Side by sides / Offroading

I'd probably pull the trigger on a rubicon before i spent 40k on one of those enclosed side bys. They're not anymore capable, the travel is limited, and about the only conveniences are size for trail width and tossing one on a trailer or toy hauler for a hunting trip.

If I didn't enjoy going fast in the desert I would have kept my JLUR. Newer Jeeps (hybrids excluded) are damn capable, comfortable and it doesn't take much money to get them on 40's.
 
I have a buddy who sells jeeps and can get me in to a new 2025 Jeep Willys for about 16k off so about 38k which is less than the Polaris Xpedition and the same price as the Can Am Defender XD11. Or I might just find an early 2000’s model for around 15k. I like the side by sides but the prices are just ridiculous.

I have a sportsman 850, my wife a sportsman 570. I had a 2005 600 for many years. I have loved the quads. Last month I was at a atv/utv jamboree in the eastern Sierras. I was the only quad out there in a field dominated by the highest end SxS made. I was able to keep up with all of them through the toughest terrain. One day was a full 100 miler.
I'll tell you that beat the hell out of me, but I did it. The SxS are much better suited for the high speed stuff and with a lot less drama.
I think my wife's 570 is actually more fun to ride than my 850.
 
With all the talk about getting a Jeep.

I've posted this before, but seriously thinking about getting a Ford Ranger Raptor. Top of my list right now is the Can Am Mav R XRC 4 door. It will be about $55k or so out the door just for the car. It will completely destroy the Ranger Raptor on every type of terrain but the freeway. It would be the same comparing it to a Jeep. 405 HP 430 lb/ft torque and weighs 5400 lbs. it would be a little under powered. But with some time and money for a mid travel kit, some more HP it could be a fun truck. Dealer said they could easily get this one out the door below $60K. Yes a mid travel kit will be about $10K total, but Foutz has a kit you could buy as you go that adds bypass shocks to the factory shock and new arms all the way up to full replacement of everything. Have some custom cut paddles and get it on 35's or 37's at full stuff. It would even fit it in the trailer. It would only be 2" wider and 3' longer until I bobbed and bed caged the back.

It just depends on what's the most important. Do you need bad space, room for a crew, payload and towing capability, if so, go with a true utility like the CanAm Defender or Polaris Ranger, Kawasaki Mule, etc. If you want an all out toy then you'll be looking at something like the X3 or RzR. Something in between, the General and Xpedition work well.

Prices vary widely, adding A/C and heat and fully enclosed cab drives the price way up. No personal experience with CF Moto but they wouldn't get my money.

I hear ya. Everywhere around here is in SxS. And there I go on my 2 up Outlander 😄

I cant justify > $50K for a utility vehicle for our uses.

Ranch use, Deer Season, and the one off trips to Little Sahara in OK



there are sweet deals out there for $15-$17K
