I like the idea of the Bundutec flat bed model. I was on the bubble between Northstar Laredo SC and Bundutec Roadrunner (both slide in TCs). Set up factory visits with both in August. I went to the Bundutec factory And really liked what I saw. Good quality with nice features. The owner Rory is a very open guy who will modify things to meet your needs. Spent a bunch of time with me. Very cool TC for forest and BLM roads.

Then went to Northstar the next day. Nice TCs but owner Rex was a total dickhead. Don’t think he understood who would be spending the $40K and who should be the one Trying to get the business. Can’t imagine dealing with him if there was a significant issue. Decided to go with the Bundutec. I think you’ll be happy with one as well.

The Big Wig made a noticeable difference, I haven’t disconnected it since we don’t do any serious off-roading with it, mostly rough forest service fire roads. The truck is really to big for a lot of trails here in Colorado. We have a Jeep for now, waiting on the Warthog’s release.

Thanks for the info. Surprised by the dry weight. The on line specs are obviously for a bare bones truck. Good thing you added the bags. Forest Svc fire roads and BLM roads are what I am building for as well. Is the factory clearance adequate for the washouts and ruts Or do you have bottoming out issues? From your previous note I am considering a 1250 # Hellwig helper spring kit in the rear. Have you or anyone else got experience with these?

Your comment on is it really camping in a $50k trailer is a good one. All depends on your age, wife’s attitude and how many days you can stand to go without a shower. These obsessions that start out so innocently end up crazy expensive.

Have you considered the OEV Camp-X, Camp-HBE or even a full Summit conversion?

These may be comparable to what you’re looking for and some are available today.... the camp-X at least.
There’s a thread I posted a couple days ago about the Camp-X model which is similar to the Bundutec and FWC style campers if you’re interested.

I’d guess between $160,0000 to $180,000. I am now of the opinion that the Bushtracker is the best built van, but they’d be a few thousand more expensive again.

I haven’t bottomed out yet and I think I would have issues if I hit a deep rut off camber due to top heavy weight of the camper. Most of the FS/BLM roads I have been on with the camper could be navigated in a Subaru and I am usually in 2WD. I find a good camping spot and drop it there then go hit the rougher routes without the camper. No experience with helper springs.

My thoughts exactly, I love the RTT but I would be in it alone. Had a bear incident in the Uinta’s a few years ago and now the wife will not even consider a pop-up TC.
 
Sold my Lance 825 and ordering a 2021 Cirrus 820. Will be towing a boat and installing the Torklift Magnum hitch. Can you let me know what the distance is from the receiver to the bumper on the 820 so I can order the extension?

33 inches from the receiver face to the camper bumper. I would think a 36 inch extension should work.

That money will buy a lot of nights in Sun Valley, Banff, Swiss Alps, Aspen, Greece, Nassau, Maui, Maldives, Thailand, Bora Bora, Italy.....
Just saying.
