Data and analysis to find the best oil for the 6.7

Has anyone ever gotten a recommendation from these guys along the lines of “get rid of this vehicle asap as the data shows the engine is about to fail”.
My buddy has sent samples from engines with major issues. The results show it and the wording suggests what to look at to repair it.

Maybe I missed it, but doesn't anyone run Motorcraft oil?
Why or why not?

I just switched back to MC 10w30 in my 2022. Getting off the 5w40 train just to use some stock I have in the garage.
Never had any issues using MC 10w30 in my 2015, going to use it plenty in my 2022.

I consider switching around between good, well known oils a good thing. Each has their own formula if you want to trust that "selling" point. Same with different fuel additives.

Cold sampling.....motor/oil not at operating temps or the "desired" post-operating temp for sampling.

Running Shell Rotella T6 but just became a dealer for Hotshots as the science behind the additives and other fluids has blown me away.

Has anyone run their any of the Hotshots fluids?
I picked up a Bank Diff guard during the group buy and still havent put in on the damn truck as I havent ordered rear diff fluid. As pretty as the diff cover is, Id look better on the truck than on my damn bench.

I'm getting ready for my first oil change, figured I'd start off with MC 15w40 for my environment. A cold winter here is -10 once in a while and up to 100 once in a while. We've used 15w40 in all our logging equipment and trucks for the past 50 years with no problems. Thanks for the feed back HA.

Interesting stuff. Just read through their website and data.

They claim to meet Ford WSS-M2C171-F1 specifications yet I don’t see them listed on the list?

That is on my short list as well. Thoughts on it?
Been using it for years in my 6.0s and on a couple oil changes now on the 6.7. It works well, I have a couple UOA from Blackstone showing it's decent.

I thought the same thing too. I think there are a few oils that meet the spec but ford hasnt added yet? Not an expert.

What made me super interested to learn more about Hotshot's what hearing the episode that the Truck Show Podcast did with them. I have used Archoil for some time but there isnt much info on Archoil. Hotshot's FR3 which you can add to any oil, or is pre-added in their own stuff is fascinating.

Some do, I don't. Not because I have a problem with Motorcraft oil, just that it's overpriced. The 10w30 and 15w40 Diesel oil is just straight conventional, on the low end it costs $6/quart. I can get full synthetic T6 for that price. And the full synthetic Motorcraft 5w40 works out to around $12/quart, hell no.

With a gas engine it might not be so bad.

I've heard speculation that Ford might require some process and/or fee to be included in the list. For that reason some oils that claim to meet Ford spec don't care to be on the list. Also, nowhere does Ford say you must use an oil that is on their list, just that you should use an oil meeting the spec.

Amsoil is also not listed as an approved oil for Ford, even though Amsoil list their oil as "exceeds the CK-4 spec"

Has really nothing to do with how good the oil is and more so with paying the associated fees to be on their approval list.

I put in Rotella T6 0w40 for this winter since I plan to do some arctic travel and will likely find -40F weather.

I got this sample back. I had to change it a little earlier than expected so only found 0F weather on this oil. I did do some heavy hauling on it for about 1500 miles, then a few thousand of highway, about a month of around town, finishing off with around 1000 miles of highway.

I put in more 0W40 after this and still have around 2k remaining on it.

Here’s my most recent:
First two are FoMoCo oils, most recent Triax. Air filter was two years in needing a cleaning (higher silicon reading) also keep in mind I’m a terrible diesel owner my drive currently it’s 10mi roughly to work. I paid a little extra for soot and TBN results. Def think a good bypass filter would help if we’re planning to do long OCI.

Soot levels become important at higher OCI as they’re abrasive and can clog ports.
