[resolved] Turbo Failure - Ford not covering

Latest: Dealer called me this morning and said they can't do anything under warranty and that was that, sorry. The service advisor actually disagreed with the assessment and was frustrated but said his hands were tied. I called Ford customer service again but they never called me back which is irritating. I then called the dealer where I purchased it and told them the story. They are going to have it towed to them tomorrow and said they would be willing to try to help me out in this situation. I'm not sure what to make of that but I refuse to pay $7,000 for something like this that I had zero control over or influence on. I am hopeful that this dealer will treat me right and take care of it immediately since its already been a week without the truck. I'll update this thread as I have updates and I hope everyone is enjoying their truck more than I am right now!

Stay persistent and hold your ground. You should not pay a dime. Ford should compensate you for your trouble.

No way Ford would turn down that warranty claim at 2k miles... NO WAY,the dealer is screwing you around.
What did Ford say when you called customer service?

That sounds quite unreasonable for you to have to cover something that clearly fits between bumper to bumper. Good move going to the original dealership they at least have a little more invested in you as a customer. Based off what you have been saying, I see no reason to not hold your ground on this one. Good luck.

So I’m tooling around on the interweb and I ran across this. No big deal until you look up what they make...turbos...one of their two top customers is Ford. Not trying to rub salt in the wound, but this could potentially be a problem. Not sure what all turbos they make or what vehicles they are in but...

Reuters) - U.S. auto-parts maker Garrett Motion Inc said on Sunday it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, as it struggles with heavy debt due to a payment settlement dispute with former parent Honeywell International Inc (HON.N) and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Im so sorry to hear what you are going through.
Try to hang in there. It’s got to work out. Seems inconceivable that you would have to pay. Again you and your situation are included in my morning prayers. ???

Might have to get a lawyer involved if the other dealer can't help either.

Unless they can provide evidence that you did something to cause the turbo to fail, ford is on the hook to repair it.

If this dealer covers it I hope you let the other one that turned you down know about it.

Honestly this wouldn’t be that big of a deal as other companies could buy the parts of Garrett and continue producing for companies like Ford. That’s if there is something worth buying.

Why is the reason for the non warranty? Ford should tell you why it’s not being repaired under warranty. Why do they think you caused it?

When you get to the dealer you purchased from make it very clear that any response other than "we are fully covering this" will result in some very decisive action on your part.

Be prepared to get a lawyer and to contact the nearest television consumer reporter.......However I predict they fix your truck no questions asked.

Hang in there!!

The only answer I can get is it was caused by "outside influence" which is meaningless to me because this thing has barely even been used and NEVER abused or even challenged.

If they can’t share what outside influence, they have no case!

Thats BS. I'm surprised Ford turned that down? I thought that was part of the comprehensive warranty? Ive gotten tires covered under warranty around 2,000km.

If you have to pay for a new Turbo then research out a good one. Cheetah is supposed to be good.

Can you post your VIN?

Also I am seriously thinking about cancelling my tremor now as , at least with my power wagon they pay for it! In this case they are pretty much fucking you about. This is a failed component on a brand new truck this should not have failed. They have to show something outside of normal wear and tear . I’ll watch this thread for a few more days, call ford, and in the mean time, go look at power wagons again or a Chevy/ gmc. Even if my dealer doesn’t refund my down, I’d rather be out 1k then deal with this shit.

Just don’t need this stress or aggravation

Here is the latest: After waiting 24 hours for my original dealer to call me back, I decided to just call over and over until I finally got someone to go find him. He was out yesterday and was just busy today so couldn't call me back but I caught him around 3PM, finally. He was very understanding and basically agreed I am getting screwed and I should never be treated this way for a clear warranty issue on an 80K pickup truck. (I have a Bronco First Edition on order too but forget that) He asked me to call the roadside assistance number and have it towed to him and they would get on it. I agreed and dialed them up. After 47 minutes of my life on the phone with them, they finally came back and told me that 30 miles is too far and it would cost me $270 to have it towed. I can't make this stuff up. So now I am sitting at a week with zero progress and my frustration point is hitting its limit. Oh yeah, I called my Ford customer care rep, Makiah, yesterday morning asking for a call back and all day yesterday and all day today she never bothered to call me back. Why am I surprised at this point - awful. Ford just sucks and while I love(d) this truck I may just be done. I have never experienced anything like this from any other manufacturer and I've owned more cars than I can count. I am really disappointed. Thanks for all the support!!

Thanks. I won't be paying for anything turbo related. I'll gladly spend more than $7,000 in a lawsuit just out of principle to expose this BS.

I have AAA. There service is great for reasonable yearly fee.
100 to 200 miles free tow.

If you do hire a lawyer. Make Ford pay your legal fees and your new AAA membership.

Have you ever used their service? If so how was it?

I don't believe this sort of thing is isolated to Ford, I've heard horror stories about all car manufactures when it comes to warranty work. Regardless, it sucks that they are putting you through this. (I recall a youtuber having his supercharger fail on his hellcat and they claimed his K&N air filter caused it... he fought it and ultimately they had to replace the supercharger)

It really makes zero sense to me why they would decide the turbo isn't under warranty. Unless they found other modifications under the hood (and even then, they would need proof the mod caused the failure) they have zero ground if this goes to court.

I would start making my voice be heard. Message their facebook account, twitter, etc. File a report with the BBB. Raise Hell until they do whats right and replace the turbo.
