Thia guy is looking for signals from microwave transmitters to submarine transmissions. The longer the antenna, the lower the fundamental frequency.

The choice is: Aesthetics? or Functionality? One is compromised with the other.
I didn't like the OEM big whip floating in the wind; my primary reason for getting rid of it.

Even Ronin has it in their advertisement. Just something to keep in mind.

So, while they do look cool, and I like them in concept... I find having the normal antenna as a height limit indicator for garages outweighs everything. Maybe you don't live in an area this is necessary, though.

I'd like that because I don't use radio anymore , but I like what @xler8r said about height testing using the antenna

So I’m going to do a “scientific” experiment tomorrow. Just to be as objective as possible, I’m going to reinstall my factory “clearance feeler” whip and do a channel scan, setting up stations I would listen to locally if I didn’t feel like streaming. Then I’ll reinstall my stubby antenna and see how many stations come in clear enough to listen to.

I’m doing this because I’ve had my station presets programmed for the last 3+ years to the local stations and always thought it performed as good as the whip. Granted I only listen to OTA stations occasionally and only really like about four local stations. But in central Indiana we probably have more than a dozen pop, rock, country and oldies stations that I would listen to. I’ll report back once the test is complete.
