Marylandastan just raised our gas tax ANOTHER c ents for a total of...... 46.6 cents per gallon. Commies.

Wow. That’s awful. Almost as bad as Portland Oregon, where the total state and local tax is 50 cents per gallon. (The gubmint tried to push that to 56 cents per gallon last spring, but got spanked at the polls. We still expect the rate to climb this year.).

I filled up at Shell in Harrisburg, Oregon two days ago at $6 per gallon for diesel.

But at least the property taxes are insane and the state and local income tax in Portlandia is only 12.9% on top of the federal income tax. (Oregon also “decoupled” from the federal tax code to deny residents the benefit of recent improvements in the federal tax code). For that you can have terrible public schools (46th in USA), terrible property crime, lousy roads, an average of 285 “protests” per year (very few turn into riots), a persistent gang problem, bums camped on sidewalks and under every overpass, garbage and graffiti along all the highways, and the lowest police officer staffing in the USA. But at least weed is cheap, possession of heroin, meth, or crack isn’t penalized, and we fund the “arts” and “free preschool for all”.

Oregon is determined to make even California look smart.
