The TREMOR Towing Table

I also got them from the towing guide but believe that the camping math payload includes 150lbs for each passenger space.

Edit, meaning actual max payload is should be about 900lbs more than listed if assuming 6 passengers for a base XLT

I believe you’re right. These numbers come from page 13 of the 2021 towing guide so they reflect Ford’s “camping math”. (Notably the GVWR discrepancy on that page is different than the cargo weight discrepancy.)

Do you know where else Ford might be publishing GVWR’s to confirm the numbers you’re citing?
Looking for the “6” footnote marker (Tremor package) on that page it shows 11,300 and 11,500 GVWR for the 7.3 and 6.7 respectively.

(The “6” is on the cargo weight, but that then specifies which GVWR applies.)

There’s also an 11,400 GVWR for the 6.7 tagged with Tremor, which I’m pretty sure is a derate option.

The
Ford's Towing Guide is confusing AF, as is made evident by the half dozen posts here per day asking the same questions about towing capacity we all asked before selecting our vehicle configuration. I figured I'd take a stab at clarifying things by simplifying the tables strictly for Tremor's. Here's what I've got so far:

Let me know if you spot any discrepancies. This is already clarifying my understanding. Most of the threads here are about conventional or 5th Wheel towing, and these numbers are somewhat different in a few cases than what I see cited here every day.

Could ya'll help me fill in the blanks? How can we get the base curb weights for these configurations (less options and accessories?) Where is Ford publishing the GVWR and GAWR? I was thinking about also adding the base tire and load ratings. Could we crowdsource these numbers off our stickers?
The Tremor isn't available with the 7.3 and 3.55's. The only rear end available with the 7.3 is the 4.30. 100%.

OK, made a 3rd revision removing the 7.3 3.55 and fixing the F350 GVWRs. Updating the OP as well.

I’m wondering if the max cargo weight shouldn’t be in the table. That number doesn’t seem all that useful to most people, and the name is confusing. It implies that’s the maximum possible payload capacity, but that’s not true since it’s based on having all seats full.

Basically, what’s the value of it? And is that value worth more than the confusion it’s likely to cause?

Yeah, I'm on the fence, however it is a question I see come up frequently. Particularly through the lens of “How much can I tow if I put ~2000 lbs in the bed?” And it's also one of the main things that was useful about Ford's VIN Calculator (calculating these balances.)

Ideally I think this number would be the true max payload of a base model. I'm wondering if our door jamb stickers are actually customized by our accessories or if they're just by package. e.g. My door jamb is 2874 for a 7.3 Lariat Tremor (no moonroof, limited options.) Do people with 7.3 Lariats who have a moonroof or other accessories have a different payload number on their door jamb?

Everybody's max payload is different. My 21 F350 Lariat with dual batteries is at 3757. That's well over the amount stated on your chart.

The door jamb sticker is truly individualized to that vehicle for all factory-installed options. That’s why you see so much variance with it.

I can’t quote the regulation, but I’m pretty sure that sticker is federally regulated as it’s the same on all vehicles. Even my 1980 Mazda RX-7 has it.

When it comes to answering questions about “What can I tow when I have 2000 pounds in the bed?”, that’s what I’m hoping my guide will solve. It will teach folks the actual concepts behind the numbers so they can do the math for their specific situation.

Honestly once a person understands the concepts it’s not too difficult to determine what you can haul/tow in a given situation and stay under the numbers.

Right, because these numbers from the towing guide assume 750 pounds of passengers. Theres an additional 20-100 lbs unaccounted for in that guide depending on the variant.

Yes, it's worth noting though that a lot of the folks asking questions here do not yet own a Tremor. They're in the market and deciding between variants. The underlying questions are seemingly:

“Do I need to pay the extra cost and fees for a 350 versus a 250 for my use case?”

“Do I need to pay the extra cost and fees for a diesel versus a gas for my use case?”

In other words I think it's less important that our numbers be very precise to any specific load out and more important that they show true orders of magnitude or relative differences between major variants. Of course with the disclaimer that once you have a truck you should do your own math based on the actual stickers on your actual truck AND trailer.

That’s a good point.

In that case I think the threads where lots of folks have posted their door stickers along with their config is more useful. Lets you see the range of capacities for the config you’re considering.

And it is a range since there’s inevitably differences in smaller options even if the major ones are the same.

Technically threads like that could be aggregated, but you would have to do so many variants: XLT base, XLT Value, Lariat base, Lariat Value, Lariat Ultimate, King Ranch base, etc.

Then take each of those with/without moonroof, 5th wheel prep, etc.

The curb weights vary so significantly with trim and options that someone could easily be fine for payload with an XLT 250, but need a 350 if they’re opting for a loaded Platinum.

What baseline variant do you think the Camper page is using? The “maximum cargo weight” has to be derived from some “minimum curb weight” right?

It would be the lightest possible config to get the biggest possible number.

So lowest trim level, no options. This means front bench seat, no moon roof, no fifth wheel prep, etc.

In the Tremor’s case it would be an XLT since you can’t get Tremor on an XL.
