Welp, if you're truck is built and you're waiting on delivery, it might be awhile...

NEW FORD DELIVERIES POSSIBLY IMPACTED BY RAIL CAR SHORTAGE

My truck was just now delivered to the dealership after leaving Kentucky 8 weeks ago. I rarely received updates and am wondering if something could have happened to cause the delay. Ie damage that was repaired etc. I really want this truck but something just doesn't make sense. We could have pushed it to New Hampshire in 8 weeks. Any feedback or direction is welcomed. Thanks. Rail is generally longer transit times than Convoy(truck) since it has more steps in the process. There are so many things that caused delays, one could be weather as there have been some major storms blowing through the East the last few weeks. The holidays could be another as I'm unsure if trains ran on Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years day. Each day adds compounding delays. There could have been delays loading the railcars due to the holidays as the Teamsters likely got days off that the rail unions do not. Also, if it was transferred from one rail carrier to another could create a delay. There are derailments daily in the system that could impact another train needing that track.

Then you have the delivery yard. Depending on volume of vehicles, availability of transport carriers, and then how they schedule transports (in some cases a truck won't go to a dealer unless it has enough for a full load as they don't like having these make multiple stops which are more expensive).

All that to say 8 weeks is on the longer side, but not unheard of. Good news is that now your truck is there! You can ask your dealer what transport damage they found. Some are able to see their trucks right when they arrive, before they go through the pre-delivery inspection (PDI) so they know all that needs to be repaired. There's a high likelihood of scratches that need to be fixed. Major damage they should tell you about, but won't do anything to the price as Ford would still consider it a new truck.

Some of these questions are at times easier to get answers to in person. Regardless, just take your time to do a thorough delivery inspection of your own in good lighting so you can inspect the paint job for flaws or overspray from a poorly prepped repair. Also look at all the plastic trim pieces to confirm none are damaged. Work with your dealer to fix anything you find. If the truck is in acceptable condition then it really doesn't matter what they fixed, if anything.

just got an update from dealer. Its on the train. Was told last week that it was also on the train but had moved east of Louisville to Ashville. dealer said this morning that It is now half way accross IL to Missouri. Thats where its home will be. Wonder how long it takes to get offloaded and then to dealer. Dealer is a 40 minute drive from train drop off in Missouri. Just when you think you are excited to get truck seems like another setback comes along and makes ya wait.

Mine took 16 months, so I eventually (and painfully) learned to not get too excited. Sounds like yours is close, though .

Sometimes they’re in and out in a couple of days, sometimes it’s weeks. Don’t get excited till you hear from your dealer.

Dealer is right across Street from my shop. Ill see it before they call me. Hahah. Most times they unload the vehicles in front of my shop because these super truckers are afraid to back up.

Has nothing to do with backing up. Car haulers often can’t block or park in dealer lots
