I doubt anyone can answer but once ford issued the 2021 f150 update why wouldn’t they just issue it to the 2022 superduty with the same setup? Could there really be major differences they need to vet in the 2022 superduty before issuing or is this some weird hierarchy or different departments in ford not working together?? Doesn’t at face value make sense (along with lots of other things but this is a software update).

Fords software updates for sync 4 are like their ordering a new vehicle process, theres no rhyme or reason.

Ford babies/gives precedence to the F150 platform as it's largely a consumer item equivalent to a smartphone now days.

But if it’s software and the systems are the same why wouldn’t it just deploy across the board? Or do they want the F150 crowd to feel privileged for a bit or something rather silly like that? IE is there a technical reason they can’t just deploy to the 2022 superduty immediately?

Sync 4 in the Super Duty is a different architecture than the 'real' one in the F150 (which also uses Sync 4). It's more of a bastardized Sync 4, if you will, in our trucks.

correct we are a cobbled together mess in the 22 SD, where the F150, MME, Bronco are all FNV. only thing we share with the F150 is the GWM, our APIM is different and I think the screen might be a little different too.

Is the camera resolution the same? I assume so.

As it currently is, it's a wonder it even works at all.

Gotcha, a legit reason based on what they issued. Weird to not capitalize on the designs they already had in the F150 though in making the 2022 superduty. Because this thread sure makes it seem like some of those parts would have worked…

My understanding is that it was a stopgap measure in order to compete with RAM, since Ford already had the new tech in development for the '23 model year done in tandem with the '21 F150. It's all pre-planned in order to get more people to buy into a new model year.

why give the 22(an out going design) all the cool goodies when you can sell it to people in a 23? Me personally, ill attempt to put 23 interior along with the FNV into my 22 before I buy a 23. and then right after that ill have to figure out how to get the android automotive working in the truck lol

I confirmed I do not have the power-up update in my software this morning, and that the truck states I am "up to date" with automatic updates set to "on".

So I love threads like this, but I also hate threads like this - because there are items I learn I never knew I wanted - and now I want it. It's hard to be American.

How do you install this new hardware? Do I have to remove the center console/screen?

I just checked and I got the Power-Up Software update. Sweet tits! Hopefully they roll out the full screen Android Auto soon. As I really don't want to, but, like Vermonster it's an upgrade that I didn't know that I needed. HaHa

Contracts!

Are you on auto update or manual update? Just curious....

Good to know @slowninja14

Some say - if you press your brake pedal while you have upfitter switch #3 "on" (rear passenger seat belt locked if you do not have upfitters), pull your headlight stalk back, and activate the horn for 30 minutes it will force an update. Let me know if this works for anyone.
