Truck Campers Only, w/ an Overland & Off-roading theme

I'm all in almost exactly $70K on my camper build. Thanks for making me feel a lot better about that!

Hopefully my wife never finds out we could have A/C that runs off of batteries. :) And while I totally understand why Starlink is so important for those of you working from the road (I would have killed for that when I use to work out my van on occasion). I now have no desire to be connected when on my trips so that saves another expense for me.

It would seem you have created the perfect build for your needs. Congrats!

Fear not. These guys make a really low pro A/C unit that fits in a standard 14x14 fan hole. Not saying to do it today but know that if you ever decide you want to it is available to add on. Tbh I wish my Supertramp had this unit since its lower profile inside and uses the standard sized hole. My Dometic is a non standard size.

$70k is no joke…. It’s crazy how much we can put into these tiny units. Easily buy a full size 5’er for the money we have invested in less than 100sqft. In truth I wouldn’t trade my truck camper for anything any other camper.

Well, I hate to say it, but there is a dark side to this occasion as well. Not ready yet to share more, but it is not all unicorns and fairy dust with sprinkles ;).

We’re waiting with bated breathe. For real though…. Anxious to hear.

We are birds of a feather there. When we go camping, we drive until we lose cell service, then start to look for a spot. Ha. On long trips, nice to drive through service occasionally to check weather, for important email or calls, etc. But then back into the middle of nowwhere if at all possible. I've found that if we have signal, I catch myself using it more than I want. Disconnecting is my way of...disconnecting.

Fully appropriate for those that work from the camper or otherwise want/need to stay connected. But I'm connected all week for work and recreationally, so camping is my opportunity to keep it simple. No cell service, social media, TV/movies and we don't even play music at the campsite. Our favorite activity is to sit around and try to become bored. Not having anything left to do means I've fully relaxed. Ha.

Sounds like something everyone alive needs to do more often. Humans weren’t made to be locked inside tiny little phones. I’m always happier when I’m unplugged and outside.

Yep, mine is no unicorn and fairy dust with sprinkles either, but I think (hope) it will work out.

And instead you guys got campers? Hahahaha

Where are my sprinkles? You cannot throw fairy dust and unicorns around and then forget about my sprinkles. Not cool, man  :ROFLMAO:

Chris. Did you ever detail what you’ve got for security? That’s one of my biggest concerns is having my $150k truck/camper disappear…

Living in CA I’d imagine this is an extra fear for you? Many pages back I discussed deadbolts like on an earthroamer, shatter resistant tint, and some kind of ignition immobilizing device…. Has anyone gone deep into this? I want my truck to be Fort Knox to be honest….

I put a Ravelco in. That thing ain't going anywhere unless you bring a big tow truck or break into my house and find the dongle (and know what it is for). I think at this IGLA is a slicker alternative, but it was not ready for prime time when I needed it and so I went with Ravelco. I think both have been discussed frequently here in the forum.

Wow. I must have shocked you guys with what I said - did you have a heart attack? Usually, I see responses within minutes in this thread. Let me know if we need to call 911 for you. :p :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Very random Chris...but this is your truck right? Was randomly scrolling around google maps this evening, checking out potential campsites to visit someday, and ran across this photo in Anza-Borrego.

Id stay away from the Nomadic cooling units if possible. The Dometic RTX2k is a much cleaner install, with much better support. Often times, the nomadic units require a ridiculous foam sealing process to get the ducting to work properly in the headliner area. Additionally, that super sexy flush valence inside drips with condensation almost every time.... no gracias!

Hahahaha no…. I’m on EST and had to be up at 0400, hence the reply now!

It actually doesn’t shock, or even surprise me. I don’t know you besides online but we’re all the same. This SUPERTRAMP is my 5th or 6th build. I always think they’re perfect or that they’re going to be the one. Than a shiny new thing comes out and I justify how that next thing will be perfect and If i only had that it’d be exactly what I need.

In truth there’s always a next truck or camper and none of them are perfect. So no I won’t be surprised at all lol.

Your build is pretty dialed though…. Idk where you’d think you’re going to go from here. Unless it’s back to a house or into
Something smaller and different all together…. The ST to me is on the outer limits for size for a camper I could use.

Certainly be interested to hear your thoughts though after owning it a while.

100% that’s his truck lol, before the solar upgrade of course but you can see the Weboost antenna on the front of the camper. Lol. That’s crazy….
