort to cover more ground, the posse scattered out and the sheriff happened to ride under the tree where Oscar was hiding. Oscar jumped out of the tree and took the sheriff's horse at gunpoint and made his escape. After hiding out for the night near Nutrioso, Arizona, a friend hid Oscar in a wagon, drove him out of town, and gave him a horse. Oscar fled to the small town of McNary, Arizona and at that point decided to rob the bank. Getting just over a hundred dollars he made his escape down into the Big Lake area. Now there was a large posse looking for Oscar and he was running as fast as he could. Deep into the forest he hid out for the night with a ranger in his lookout station. Two members of the posse, having followed Oscar's trail, arrived at the station before Oscar could leave the next morning and ordered Oscar to come out. Oscar was such a dangerous criminal, that even though he came out unarmed they shot and killed him. This was at the Blue Lookout on the 17th of May, 1922. The posse members strapped Oscar's body on the back of his horse and started back to town. After about two days they realized they had some distance to cover, the weather in mid-May was getting warm, and the body was beginning to deteriorate. So they buried Oscar in an isolated grave in a remote area. And yes, the mother was still in need of money.

Rumors have it that a family in the Springerville area still has his boots.

The grave is located at the junction of Forest Service Roads 276 and 8083.
To find the location from Alpine, Arizona from U.S. Highway 191. Take U.S. 191 north of Alpine, turn west onto Forest Service Rd #249 and go about 4 7/10 miles then turn south onto Forest Service Rd. #276 and go about 3 miles to the junction of #276 and 8083. The Grave is about 50 yards off to your left

This monster is a Speckled Dace. Lucky me... lol

Cool story on Oscar Schutz - I did not know about that one and probably have drove through there or near there many times.

Aside from loving the coat you have on the tires (tires only look good when new, otherwise, its when they're covered in dust or mud), I know you have TOTM material on that second pic overlooking that ridge.

You'll still loose and be denied entry but it's still a magnificent shot.

NEW SHOES!

Had a very small leak in one of the tires. Took it in to Discount Tire for a repair. Of course it ended up being in the sidewall. Hate that. Tires still had good amount of tread on them. And since my OCD can’t let me have mismatched tires, and the Falkens I had aren’t available, went with some 37x12.5R18 BFG KM3 Mud Terrains. Discount tire certificate for the win. They gave me the BFG one for free (they’d isn’t have to, the new tire was more expensive then the one being replaced) and gave me some money on the older tires. I was happy.
I was gonna swap to an MT tire next time anyway, but just ended up being earlier than expected. I considered the Yokohama Geolanders as well, but they were out of stock everywhere and I have to go on a cross country road trip tomorrow. My good friend (who I’ve grown up with since we were babies - like family) his 21 yr old daughter passed away yesterday. Gonna head up for a funeral and spend some time with them. Had to get the tires that were readily available. I’m not upset with the BFGs. Hoping they live up to their reputation. The drive home felt great. So we will see

Definitely love the look of the MTs!
