Upfitter Switches, What are you using them for?

6 - Supplemental horn

Is that the center console fridge? How did you wire it?
I plugged it into the console cigar plug as designed, and used forscan to keep the outlet on all the time, but it seems like it has since reverted back to default.

No, it's the 55IM (55 Litres w/ice maker) I have in the bed wired with the Dometic hardwire kit...

Does anyone have glow in the dark up fitter labels? I have great looking labels I bought on eBay but I can't see them unless it's daytime.

Here is my up fitter usage:
1. Front Locker
2. Front work lights
3. Rear work lights
4. Bull Bar spot light
5. Ditch Lights
6. Air compressor

I am close to ordering a new truck. I am curious what most people are using the upfitter switches for. I am trying to decide if is worth adding to the new truck.

Mostly lighting but most importantly the compressor and air horn

Also I added my upfitter switches at a later date. So if you're not sure and don't mind the cost difference, that's always an option.

I second the desire for glow in the dark labels. Anyone have a suggestion?

My current setup:

1. driving light - only w/ high beams
2. reverse lights - only when in P or R
3. 2wd low
4. anti air horn - defaults to enabled to sound during alarm
5. not used, but potentially battery isolator
6. air compressor - direct wired VIAIR 450C

I talked to Stickerlab this morning and he said the glow in the dark really doesn't work unless you have some light pointed at it regularly and it really didn't work on the up fitter labels. I guess I will just have to rely on my memory or use the iPhone to see the upfitter labels.

Agreed, I use these, and I can’t see them at night.

Someone needs to come out with a tritium ink or radium ink... a little radiation to not have to remember which switch does what.

So as a relative newbie around here how do you make this decision? Are there advantages to one switch or another? I thought I saw two of the switches can handle higher power than the others?

Here’s a list of what I’m planning to power, what would you put in which switch and why? Thank you in advance.

ARB twin compressor
Midland MXT575 50 Watt GMRS radio
Baja designs LP4 (2 of them)
Baja designs linkable bumper lights
Baja designs back up lights
Ford/ Warn factory winch

What order would you put these in? I haven’t looked at AMP draw but I assume the winch would be highest by far, second maybe the compressor?

I just put mine in the order of how frequently I would use them. I’m short so it makes a difference lol. Keep in mind that higher draw items like the ARB should use the upfitter as a relay trigger, not the power source. It should be connected directly to the battery.

Another thing to consider is whether you will want to use the upfitter with the key off. Switches 5-6 can be set to be hot at all times, while the others will need additional work to make that happen (Limitless sells a harness to make all upfitters hot all the time).

Here was my logic for my switches:

I put my rear light on #1 because it was the first switch I wired and I wanted it close when needed. I have plans to use #2 for another aux. light so they are next to each other.

ARB compressor was next. I put that on #4 since I don't use it as often and didn't need the higher current or constant power of 5 or 6.

Dometic fridge went to #5 since I wanted constant power and the install kit was 10ga wire - same as the 5/6 Upfitter.

Electric Horn went to #6 for constant power and to easily find it on an end position.

I'm liking that logic on the Dometic. I've got mine wired directly to the battery right now but I'd like it switched. I'll be following your logic on that.

I started off with mine straight to the battery but wanted the benefit of an on/off switch. The Dometic has low voltage protection but I also didn't want an always hot module in the bed when I'm not using the fridge.
