Connected Navigation Subscription Required

While I agree with this common sentiment around subscription based functionality, they’ve done the analysis and know that $80 for someone that paid $80-90k won’t be a strong deterrent. Yes some will resist out of principle, but most that value the service will pay up (like me). It’s all just math for the manufacturers.

Now if Ford was smart, and we all know they are not. That $80 a year would get you the same features that the Garmin gives you for towing.
I will pay it to have the convenience, also $80 a year compared to the cost of the vehicle is chump change. Also having the ability to use the maps in the middle of no man’s land is a huge plus for my job and hobbies.

Nope, that's the way it is now unfortunately... The map is still usable as a map, no more, no less.

Some have chosen to pay the $80/yr. I bought a standalone Garmin RV GPS, which I wanted anyway for when we get a TT. For non towing usage I just use Google Maps via Android Auto when necessary. I really don't use Nav that often so it wasn't a big deal to me. The idea of it bothered me more than the actual impact.
I am doing exact the same. Using Google maps/ Apple maps and I will also buy a Garmin RV GPS "Overlander" (Garmin Overlander All Terrain Navi) because I am getting my TT 24KRS end of October (y)

$80 for the Ford Navi? Ford want that you keep in touch with Ford so make sure they can use there spy software Fordpass and the customer shall pay for the data transfer.

Has been discussed here:

Maybe it's just me, but the Ford nav is clunky at best, and I seem to have a hard time finding POIs, which I hardly ever do with Google, Waze or Apple Maps. I will definitely not be paying this subscription.

For those using RV GPSs, is it really worth the cost? I have traveled across the country and never got myself into an area I couldn't navigate. But maybe there are certain areas of the country where there are more issues for RVs than others?

I was pissed to find out the Navigation is a subscription. I don't use nav very often so I'm not going to pay for it. The couple times I used Goggle maps through car play it has screwed up. It works fine until I get a phone call or a text then it locks up. Have to unplug phone and restart maps then plug it back it for it to work. Pretty sad how with all of the electronic advances they can't seem to keep the simple crap working!

Ok one last thought, when did this program start? Could I write a letter, if it started after June 17, 21 when I ordered the truck? Just a thought

This started with the release of the MY2022 and Sync 4. The information was always available from Ford. The higher trims have both, built in and subscription based Nav. With those, when the subscription runs out, the buillt in can still be used.

Thanks, so that 86th that idea. I will just use CarPlay. Everything is so backwards these days

Unfortunately you are not wrong. I paid for it - Carplay can duplicate the built in nav system functionality but for Carplay to work you have to enable Siri and location services on your phone, 2 features I prefer to leave turned off. I also prefer the Ford nav interface. I wish they'd come out with a lifetime subscription option - fundamentally I just don't like having to subscribe to features and would pay a couple more bucks just to have it work permanently.
Reason I won't use Apple products, I have an android for the freedom to modify and use my device as I feel fit. I already have Google, so it has my information it's selling for me to use their services. I agree a one time price for lifetime would certainly be enticing and would likely do that. I can't get past how Garmin you purchase and get lifetime map updates for the device but you spend 70k plus and get nickled and dimed. I do agree the interface is nice.

I love ford navigation, use it daily on my commutes. So much simpler and cleaner to use. Has been 100% accurate on local traffic, zero issues to date.

And what’s 80$ on an 80K truck - .01% convenience fee i’m happy to pay.

I disagree, just because someone spent x amount of dollars for something doesn't mean they don't have the intelligence to know when they are being taken advantage of. I'm middle class like allot of Ford customers, I'm frugal and don't have the funds to just throw at subscriptions every year indefinitely. I pay for the quality, features and capability of my truck. There are plenty of other cheap or cost effective options out there. You could have a Garmin for 2 years of Fords subscription. If Ford really thought that they would address the crux of all their vehicles which is Sync it may possibly be the worst slow, buggy and laggy system I have used, not subscribing to that experience. I have experienced every version of Sync and I think they have added a number for everytime they made it less stable.

Everyone from Adobe photoshop to BMW heated to now my onboard map! Are you kidding me, I have to pay to put a waypoint in my truck! This is just wrong, unless I am wrong, that really pisses me off.
Please someone tell me I am wrong,
Thanks

What are you talking about??

Adobe photoshop, BMW heated??? And a onboard map???

I’m totally confused

Why buy yet another stand alone device when Gaia GPS is a excellent product & works across several platform? I have it on computer, notebook and iPhone & use it in the truck on the big screen linked to my phone

But I also use Waze as well as Apple Maps depending.

Only time I use the trucks clunky navigation is when we are way out of cell range as a backup but Gaia uses the phones GPS or I can link it to the Garmin Inreach Mini if warranted

And the Inreach Mini doubles or triples as a tracker when we are off grid for family as well as a means of communication and has a emergency beacon if needed

Couldn’t disagree more, I too have owned every prior version of Sync and Sync 4 blows away all prior versions. Never had a single issue, lockup, blackout, etc with my MY 21 or MY22. To each their own and we vote with our wallets. God bless America for that freedom!!

Sounds like you made the perfect decision for your opinion of the system.

Thanks A LOT for your Input!!

I am still a rookie with pickup trucks and travel trailer. First BIG car/truck in the US, first travel trailer.

I just check a lot videos and review about Garmin Ovelander and I decided I will NOT buy it.
Like you mentioned it's not worth this extra device for $700

My new "plan" buying a "cheaper" GPS for door to door navigation where I can enter my truck/trailer combination.
Additional I will try some apps for my phone and my future iPpad or something else.

I will also check you other recommendations step by step.

I am still not this 'mobile' enthusiast, connected any time anywhere. OK, when I start boondocking it has to change o_O:D

Again, thx for your very helpful input!
