FUEL/DIESEL TANK UPGRADE/SWAP

A little off topic: Do you all use any additive or cleaner now that you have a larger tank? Im not looking for any recommendation on product, I know there are many threads. More just wondering if you all are adding it in and at what measurement? example: archoil ar6400-d says 1 bottle for 30-40 gallons. Would you put feel comfortable putting 2 bottles?
I'm currently not. I'm at 128K+ miles and have warranty until 199K so prob not going to push additives unless dealership says to. I don't recall reading anything on S&B about doing it, but admittedly I wasn't looking for that either.

I've been running the Titan 55gal tank in my truck for over 20K miles with zero issues.

I add according to how much fuel I feel I'm going to pump. My idash tells me my fuel percentage so I do the math, I'm within 2 gallons usually. I have a 60gal S&B. I always add the additive before I pump so it will mix better.

Optilube provides a scale on the side of the bottle, I use it base on 60 gallons as it's 8-16oz depending climate and strength of dose. I use a about 14oz each will up bc it's easily read.

I have hardly ever run tank near empty, especially with fuel prices
Yesterday I was in south Texas, saw diesel for 3.29, went ahead and topped off as diesel in my area was 3.59

Come on out to the communist state of CA. Diesel here is $5.19 if you are lucky. I’ve seen it around $5.99 and when you’re in the mountains $7’ish isn’t rare. They really screw us i. This state with regulations and taxes!

I would just dose it based on what you're planning to put in. If it's roughly half a tank then half the dosage. You can't really overdose just diminishing returns and wasted $

This is what I have been doing based on what I am putting in the tank. Just didn't know if I was putting too much or too little because I also fill up when I see the Diesel dip. Thanks for the replies!

Gotcha, but really what's the advantage of adding stuff? Better MPG, Better running, Maintenance? Just not sold on it for fairly new rigs until they get 150K+ on them and possibly some heavy hauling.....

The big thing is lubricity, fighting algae (if you don't burn the fuel fast enough), water demulsifier, and antigel for those in climates effected by such. Sure a small bump in Cetane is nice but just like any other "octane" boosters, that's probably harder to substantiate.
  • Our fuel, ultra low sulfur, does not have the lubricity it use to and the CP4 is lubed and cooled by fuel as are the tight tolerances that are our injectors.
  • Water Demulsifiers allow the fuel water separator to work better and assist with separating water from the fuel.
  • Lubricity, having had several 6.0s in a past life, fuel lubrication is quite important, now granted new stuff is manufactured (in theory) to work with this fuel if you've ever looked at and researched diesel fuel injectors, they have extremely tight tolerances and anything that allows the plungers to slide and lubricate and cushion can be drastic improvement for longevity.

Roger that! I drive a lot..... truck is 32 months old and i'm at 125K. I'll start adding at next fill up.... but that's gonna be a min with the big a$$ tank now!

not based on the fact that you are doing almost 4k-mi/mo. How often you doing oil changes lol

Just had the S&B installed and immediately did a 3000 kilometre road trip. This is the best range I've seen so far. 1532km or 952 miles. I'm happy with that. My lead foot seems to prevent me from ever getting more than 18 MPG.

I was wondering about using the iDash as the DTE, as it seems like there’s now good way to adjust the truck’s computer to accurately assess that after the tank swap on 23 & 24 trucks. Is there a better solution?

Wish I lived by the border. Smuggle in fuel to the people’s paradise. This is how East Germans felt before the wall fell.

Are you speaking to the DTE dash calculations?

@Whaler27 : There is an engineering mode when you can make an adjustment to the factor. The issue is you need to monitor your fueling and hand calculate your MPGs. Keep track of those numbers then do a calculation, use that calculation result to enter the new value into the dash when in engineering mode. I've done this for my 2022...my dash ADV MPG and hand collocations are now within 1 MPG of each other, if not closer.

I'll have to find the video again so you can see what I'm getting at.

I did the same middle of last year/late spring last year. Roll in Eco and keep it 68-72 mph, and you'll pick it up from 18 mpg to in the 20's. I've gotten my tank to read 1152 m to E before! When you fill up, let the handle pop, wait 30 seconds or more for the air to settle and then top off. It helps the sensor for some reason.

I don’t know how it would help the sensor, but diesel foams a lot as you fill, especially on a fast-filling pump, so letting it settle makes room for more diesel. I try to use the two-click method.

My new fuel tank goes in next week. Really looking forward to it.
