Is it that you don't need the external mic or you don't need to leverage the OEM mic because they include the external one. Ideally I wouldn't want to add another microphone if I can avoid it

I asked Autotec this question because I run a Nav TV module for my aftermarket stereo this was their response:

Hi Yes, as long as the system is working with existing system, the new screen will be compatible. Since the new screen does not come with amplifier, it basically use the original system to produce the sound. So if it is working with existing system, it will also work together with the new system as well

I get a very quick audio blip of what sounds like a radio station with people talking. It's just a split second, then my next song starts. It's only when using this steering wheel control, not when I click on the touchscreen unit. Anyone else?

Make sure your phone is not paired with the Ford Bluetooth system - only the AutoTec system. I had issues with the steering wheel controls acting strange, and removing the pairing from the Ford system fixed it

I did that and it still has that glitch. Bizarre.

I ended up purchasing this unit and installed it last night. I seem to have everything working except one item. The sound through the Sync console works perfectly, it comes out of all the speakers. However, the sound from the tablet (when the sync console is not running) only comes out of the tablet. I was looking at the thread and saw something about the wiring in the back, I checked it and I have it installed correctly. Is there a setting that will allow the tablet sound to come out of the truck speakers?

Hmmm seems like it would HAVE to be the wiring. Unless there is a setting on the Android, but I don't know anything about Android. You should note that there are 2-3 different areas with "settings" available on this unit, and all are very different.

I got this installed yesterday - really looks great, seems to be a little buggy. The volume steering wheel controls work fine, however the scroll/track buttons are reversed. Left button goes forward in track, right goes back/starts the track over. I tried to remap the controls in the UI, but that didn't work or didn't take.

I have the same issue a few other people have mentioned - when I start the truck it will play whatever is on the original sync system for a split second. This also seems to happen randomly when I turn up the volume or skip tracks - but again only for a split second. So, apparently on start up and every so often, I'll just deal with a burst of AM/FM radio.

Making calls through CarPlay seems to overwhelm the speaker included with the AutoTec. I have to crank the volume down on phone calls pretty significantly because the included speaker starts to distort. Calls sound just fine through the rest of the B&O system speakers. It also sounds as though the included speaker is only active for calls, I can't hear any distortion when playing music. I may see if I can just pull the included speaker out, if it doesn't cause problems with the system.

Final bug I've come across, and seemingly the most frustrating; the bluetooth connection is unreliable. I'm on an iPhone 13 - I will connect/pair on my phone to the system's bluetooth and the phone will say it is paired while the system spins the "connecting" wheel prompt. The system will then pair but the phone will say it is disconnected. This is primarily with CarPlay. The connection appears to continue to work, I can make calls, play music, use Google Maps, but it still says disconnected from bluetooth on the phone, but connected on the AutoTec. While all this is happening, there is a noticeable lag. Changing a song takes 1 or 2 seconds to register, voice prompt for maps takes 1 or 2 seconds to register, etc.

I'm unsure if this is specifically an iPhone and CarPlay issue or what. I put in a tech support email with AutoTec, so we'll see what they have to say. Overall - it is functional and it is a huge visual improvement over the stock sync 3 system - but there are some significant bugs to put up with for me.

Also, does anyone know if there is a way to access CarPlay through the AutoTec unit if I plug in through the USBs and try wired? I couldn't find anything in going through the system. I'm not super familiar with the Google Play Store, but it doesn't look like there is a CarPlay app available through the store - which I guess is to be expected for a competing platform.

At $624.74 from the link below I just might do it, but do like what I hear about the support from Autotec. I am just not sure it is worth $450 more for support.

Anyone with a 21 and under without sync 4 don't think twice. The unit retains all the factory options and adds alot of features. I was on the fence about all these units until I found the Autotec, it's snappy and faster responding than the stock unit. Absolutely awesome.

I just installed mine into my 2019 F250 this weekend.....and am historically an Apple guy. I know nothing about how to customize using the android-based system. I can't even figure out (in the short time I've had), how to modify the home screen like you have with custom backgrounds....is this an app you use to do this or is there an android for dummies guide ?

People are using Nova Launcher to get more tweaks.

I installed mine a few months ago and I was in the exact same boat. The Android stuff was really foreign to me. I think I used the Nova Launcher and maybe learned from youtube. I basically copied a template from someone else, maybe on this forum, I can't remember.

This is my home screen I created with a photo of my truck. The Ford logo on the far left takes me to the Sync 3 system. The Green box is Apple carplay.

I’m considering on purchasing this for my 21. Does anyone regret buying, if so why. Has anyones gone bad and was it warrantied and how long after the purchase. So confirming you can watch netflix on here, is it full screen, how’s quality. Thx I’ve read several pages on this thread and am trunk to decide.

I bought the 12“ version. I liked the look and the large screen, but functionality was lacking. CarPlay didn’t work with the steering wheel buttons consistently. I found myself rebooting it too often to work around issues.

The biggest problem was the orientation of the screen made it disappear when using polarized sunglasses. Thus was a dealbreaker for. My wife, so I pulled it out and put the Ford system back.

I have to ask, but can we do more than volume and skip with steering wheel buttons in car play? That's all I use them for and then I fingerprint it to death using the meathooks

I'm looking at getting the newest version but so close to Black Friday cyber Monday I'm hesitant lol

The voice command button did not activate Siri - it went to Ford's Sync voice system instead - made it completely useless

But yes, only volume and track are expected to work - and they did.

Mine has no issue with polarized sunglasses. I have the 14.4 inch version.
