Oh I could tell you stories about trucks and RV’s following gps directions & end up where they should not go

We had GPS in the 1st gulf war, but a map and compass was much more reliable even if it was a photo copy of a old old old outdated map lol

Peoples beliefs in theses devices are bizarre and they totally ignore DOT signs cuz the gps said so
I agree 100%.

My GPS told me when I left a hotel to go left into a dead-end-street every morning but I'm clever and after the 10th times I didn't believe the GPS anymore.
OK, it was after the second time, because second time I thought maybe I too stupid and it's not a dead-end-street but it was.

Do you know what's really funny?!? Use your GPS in an area where you know the place very good and than listen what the GPS is telling you.
Of course it depends on the settings... NO freeway ...NO Toll ...etc.
When you than listen to the GPS sometimes I am thinking, where the hell wants the GPS go.

Another time I enter the address from a hotel into the GPS and no chance to find the hotel. On the map itself it was easy to find.

I understand what you mean and again, I agree.

But the opposite: I drove a lot of times from one city to another and I knew the way. My GPS told one day suddenly another way.
I didn't listen to the GPS and end in a bumper traffic jam. The GPS knew that an offered me detour.
And very often on a freeway the GPS suddenly told me to exit and the most time there was an traffic jam on the freeway miles further away.

Go a few miles off pavement away from the highway:)
I do not venture too far off the highway when towing a 42’ L x 13’ 6” H, 16K lb fifth wheel, which is the only reason I bought the RV GPS. It lets me set the height, length, weight and number of propane tanks of my setup to keep me off of roads that will get me into trouble.

EDIT: As you mentioned in a subsequent post, I always pay attention to real signs, as they are more accurate than GPS software concerning local road situations.

May I ask you which GPS do you use?
After reading in this forum I am more and more convinced to buy a simple RV(!) GPS and do the rest with much cheaper apps on a phone/iPad.

Looks great! I was surprise because I don't see any wire but I am sure after you already installed the onBuilt Dash Mounts you found a solution for your wire.

RV 890 is one I could live with. Yesterday I read a lot reviews about the Garmin Overlander but it's to expensive ($699) and 50% of this GPS I will never us. With app on my phone I will maybe 90% never us.

And during my search for a GPS I just found this video about dash cams which I also want to use:
Maybe the video is helpful for somebody else.
Dash cam: When you use a dash cam yourself drive more defensive because you record your driving, too.
Main reason for a dash cam: It's a "discussion accelerator" and/or "opinion change makers" :D
Usually I am using a dash cam in front and back.

Yes, all of my wires go into a dash mounted power point wired into the passenger side fuse panel under the glove box.

This is really  (y)

When I compare this with my cable clutter....

But now, I have a picture and know how it's works (y)
I saw already a video for this dash mount which looks easy even for a pencil pusher and this other stuff I am learning currently at RVtechcourse/National RV Training Academy.
At the moment I only know if you touch something with power it hurts. 🤓

reading all the replies I am now thinking with the weather updates the $80 a year might work. Does it get the updates through the Sirius system, is that the antenna? , will I get weather updates with truck camper top covering the top of the cab? Their is an optional remote Sirrus antenna that can be mounted on the camper.
Thx ahead of time

Don’t know for sure, but believe one of the pucks on the rear cab is for SiriusXM and the other is for GPS/Sync. I would guess a cab over camper would impede both in a similar fashion. I use the live traffic and weather radar all the time on trips, we’ll worth the $80/yr to me.

The GPS or map works fine with the slide camper on! It's the weather and stuff?

Again, I don’t know any of this to be fact, but seems illogical for SiriusXM to carry the live weather and traffic. What if you didn’t continue the SiriusXM subscription? There may be some members that don’t have SiriusXM, but do have the live sync services that could clarify for us.

It’s possible that you couldn’t have the live Sync traffic/weather without SiriusXM, I just haven’t seen the connection between the two and I have both, so not a good test case.

Yea maybe a third antenna using a different source?
