Heavy Loads & Hauling with the Tremor

I’m in the same boat, deciding between a 250 or a 350 for the same reason, looks like the 350 has a payload 600#’s higher.
We went with the F350 for the better payload, but pulling a fifth wheel toy haul seems to put me over. I have heard that if I put my sxs in the garage of the toy hauler it will take some weight off the hitch. However I am still technically over the payload with or with out the sxs loaded.

I have really done my research on this subject. Every single truck is different.....and each truck-- cargo capacity varies., one guy on here had a f350 Tremor with a cargo capacity of 1750 lbs...so be careful and check the stickers inside the drivers door. Don't get stuck with an $80K mistake.........my GVWR on my 6.7 F250 Lariat Tremor is 10800 LBS. The highest available for F250 Tremor. My cargo sticker says I can put 2730 LBS of people and stuff including pin/hitch weight into my truck and be legal. I hit the scale today with all my family, dog, fuel, and stuff. My truck weighed 8600 LBS. That leaves me 2200 lbs max for pin weight and or tongue weight. So my F250 can tow all half ton towable 5th wheels and any travel trailer I have checked out so far. What it won't tow is larger 5th wheels with pin weights over roughly 2000 lbs loaded (legally).

If you are considering a Tremor and you KNOW your gonna tow a fifth wheel...get a 350 with the 11500 gvwr (or higher if they make it). And keep in mind the diesel costs hundreds of pounds in cargo capacity because of the weight of the engine.

Picked up my 2021 Cirrus 820 this weekend in SLC. Tipped the scale just over 11,500 lbs with a camper wet weight of 3100 lbs. We drove back to Denver taking US 40 through Vernal, Craig and Fraiser over Parleys, Daniel’s, Rabbit Ears and Berthoud Passes. No problems once we got the airbags dialed in. Maintaining speeds of 60-65 averaged 11.9 mpg on the 7.3l with plenty of power. View attachment 1990
250 or 350?

Back on page 3 I left a link to this spreadsheet, a you tube video on this subject, and a picture of my certification stickers from FORD

My payload listed on the spreadsheet is based on the actual weight of my truck that I got today off the scale subtracted from GVWR. If you don't have that...use the yellow and white sticker number, which for me is 2730.

when you get into gvw in the commercial world....the only thing the DOT cares about is axle weights.....

front axle capacity is 5600 iirc...and rear is 6800 on f350 tremor. . (my buddys identical 2019 f350 Platinum has 7200 lb rear axle btw) so sticker says 11500....but reality its higher with the 2017 and up 50ksi frame.. (ram has been running this since 2010 btw) the old trucks were a 35ksi frame.

some of the gvw are lowered due to drivers license issues in some states.. ( higher gvw can be a different class license )

putting my 2 seat turbo rzr does lift 440 lbs off the tounge...again. im over a lil bit on the rear axle so i am running air bags to make up for the 6800 lb vs the 7200 lb rear axle capacity...with 300 lb of fuel in the bed im at 7300...tire capacity is still 8160lbs so im not worried...as i burn fuel im down to 7010 on the rear axle . which im comfortable with because i know the 4in axle tubes can handle it up to 7200 lbs in other trucks....and up to 12k in a dually application with dual wheels

ymmv

The Airlift rep told me the **399 would not work on the 2020, not sure what the issue was but I think some guys were able to make them work. I was told the **350 was the new model for the 2020 and it went in easy.

not sure the problem....i did not modify them at all except to put daystar cradles in...they bolted right in

Sorry Chad, been offline a couple of days. I am driving an F350 with 7.3l.

Not sure why Airlift reps are having such a hard time with this. I think the issue was the **399 would not fit a stock Super Duty because of the lowered stance Ford went with on the new model, which the Tremor is raised to 17-19 height, so no issues with clearance. I had to grind out the Daystars to clear the lower mount bolt heads, rotated the Airlift spacer block 180 degrees and drill a hole for the Daystar center bolt. Other than that, the **350 went in easily.

Heading out to Lubbock, Texas on Saturday to tow a stock 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited back to Dallas. Will be on a U-Haul bumper pull. I figure 6k max all in. Can't wait to see how it does.

Anyone have any ideas why a 2004 I-6 Jeep would have issues after 3+ hours on the highway losing acceleration and limping into the destination at 35mph stinking of gas fumes. No codes thrown, new plugs, new coils, new cam position sensor, new crank position sensor, new fuel pump. Runs fine off idle.

Wondering 02 sensors or cats?

Ed
I would check the connection at the fuel pump the retaining clip is pretty easy to break on those Jeeps and could be leaking there. My dad had a 03 and it went through 3 fuel pumps in about 75k.
Also could possibly be a failing injector, with high fuel smell. Have had on sticking open injector on a 5.3L Chevy with no code. Eventually filed the cylinder with enough fuel it would not crank.
Good luck.

I had to drill out the center hole & Grind that Daystar cradles LOL same as you..

I meant that the rest of the kit did bolt right in..

if I didn't have the Daystar cradles I wouldn't have to modify anything..

Not the heaviest, but the first load pulled with the new truck. 2 steers @ about 1,100/ea + trailer. Found out the night before that the wire for the brakes was cut and didn’t have time to repair it and the truck brakes did just fine and the ride was great.

I bough the AIrlift 88399 and Daystar Cradles. Drilled out the center on the lower mounts, ground the clearance for bolts on the cradles and it seems to fit perfect. I haven't towed yet but it looks good... glad I found out about the cradles here, seems like a great idea to not kill off road capability.

my goal with the truck is to be able to tow my large toyhauler..and a liteweight popup truck camper....so for leveling with a truck camper i ran individual air lines...then put in a splitter and 1/4 turn shutoff in between the 2...so i can open the valve when towing the toyhauler...and run them individually with the truck camper

I currently have a 350 diesel on order. Im looking to start a handyman side business. Do you guys see any issues with getting one of these, and hauling this around?

I would not be concerned with a trailer under 16K GVWR. I am looking at getting a 14K dump after my Tremor shows up. I am getting the gas and wouldn’t be considered the diesel should pull that without breaking a sweat. You may want to check your states DOT requirements on how heavy you can go before hitting CDL or special licensing requirements since you will be commercial.

Finally a tractor pull.
