Truck Campers Only, w/ an Overland & Off-roading theme

Giant Schnauzer in the pic of your rig? We have one about to turn 8. Great dogs.
Great rig as well. Really well done.
Thanks. Rigs are always a work in progress. I will have it ruined soon! The dog is a Black Russian Terrier. He was fresh off his "summer shave" at that time.

Well, I started this thread so truck campers could help other truck campers. I just realized I’m two weeks out and I don’t have a plan for getting in and out of my camper.

So the truck bed is 40” high and the hitch is 24” what are you all using for a ladder or hitch step to get in and out!!! Help please!!!!!

I really like the torklift scissor steps. See post 64 on this thread.

I remember seeing that post and just went back to revisit it. My only concern was the mounting to the camper. Not sure I want to drill into the fiberglass…. Seems ideal on your application.

That does look great! Can i ask where you store/ carry it? How well does that work…. That’s really my only concern, where to store it when not in use. That and perhaps it getting stolen at a busy campground or festival? Thoughts? This seems to be what Supertramp recommends.

It’s the last thing in and first thing out, so we keep in on the floor just inside the door. I also have to use it for the awning and shower cube, I'm short.

That makes sense. And you’re right about using it in other places I hadn’t thought of that! Seems like a great option.

What a crock of shit… Thanks Ford.

It’s due to the cloth seats. Leather has a higher GVWR. 😁
Hahahah. Im proud to be a Pheasant!!!!

Tbh expect to see Scheel-Mann seats make an appearance in my truck. This was order 100% to be an offgrid/ Offroad camper vehicle not my daily driver ever. It was ordered with that idea in mind.

FWIW my daily has “vegan leather” seats in it… lol never really understood that. They must be made from Tofu.

From what I can tell these are about the best seats money can buy.

Don't have a truck camper but I took a drop hitch and welded a piece of square tube to it. Then I just used spry on bed liner a couple thin coats, then a thick coat, added some play sand real quick and sprayed another generous coat. I only have the one step but my "bed" in the back of my truck is probably around three ish feet tall.

It is a knappheid covered work box

That’s a great idea. Honestly making one at work was my first thought. I think if i do a hitch mount I’d want it to hinge or fold up in someway to get mostly out of the way. Might have to explore this farther.

I guess I need to look here more often. Catching up a little ....

I modified a Little Giant 4 step ladder for my flatbed. Here's a pic from a trip while I was still waiting on the camper, but you get the idea. Seems to work pretty well except the first step up is a little high. Wish they made a 5 step version. It stores flat in the big drawer that pulls out the rear of the flatbed. Quick on / off with some brackets I made that bolt to the l-track on the side of the flatbed.

Sheel-Mann! I already really miss those seats from my van. For me, they were a game changer. The stock seats in the truck aren't bad, but nothing compared to the Sheel-Mann seats. Maybe some day I'll put some in the truck.

Nice!!! Yea with a rig like that you should definitely visit more often! That was the idea behind this thread. Seems like the type of people who do this with their vehicles are very similar no matter where they are. And it’s very helpful to share great ideas and work through problems together. I do think those Scheel-Mann seats are the absolute best seats going. Doing my first long trip in the truck this weekend and I’ll get a few for the seats. Hahaha. Hell the truck doesn’t even have 500 miles on it yet and I bought it in July.

Side note, took off the tailgate yesterday in preparation for the ST install a week from today. First off. Holy hell, FIVE different plugs to unplug????? For a tailgate????? Secondly that’s gotta be the lightest tailgate I’ve ever seen!!!! It weighs a third of what I would have guessed!
