Heavy Loads & Hauling with the Tremor

Picked up my 2021 Cirrus 820 this weekend in SLC. Tipped the scale just over 11,500 lbs with a camper wet weight of 3100 lbs. We drove back to Denver taking US 40 through Vernal, Craig and Fraiser over Parleys, Daniel’s, Rabbit Ears and Berthoud Passes. No problems once we got the airbags dialed in. Maintaining speeds of 60-65 averaged 11.9 mpg on the 7.3l with plenty of power. View attachment 1990
You picked a great scenic route. Enjoy your “rig”.

looks great,

how much air were you running, and what bags are you running?

Towed the 311BHS last week for the first time home from a dealer in Cheyenne back to southeast Denver suburbs. 7.3 and 10 speed are a great combination - no issues towing and in fact I feel it exceeded my expectations. The only detractor is low mpg but it’s very capable.

It gets ~11 mpg unladen with my foot at CO highway speeds (75-85 mph) and it got something like 6.5 mpg on the way back at the posted limit with a few passes around idiots, which btw is about half downhill and half uphill from Cheyenne to south Denver, probably -1000 ft to the low point north of Denver and close to +1000 ft gained to the north edge of the Palmer Divide where I live.

I left it in tow/haul the whole time, at first limited it to only 8th gear and below, but after watching trans temps (peak of 223f) and knowing the 10 speed is capable of handling temps, I then let the computer do its thing in all gears. I'm guessing it's capable of 7-8mpg with more gentle cruise control usage and/or east of here.

Are all Tremors 4.30 or is that just gas?

Airlift 5000 Ultimate Plus with Daystar cradle and WirelessAir, Sumo 1000# on the front.

I re-inflated the rear tires to 80 psi first. I only had 1-1/2 inch sag with 5 psi, 50 psi pushed the back end up 1/2 inch above unloaded height but still had some top heavy sway in the wind Friday afternoon. Went to 55 and reduced the sway but made the rear hop a bit on rough pavement.

I can live with the bounce over the sway, pretty happy with the setup.

I’ve been running 89 non ethanol from the Murphy in Elizabeth or Sinclair 91 and been getting much better mileage than that with your twin. I got 15 mpg in Eco mode running out to SLC on I70 and my wife kept telling to slow down and 12 on the way back max payload as noted above. I haven’t loaded the 5 star Tunes yet for performance and heavy tow.

Thinking about a Hellwig adjustable rear swaybar but not yet committed. Don’t want to give up off-road articulation but I may spend more time hauling than crawling.

What kind of air bags did you use I tried getting airlift and it says it won’t work on a tremor

I talked to Airlift directly, the part number is 89350 for the Loadlifter 5000 Ultimate Plus. That’s the only model they have for the 2020 Super Duty.

They went in pretty easy. I did use the Daystar cradle so it was two pieces which made install a little easier since the bag isn’t bolted to the bottom mount. I mounted the bottom brackets first then compressed the bag by hand and slid it into the cradle and bolted to the frame mount. The axle carriage bolts are barely long enough. Without the cradle you will need full droop of the axle to get them in as one piece.

Super nice rig! Congrats on the Cirrus 820. I have a 2020 and the 2021s are much better. Nucamp tweeked all the small issues of the 2020s and yours will be great. Now the next issue!!!! The antennas on the roof are blanked out by the camper. I said "antennas" as in two. The older models like my F250 had one that some people re-positioned by moving them down towards the hood area. But for 2020 no one has a solution yet that I have been able to find. The issue is that the Tremor has GPS, SiriusXM, and ATT Celluler. How can those be re-positioned and still get all those services? I am going to contact Ford and ask them. I found a service bulletin that may help.

The white on white looks great, this is what the Tremor is made for. So far, loving the Nucamp. Got a 5 day trip to Pagosa Springs in 2 weeks. We’ll put it through trials then.
I didn’t notice any major issues with GPS coming back from SLC but now that you mention it a couple of times we did seem to get off track.
We seldom listen to SiriusXM, instead have everything downloaded to our music library. I like the ability to use Gaia GPS through CarPlay. I have most of the western US downloaded to my iPad and can use those maps and routes when off-road. I will check to see if the cab over interferes with the iPad GPS.
Keep us posted on the relocation of the antennas.

Hooked our ancient travel trailer to the tremor for the first time. The old F-150 would Cry tears of blood everytime I did t it. The super duty just laughed at me.

Hitched my TT for the first time tonight. On my F150, I used weight distribution bars to level the truck and trailer. On my Tremor, after lowering my ball, the truck and trailer are basically level. The rear truck wheel well is an inch or so higher than the front. Do you all think I need the weight distribution bars still?

@Rich Pune - Great question. I towed mine for the second time and still don't have the right shank. :( The bars literally hang and carry no weight currently. On my equilizer hitch they provide both weight distribution (don't need it in my case) and sway control. I was planning to use them since they are paid for and can help with sway. But I am learning as well.

The trailer and bed were empty. Between water and gear, I’ll probably have 1,100 more pounds. So I’ll remeasure this Friday.

Probably not a need, but I like how mine tows better with them in use.

Hey guys, thinking of swapping my 2016 F-250 for a 20 F-250 Tremor, looks like the Air Lift w/cradle is the way to go. I have a 30IKS Genesis Supreme 5th and was wondering about that...around 2500ish pin weight. How bad do they squat without the bags?

Air bags in the rear or all stock?

that pic was all stock, no water and nothing in the rear toybox...truck was on the helper springs......

interestingly, i put airbags in....but when i loaded it with water and my rzr, it took 500 lbs off the pin weight. ..and the truck was off the overloads by 1 in....i added a 1in front spacer that still leaves a lil rake....with 25 to 30 lbs in the bags the truck will sit level..this pic is with no air in the rear
