Full screen carplay? YUP

I got this off ebay it was for an F150 12" screen from Replacement radios(thats the seller). I kept watching till I found one in my price range that I was willing to spend(200 was my max that I was willing to experiment with).

I punched this PN into eBay and I'm finding quite a few similar ones, but all the descriptions say "2021 f150 with 12" screen"

Is there any real difference between these or is it just finding one that came from a '21 f150 with a 12" screen?

maybe im mis reading your question? It has to come from a sync 4 F150 with 12" screen theres absolutely a difference between the 8 and 12" version APIM

So I looked on eBay again. Found 2 with the same part number you listed with the exception of the last 3 letters, which had me questioning which one to get.

Then I decided to just go to replacementradios.com and I saw the exact part number, which cleared a lot of things up.

lol all good i was very confused. ok you see the last picture you posted? if it has all those connections its a 12" screen one and will work as far as I know.

carplay/android auto is built into your smart phone and basically turns your screen into a phone

sync 4 is fords newest sync system(debut on the mustang mach e if i remember right in 2021 along with the 21 F150 and soon will be replaced by android automotive(not to be confused with android auto).

APIM= Accessory protocol interface module(I think). it controls your radio and a whole host of other things in the vehicle.

If/When Ford rolls out the updates it shouldnt be an issue with the stock APIM. I cant update this one(the F150 one unless I send it out to be updated). If Ford ever releases an official update that has all the features I just gained I will swap my old APIM in and update it.

As a side note I got a power up update on 12/5/22 for the GWM. So with that said, Ford is doing something but who knows what kind of update it will be. I was told by the person that did the F150 APIM update for me that getting the GWM power up update is a pre requisite to the APIM getting updated so someday maybe an APIM update will come .

I just ordered my 21 f150 APMI today. Once it gets here, may I contact you JHforman812 to help me send it out to get programmed? Any help would be appreciated.

I have no answer on this, im in the someday category. ive had my truck since sept 2021 and have never gotten an update. no super duty has. theres also no guarantee that when they update youll get full screen carplay etc. the F150 guys from 2021 just got full screen and theyve had a ton of updates sent out between 2021 and now. so I wasnt holding my breath and jumped. if an update comes out, ill swap my SD APIM into the truck and let it do the update if and only if it has all the features I just gained.

@JHForman812 I’m intrigued by your posts. Excuse the ignorance, you reference full screen CarPlay but from your photos the map is still only 2/3. Can you clarify what you mean by full screen?

Also, how difficult is it to access and or replace the APIM? Is it essentially plug and play and once installed we don’t install future updates?

if you connect your carplay to your sync 4 youll see you get 8" of carplay and 4" of ford junk. now with this APIM carplay takes up the whole 12" if I tap on maps in carplay it fills the whole screen minus the small upper status bar and the lower climate menu. the same applies to android auto this isnt just an apple thing but im an apple user.

as for the APIM, after you get it updated(Jesse at infotainment did this for me), its plug and play then you have to use forscan to turn the unreal engine on and the climate bar. but those are easy to do. as for software updates, no you wont get any new ones but this is the latest and greatest, I am happy with the software im running now. When/if ford catches the 22 super duty up to this level I will put my factory APIM back in and update it but I think its gonna be awhile before we 22 SD buyers see anything significant.

Just to clarify, this idea will only work with a MY22, Sync 4 and the 12” screen. The rest of us with the lowly Sync 3 and 8” screens are out of luck…

this thread only applies to sync 4 12" screen.

with that said, sync 3 guys can upgrade to sync 4 but it will still be an 8" screen. the biggest benefit here is if youre a caplay/AA user is the wireless connection. im not 100% sure if you lose any fordpass functionality. I stopped looking into this because I have a fusion with sync 3 and wanted sync 4 but my fusion doesnt have the ability to select floor, or vent or defrost from the HVAC control and sync 4 8" doesnt have a climate menu. the super duty and the F150 have buttons to select floor/vent/defrost so sync 4 is possible for you guys.

look in your forpass and see if you got a power up update. that is supposedly the precursor needed to update the APIM, who knows when ford will roll out an APIM update though.
