Built-Right vs. Bullet Point dash mount

Wasn’t sure if there was an easily accessible switched circuit right under the mounting location - thought guys found one on the 22- trucks. Would be awesome to make a custom harness to avoid splicing factory wiring or running more cable than necessary. I try to avoid fuse taps and splicing whenever possible.

I like that idea! @trmrzla

Might be able to come up with something....

Let me take a look!

Anyone ever find a solution or something like a silencer you’d have on a compound bow to isolate the mount from vibration? My Rubigrid vibrates like crazy due to the frequency the truck vibrates at idle. Was thinking about making a compound bow style silencer and using the same hardware to mount it to the back half of my mount to see if having big enough dampener coins on a tube would help isolate this issue.

I wonder if this would help you.

Yeah I was looking at that, did some at home testing with something similar but that would impede my dash with my phone and my phone, so I definitely need to keep it at the height it sits at. Those are great if it’s from a massive vibration like if you’re rock crawling but not ideal to solve this type of vibration issue, doesn’t isolate much, just transfers it equally from the base to the rubber stubby and back into the dash, need something that genuinely expends energy in order to take the vibration out

I’m wondering what the source of the vibration is. I have a built right base attached to bulletpoint arms and don’t seem to have a vibration issue. So I’m wondering if it could be rooted in the rubigrid not being as snug more so than vibration from the truck. I guess there could be a lot of variables… speed, road, tires, etc.

I’ve got a Rubigrid and a BuiltRight installed in two different trucks. The BuiltRight base is night and day more secure. I’m not a fan of the Rubigrid at all.

It’s 100% from the nature of how the truck shakes at idle, from what I understand it ranges from 12-18Hz which seems to track, because the moment my finger touches the mount it goes away or my phone is in it or I begin driving again after sitting at a light or whatnot, but it’s one loud son of a gun when I’m not touching it and don’t have my phone in it. But once any of those other conditions are met, it’s solid. I believe it comes from the hardcore rigidity of the mount itself. The energy has nowhere else to go, so it goes to the outer most point of where the energy travels and that is the phone and iPad brackets where they get snugged into. Just like an antenna is going to have a lot of vibration because it’s the focal point where energy from the truck shaking and moving can be expended out via the antenna moving. Just like old corvettes use to have those metal antennas and they were always buzzing around like a pissed off hornet. Same idea just on a smaller scale, because the engine has the engine mounts, cab bushings, dash and plastic to go through before it can send those vibrations up to my phone mount. And on the slightest occasion my knee panel where my headlight dial is will rattle but that’s far less annoying than this one lmao.

I went to Home Depot hoping to get some neoprene material to cut washers out of to slide onto the arm pole but they didn’t have that, nor husky hush tape, or anything in regard to sound dampening so I guess I’m going online to just order it and wait until it comes in.

I’ll keep y’all updated as I get the materials in and get a solid design to work! In the meantime I’ll play around with random materials I have at home lol.

2025 Tremor. I have the BR with a ram ball mount and arm. Quad lock mag mount to connect to my Iphone. I am surprised how much I like having that molle panel and mount. The magnetic mount is so easy to snap the phone in and it holds it well in all terrain so far. Planning to add another ball to mount a radio.

I wish I would have done a search on this topic before I bought my Bulletpoint system. It seems like, from the points made in this thread that the BuiltRight is a better mount than the Bulletpoint. I just took a look at the return policy for the Bulletpoint and they are 30 days. I just finally opened my boxes up yesterday and I am just outside of the 30 day return policy that they have. They seem to be pretty solid on that policy.

The vibration issue on the Bulletpoint system seems to be a problem where as the BuiltRight does not seem to have that problem. I could install the Bulletpoint but I am trying to figure out if I should try to sell my Bulletpoint system on EBay or something like that and then buy the BuiltRight system.

Does anyone have any thoughts that they are willing to share?

Thanks

Zero vibration issues with the Bulletpoint panel in mine and haven’t heard of it being an issue but I’m also not running much weight on it.

I have the Bulletpoint as well, and have not had any vibration issues. In fact, it is rock solid. Since you can’t return it, no harm in installing it and then determining if you actually have issues. Very possible that you won’t have issues like many others.

Thanks to both of you for the positive input. I believe it will be worth trying it out.

One thing I was thinking was in these install videos that I have watched, several make note that they break some of the mounting clips when they remove the panel. Then they note that they reinstall even though they have broken mounting clips. I was just wondering if having broken clips on the panel would make the vibrations more possible. I do not know but just doing some speculation. It is winter here in NJ. It has been pretty cold not getting above freezing for the past couple of weeks. This week it has warmed up and currently we are getting some rain. I figured if I am going to install it now I want to have the cab pretty good and warm to remove the panels and to do it carefully and hope that I do not brake any of the clips. That seems to be a real challenge. I have a Lariat with the speaker so I will remove the speaker before removing the panel. We will see how it goes.

The broken clips make a lot of sense as the reason for the vibration. If that is the cause, it would happen with either mount. I did not break any clips during my install, but I am in Az, and I know it was at least 70 degrees when I installed mine. Good luck on the install, I think pre-warming the cab is a good idea.

While i think i've complained about the Bulletpoint mount moving before... i'm not sure i can objectively say its the mount itself.

I havent tried it yet but have kicked around the idea of making a backer plate similar to what BR makes. Kicked around just 3d printing it, honestly but... the BP mount is steel so... it moving seems unlikely. I think any vibrations/movement people see is due to the entire cubby moving. Lets be honest, its mounted to a piece of plastic that wasnt designed to have a SL mini attached to it :P

One thing i did to try to help stiffen things up was to line the inside lip that the cubby rests on with felt tape. This is also to help prevent any noise that might get generated from any movement. When i bought this stuff on amazon it came with a few rolls so i've been using it on anything i touch in/near the dash :P

On my old truck (2020), the Builtright panel worked great. On the new truck (2025), I ran into some installation issues and ultimately ended up sending it back.

I’m running the Bulletpoint system in both my Bronco and my Tremor and have no complaints. I did have a minor vibration issue at first, but it turned out to be the arm vibrating up against the dash. I added one of their wire clips from the cable management kit, and that solved it.
