Bumper repair/replacement

Great. Don’t know their Texas team, but the Oregon folks are great, and there are lots of testimonials from people who have struck big mule deer without destroying their trucks. The bumpers are heavy duty.

The "full protection" bumper dilemma has intrigued me for years. I know a lot of farmers, ranchers, and logging outfit owners and have asked most of them about this at one point or another over the years. None of the logging outfit owners I know will use this style bumper on their crummies anymore, and almost every farmer and rancher I know doesn't like them either. Too many have had trucks got totaled out (frame horn damage) that would have otherwise been repairable. Those impact forces have to go somewhere, and the well-made full-coverage bumpers make the frame horns the next weakest link on larger impacts.

Not saying I agree or disagree because I think they could help protect against smaller impacts, but it's something to be aware of that I hadn't seen mentioned in here yet.

I pulled a bumper off my 20 when it was new. Would love to get rid of it.

Interesting perspective for sure

Back to considering an oem takeoff replacement for now. I can get one for around $600 and do the work myself.

Aftermarket I keep either compromising to keep costs lower or the bumpers I really want start getting super expensive when I have to add aftermarket lights and can’t use the factory fogs.

I would rather get what I really want and not settle, but 4-5K for front bumper with lights and install is a no go right now unfortunately

I feel the stock bumper with light bars looks clean, just no real protection. I searched and searched, the bumper I wanted at the time was unobtainable and extremely cost prohibitive at the time. Even now I would shudder to spread the cabbage out for it. But it is still one of my favorites. The Fabfours is a clean and great looking bumper. I got a rebate on it and 5% back on amazon all in it was a justifiable expense. I had already replaced the non fog light bumper with a fog light one. I just didn't want to go through the same ordeal again at the time. Looking back a rough country winch mount and factory light bar I would be just as happy!

Well crap, my BIL is a bad influence on me, and convinced me to buy once cry once here 😂. He said he would help me install so that alleviates some of my concerns.

Now deciding between Fab Four Matrix without pre-runner/guard, or Matrix with pre-runner.

I sent Fab Four a few questions, would like to confirm the flood/fog lamps in bumper use factory harness do they are controlled by the truck like today.

Would like to save some money for now and not do the 30in light bar, but if it requires me to pull the bumper back off down the road, then I’ll do it now

The light bar for ease of use will have to be a rigid, others don't fit worth a shit! I took my ill fitting one out and just went 2 lp9's I like this look much better. Also light have back lighting with low/high function. I built a harness to accommodate a third lp9, thinking a pro spot for those long range times. I have 2 pair of rigid sae amber and clear I am putting back in the bumper fog pockets. My lp4's are going to be repurposed.

Pre-runner version may be out of consideration. Looks like it would interfere with camera, the matrix pre-runner for the 2022 states 360 camera compatible with minor obstruction. The 2024 version doesn’t call out the 360 camera at all

In case others have a similar question later, Fab Four sent this pic of the interference from the pre-runner bar but notes doesn’t cause any errors or issues

Yeah, I probably traveled forward 3-4 feet

Devil’s advocate here, but...

I’d take care of it sooner than later.
