Truck Campers Only, w/ an Overland & Off-roading theme

Luckily for me WTX is a lot closer to the mountains than CenTex or the Hill Country. I can be in Lincoln National forest in 3 hours, or Carson in 4.5. The San Juan’s are about 7 hours for me. Being that WTX is a drive to get anywhere I pretty much think of it as a semi quick drive. I don’t mind leaving early and getting there in time for a late lunch. I’m hoping to be a trout bum for a few months come next spring. Lol
I am out here in WTX almost weekly and have been last 20+ years. Grew up in Lea County so I am familiar with all you mention. I sure miss the BLM land and it is a hike from Fredericksburg unless I have 4+ days to enjoy it.

Add me to the "investment fund" to go in thirds :ROFLMAO:. On a side note, I've been spending more time in F'burg lately with some friends building their home on some land out there.....area has changed a lot in last 5 years.

Y'all have me seriously drooling over your setups in here.
It has sure changed. Our son is a sophomore at the high school. We will be moving once he graduates and my wife has been put on notice that she is welcome to move with me. Lol. I am tired of all the tourists and the constant traffic, property tax increases, water restrictions so they can grow their fucking grapes, etc. Before Covid it was pretty nice here. Not so much anymore.

Haha. I grew up in SE NM so I am still partial to that terribly run state. Really miss all the BLM land.
BLM land is exactly the point!!!! Hahaha. Tbh I used to really want to buy land out west, or by a river, or with a Mountain View, or…. And the more I thought about it the more I decided I’d just buy a truck and camper to take me to those places hahaha. I can’t and won’t ever be able to afford a cabin with a view of the Tetons, or property on a stream full of native Cutthroats, but I can park my truck and camper on any of the 10’s of millions of acres of public land and have all those things and when I get tired of it I can go see the next view. Most of these Western states have millions of acres available…. I won’t lie owning would be cool too! But for now as a “Public Land Owner” it’s already mine to use. FWIW I do have 10 acres at home in NY, which isn’t a lot but plenty to shoot guns on and not have to see my neighbors. Just my thoughts but it’s really what pushed me into “Overlanding” to start with.

Oh yeah, and no one sends you a tax bill for it!

While I thoroughly enjoy the Hill Country on occasion I also thoroughly enjoy leaving it. Too many transplants out that way these days. Same with Midland. My office may be located there, but my favorite part of the day is seeing it in my mirror. I can be in Fredericksburg in about 4.5 hours, which is perfect for a weekend getaway with the wife a couple times a year. I’ve got a little too much nomad in me to want a vacation home though. I’d be miserable feeling obligated to the same area any time I had a chance to get away. That’s what makes a truck camper so attractive to me though. Toss my bag in the truck, and go see something new.

Agreed, I feel the same about our place in Kerrville. Boerne is getting to be a mini F-berg too, sad to see.

I’m so bored waiting on @TRAMPER I bought another truck for one of my guys. Lol. This interior makes me want to vomit. No offense if any of you ordered it. Lol

I’ve ran across a few properties I could afford that I’d love to own in W MT or ID along a nice stretch of water. However being that far away it would eat me up to spend that much, and hardly get to visit it. I’d rather put that money towards creating memories with my boy instead. Besides with the RareWaters app, I can park my truck along plenty of those stretches for a small fee and enjoy fishing new stretches of private water regularly. For now I think it’s a plausible solution to my so called problem haha

Nice of you to get him a 6.7 HO Lariat lol

👀 the Megatron in the background on pic #2. Hahaha. Wow!!!
Excited for you regarding the Supertramp Flagship install. I'll hit refresh 1,000 times waiting for final pic if it installed.

Noticed the Megatron in the background right away and then saw you mentioned it once I scrolled down. I know you can't/shouldn't share pics of the inside, but can you at least share if the Megatron had a completed interior? I know you peeked in!
I suspect, by the lack of interior Megatron pics, they they haven't finalized or finished it. But maybe they are getting close?

Ahahahhahaha. I’m sorry. I’m laying on the bed in the hotel room waiting for the phone to ring!!!!! Can’t rush perfection…. Sorry that your down time cost you $80k hahahaha. That interior isn’t for me, but it doesn’t make me want to vomit lol.

It’s far from being done interior wise. They are actively working on it, mocking up cabinets and according to Kelsey working to maximize every square inch. It looks like it has a ways to go. Elevation Offgrid purchased the 2nd one so they’re making at least two!

Best I can do at the moment. I didn’t take any tbh I didn’t even look at it, I was gawking over my own camper. My wife took a couple and sent them to a friend however.

I don’t really love this type of vehicle personally. I mean, would I buy one if I won the lottery? Maybe, but they are too big, heavy, tall and expensive for me. I think they really hit the sweet spot with the Flagship LT. we love truck campers and pop ups even more so. Megatron has a customer for sure but for half a million dollars it isn’t me hahaha. Plus my garage doors are 12x12 and Kelsey told me this is 13ft high, I think. So where would I park it?

The idea behind those campers are awesome. However the older I get the less I like people. I love daily driving 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Been driving them all my life. Parking isn’t an issue. Parked my 1 ton CCLB many of times in downtown Dallas, Houston, and Denver for work. I love their abilities. However when it comes to getting in the sticks they have their hinderances for sure. I can’t imagine one of those behemoths. They make my 250 short bed seem tiny. My idea is to get away from people, and my current 250 is almost too big for that.

I never liked people. So i hear ya!

FWIW, just got the call!!! Should be able to see it on my truck in about an hour!!!!!

Two pictures I had taken after I picked it up. Lol my boy was with his 2 cousins, and they wanted to check it out. They’re a lot of the motivation behind me getting this. I’m still young enough (not for long sadly) that I enjoy ground tents and hammocks!

Nice! Looks super roomy!!!! And those are some happy kiddos, that’s what it’s all about. Go outside and make memories. Good for you! Kids are lucky to have a Dad/ Uncle like you!

Tha rare waters website looks interesting…. I hope I remember it next time I come out west to fish. Thanks for sharing that. You’re a kindered spirit for sure. I wonder sometimes if life wouldn’t be easier living in a van, down by the river.

Thanks for confirming. I suspected Megatron interior was still a work in progress or they would have been showing it off when at SEMA and the other shows. I saved away that image and it might accidentally get shared since it doesn't seem to be sharing any company secrets. Ha.

Price aside, these large and tall overlanding rigs are for a certain environment and use case. The pop-up campers I've owned already get fairly beat up from trailside and overhead branches and cliff walls. These big rigs are for desert, prairie and open country (or campgrounds). Even the small hard sided flatbed campers I really like (AT Aterra XL or OEV Hudson Bay hardsided) are a no go for us, unfortunately. We're not willing to compromise where we take our camper so "fitting" is a top priority when we weigh the pros and cons of a rig. Honestly, the Supertramp Flagship on a non-Tremor Superduty is already increasing our overall rig height by about 8" over previous pickup/camper and that is before any suspension work. So we are already pushing a bit outside our rig-size sweet spot. Nothing worse than working your way down some epic mountain trail loop and having to call it quits because of size and so backtrack. My wife wishes I'd soften that mental position about not backtracking as it's gotten us down some trails that we had no business being on. But, we made it through and didn't have to turn back, so...who was right? I'll leave that up the to philosophers.
