Upgrading my tires

View attachment 277830

Forgive me if I've already posted a photo in this thread, but here (again?) are my latest set o' kicks:

37 X 11.5 X 17 NITTO Recon Grappler on a Vision Flow 351 17 X 8.5, +18mm. These tires work well off road as well as on. Have not had them yet in snow.
Nice! I stayed away from NITTO because all that I've read and the tests I've seen done state they are horrible in wet weather and that's what I have to deal with here in FL.

horrible in wet weather

Have read that as well, but have seen more happy reviews than the other way 'round.

I figure the wet weather traction of the Nitto Recon Grappler, like many other tires, is dependent on inflation pressure. Remember, many owners don't geek as hard as we might on their tires' Cold Inflation Pressures. They'll just set pressures to what's on the driver door jamb (always a good decision, yes, when the lack of case-specific info is lacking) which in our case is 60 psi front / 75 psi rear?

Let's roll on bricks! baby, whereas 40 psi Cold Inflation Pressure nets a completely different traction level. (y)

I run 45 front and 50 rear on my AT4W

285x75R18 is practically a 35" tire. The stock DuraTrac are 35.1" with an 11.3" cross section width.
Good catch, Silverghost, and thanks for the numbers. You're right that the stock 285/75R18 is already basically a 35 tall, so going to a 35x12.50R18 is mostly a width change, not a height one. Knecoli22, that's probably the more useful way to look at it for your garage.

In fact, most 35x12.5x18 are actually less than 35" tall. Tire manufacturers generally round up from 34.5". The stock Duratracs are taller than most aftermarket 35s. Thus, you know what to do.... 37.

Ha, you're not wrong, wessermgm. 37s are definitely on the list for mine, so it's just a matter of when.
