[resolved] Turbo Failure - Ford not covering

You've seen that? An aftermarket air filter/cia allowing things into the 6.7 that should be there? Interesting...
Not directly allowing it. It’s usually caused by poor installation. I’ve seen tools/bolts left on an air filter, cone style filters left loose and fall off.

Insurance won't be necessary. This is a slam dunk for lemon laws and buyback. Ford will warranty the turbo because they don't want to buy an 80k truck back.
This has nothing to do with buyback or lemon law. That takes several repeat repairs to even start.

Can you post your VIN?

Also I am seriously thinking about cancelling my tremor now as , at least with my power wagon they pay for it! In this case they are pretty much fucking you about. This is a failed component on a brand new truck this should not have failed. They have to show something outside of normal wear and tear . I’ll watch this thread for a few more days, call ford, and in the mean time, go look at power wagons again or a Chevy/ gmc. Even if my dealer doesn’t refund my down, I’d rather be out 1k then deal with this shit.

Just don’t need this stress or aggravation
This is not ford directly not covering something. The dealer is simply saying it is physically damaged. This can happen. Let’s say you hit a chunk of steel and damage the trans pan that is not a defect and not covered. But it’s on them for an explanation. If the intake system is sealed and no prof of tampering my dealer would cover no questions asked. I wouldn’t be concerned about purchasing a truck.

Damn that sucks....terrible news for sure...

All great points
Thank you for your correct assessment ??

I told my wife about your situation because I have an Iconic Silver Tremor at the factory waiting for transit right now. So crazy. It seems like it wouldn’t be difficult for them to realize that nobody took the turbo apart or that access into the turbo (from damaging materials) would be almost impossible. It sounds like, from your response above, that the original dealer is either fixing or investigating. Hopefully they will realize it was just a fluke defect and make it right.

I’m with you on this! Me and you being in the business we see this daily, I think the biggest issue here is that the dealer has not giving a good enough reason for the denial. I would say 99% of the time the dealer is going to fix, I know as well you if we had it and seen no evidence of tamper we would 100% cover it but like I have said we have not seen the truck or anything. If the turbine wheel is damaged it’s not a failed part, sum thing else caused the failure and that 100% needs to found if the truck is repaired or it could happen again. Just like when u do a engine that has came apart we replace the intake manifolds to prevent damage to new engine. I hope it all works out on this deal, but I would almost guarantee Ford has not had the final say yet!

Hopefully everything gets covered for you quickly. I am not sure how Ford warranty works but think the dealer has a lot to do with a denied claim. I have only had to deal with warranty a hand full of times over the years and except for a RAV 4 issue no problems. I hope Ford does not do the same as Toyota once something is deemed to be not warranty issue by one dealer it is denied everywhere. I can see something like this souring a lot of people on Ford so it is to their benefit to handle under warranty as they should. I am still reluctant buy another Toyota with how corporate handled the situation for my wife on the Rav 4.

Hi all,

I have a 2020 6.7 Tremor with 2K miles and on Tuesday, I had my truck randomly go into "Reduced Power Mode" and the truck barely ran once that happened. I promptly took it to the dealer and today I finally got the diagnosis. I have a damaged turbine and it was damaged by who knows what but I was told it would cost me $7,000 to fix/replace and it wasn't covered under warranty because it "wasn't a manufacturer defect". I was BLOWN AWAY to say the least to hear this. My service adviser was great and fully understood my surprise and frustration. I then called Ford customer care and outlined my issue and asked for help. They were very nice and attentive and offered to call the dealership and subsequently told them to submit a warranty request and see if it gets approved. I've been told we should know something early next week.

I candidly can't believe that I even have to fight for this and wait for a decision. It is a brand new truck and clearly a warranty issue. Its blowing my mind that this wasn't immediately repaired and I am having to argue with them over this. Its not like I cracked open the sealed box and threw rocks in there...something clearly is wrong and now I am helpless and hoping someone approves the request so they can order the parts and schedule a repair or I am screwed.

If that's the case, I will be getting rid of it and making sure people know this story. I am hopeful that Ford will do the right thing and repair it under warranty, and promptly. Meanwhile I will be without my truck for a few weeks while these games are played which is extremely frustrating. I'll let you know how it ends up but just sharing as an FYI as there could be a bigger problem out there.

It's a shame because I loved the truck for the few months I have owned it. I hope that keeps on and I get it back in working order covered under warranty.

Any updates yet

I had one warranty claim that was denied. A part fell off my car and they would not replace it. Totally understandable as I could have removed it. The service writer from the dealership ended up getting the part and installed it. They went above and beyond. I have seen what dealers charge the manufactures for warranty service. At the end of the day they dealership buys Cars/Trucks/parts from Ford and then gets reimbursed for warranty labor. Must be a nightmare to keep those books.

Revised response since you edited your post. "Outside Influence" was the reason but they cannot define what that is because they don't know. Water, rodent, rocks, terrorist, act of God, etc... None of those were issues that I am aware of and there was no evidence of tampering or sabotaging my own truck which pisses off the conspiracy folks I know. It's at the other dealer now and they aren't questioning it and are in the process of fixing it so I'm not raising hell with the first place because I don't think I need to -- and I'm probably too laid back which can be a fault at times I suppose. Thanks for all the responses!
I'm curious so I know what to look for. Like it would be nice to know exact cause like assembly defect

What did the new dealer say?
How’s your new ride Rictor. I’m so excited for you my brother. It’s got to be Freakin Awesome
I’ve been looking into the HQ19 and the HQ21 for an RV. I’m hoping to order one of them on Black Friday Deals around Thanksgiving.
Last year I saw other RVs were on sale for 40-60% off. But I didn’t have a truck to pull her. Now I figure I can order a 2021 and be able to pick it up once I get my Tremor probably close to the end of the year.
Shit these are exciting times my man.
I hope your truck is just the way it is as they are in my dreams when I’m sleeping. May GOD Bless and Protect your Red Beast.
???✌️??????????????

The reason I held out for the 7.3 liter gas motor was to avoid the high expenses of the diesel. I hope Ford comes through for you. I'm still waiting on my Ultimate Trailer Package and I've had my truck since January. They keep saying it's in the mail. It's been 10 months.

Sorry guys, had other things going and forgot to post the latest! Update is great news. It is being fixed by my dealer and they can’t find any faults that would void any warranty coverage for this debacle. I don’t have all of the specifics but will post when I do. Turbo being replaced per what I was told today. Hope to get it back next week and I’m pretty excited about that. Have a good weekend.
