Truck Campers Only, w/ an Overland & Off-roading theme

Tramper's weight post finally got me around to weighing my truck pre-camper. I've always wondered where it would land with the Bowen aluminum flatbed on it. This is with no people in the truck and full tank (F250 with 7.3 gas). There's at most 50 - 100 lbs between what's in the flatbed boxes and the aluminum load bar I have mounted to the rear of the flatbed so this is pretty much just the truck and gas. I'm guessing I'll land somewhere between 10,000 and 11,000 lbs with the camper on. Hoping it's closer to 10,000. I'm surprised how light the SuperTramp is! What a great camper that is.

At current gross weight of 7840 lbs, I've "lost" 477 lbs of payload from what's on the door sticker.

Basically it is configured like this for the current weight (this pic is from delivery day at Bowen).

I can’t wait to see your finished out rig. That color , height, and Bowen bed combination is perfect!

Pretty close to what mine was, with Bowen bed (w/front garage):
4520 front, 3700 rear, 8220 total (but that includes about 400lbs of passenger/dog/luggage, plus I had a full 58 gallons of fuel in the tank.

On these F250 tremors, the mechanical limit should be around 11,300 lbs, right? Same as the F350 tremor seeing as they are identical.

i won’t go into details, but I constantly pushed my 17’ 350 with the same drivetrain and suspension well beyond the 11,500 sticker on the door. Quite a few times grossing well beyond the 26K CDL limit, and sometimes just a lot of GVWR. It never hiccuped even at 80+ on these lonely West Texas highways, which included a couple of hard brake locks.

Nice! That is good info to have I think. For $13.50 I like knowing what’s happening with my truck rather than guessing. Your truck looks REALLY good I can’t wait to see it with the Bison in place.

Since we are on the topic of cameras, I purchased a Rostra rear camera relocation kit (P/N 250-8661) for my 2022 F250 Tremor Lariat with a flatbed and discovered it is intended ONLY for trucks with 360 deg camera setup. Mine does not have that, it is not compatible, and I'm not motivated enough on this project to modify it to work for me. This is only compatible for 2017-2022 Super Duty trucks (which of course conflicts with the sticker on the box that says '19+) with 360 deg camera setup according to their website. Paid $170 for it. It's new in the box. Make me an offer if you'd like it. A bottle of Código 1530 Reposado (it's my favorite and I would thank you every time I take a drink of it during my upcoming Mexico trip) would be a great offer! Would rather see it go to use other than being a paper weight on my desk. Thanks

If this is still for sale shoot me an DM. In need for a new camera now that our truckbed and tailgate are long gone!

I think I’m in Love…
Almost the exact camper and truck we were going to build. Supertramp had a 11 month wait when we spoke with Kelsey so we went a different route, only for it to blow up in our face. Should have just gotten in line... Also would have been able to take advantaged of the 2x 2023 tremors I ordered and had to back out on. Turns out I love our 22 and it ships for Europe in may but seeing your rig definitely has us drooling!

Someday I'd like a truck camper. The Supertramp and other pop up style are interesting, but don't provide enough protection from bears. Anyone else concerned about that?

DA

Actually yes!!!! This was a big reason we went with Supertramp.

So we live in NY, so no killer bears where we live but we travel to Griz country to hike and fish about every year.

Anyway, i didn’t want a hard sided camper, because I’m not willing to sacrifice height clearance while off-roading. So the ST specifically has enough room to sleep with the top down if and when needed. It won’t be the best night sleep compared to the full queen bed but it’s 100% doable for two people if you are in an area that requires hard sides campers. It was the only soft side I saw as a viable options. I’d guess maybe the OEV you could sleep in the dinette with the top down too. Again it’s not an all the time solution but for high Griz areas it’s definitely possible.

Yeah we ordered ours in March and obviously it just got finished so I hear yeah…. Sounds like your rig is going to be just fine.. but we would sure like to see a picture if it….

Finally climbed up to the roof to take a look. Looks good up here!!!!! I did get an email from ST this afternoon warning me to check my SeaSucker mounts and make sure they aren’t ready to let go because of the fluctuations in temperature. Mine were fine so far but I’ll keep an eye on them.

I don’t worry about bears coming in thru the canvas part of the camper. It’s 10’ off the ground. If they are that brave, I have a .45 amp waiting for them.

Cheers 🍻
I carry my G20 10mm with buffalo bore
Hardcast whenever I’m out west. It’s not so much the fear; some parks forbid soft side campers depending on bear activity. Just the way it is.

We are packing the exact same. I need to learn to manage the recoil or else I might use an entire mag without hitting the damn thing.....

Ask and you shall receive!

Trying to get the interior completed in the next 60 days so we can give it a shake down in Baja for a month or so before its gets on a boat in May to head over the Atlantic. Grateful for flat mount Starlink solutions (which we sell folks) which allow us to now work from anywhere. I'll make sure to post some photos once we make some more progress on the interior.

God I love this truck.

Their suggestion to check it suggests, to me, that you should entertain some type of leash/tether at least until shakout is complete and confidence builds that the suckers are dependable. I added a tether when I used VHB tape and sealant to secure a solar panel on my last rig. I knew it was all good, since I was meticulous in application and I also used twice as many brackets as recommended, but the tether gave me piece of mind the first year.

The consequence of a solar panel, or any roof mounted gear, coming off at interstate speeds and hurting someone behind me (or even just property damage) was not something I was willing to risk. Just imagine something coming off someone else's rig and smashing your new truck or camper. Imagining how I'd feel on the receiving end is enough to motivate me to do the little bit of design and implementation needed to add a tether.

You should be able to devise some type of tether that is simple and unobtrusive, especially since the roof is out of sight anyway.

Nice!!!! I remember looking at those FIFTY10 campers with Brian from Goose Gear a few years ago, (maybe 2018?). Massive inside space! I can’t wait to see the finished product

Sorry Gmoon, Just shipped it to another forum member.

Added a splash of color to the interior yesterday to offset all the white. I'm picking up the cushions when we go to Boise next week. Much less to have them made there than in the Bay Area.

Getting closer ....
