Reporting scam accounts

I don't think making grammar, in general, a leading indicator of scamming would be prudent... ;)
In most security seminars I have attended, (very common for updates in high tech) the number one thing they stress to weed out and report scammers, is the URL accuracy, then grammar. IMO, grammar is a leading indicator of a scammer as many come from other countries or simply a dishonest A-hole trying to slip one through. Many (most) are illiterate. But on a platform such as this, with member rules in place, it is a pretty sure bet that the offers are legit. I thank the moderators for their diligence and efforts to keep the forum legit and honest. I think this is a great community and members like @Dok D reporting suspicious activity is a plus.

No disagreement with your statements. My comment was an attempt at humor as I encounter many instances of poor grammar reading through legitimate posts. The punchline being if we flagged for grammar we would throw the proverbial baby out with the bath water... 🤷‍♂️

Lol. Poor grammar and spelling here could be a thread all on its own.

Sorry, my cognitive decline missed the humor aspect. Now that I'm awake, all I can say is DOH! My excuse is that I was rafting all day yesterday (whitewater) my mind is a bowl of mush and got up early today in anticipation of celebrating my grandkids 21st
B-day; looking forward to opening the Tremor Select!

My response was with intentions to inform others that may never have to go through security seminars that these are things to look out for.

Speaking of grammar, what happened to the spell checker BTW? It used to suggest corrections for the spelling errors and now seems to say "no suggestion" at all misspellings. (Not that I ever misspell...)

Ok, now to find that bottle. Where did I put that again? 🤔

I wanted to take a minute and remind everyone to be cautious when receiving unsolicited private messages from members claiming to know someone who has an item you’re looking for.

There has been a few reported private messages that look like this:

I hope you’re doing well. I wanted to reach out because I know someone who currently has exactly what you’re looking for. This could be a great opportunity for you to get it quickly and reliably. His name is Rene, and you can reach him directly at

These messages typically direct members to contact a third party by email, text, or another service outside the forum. The person may then request payment for an item that doesn’t exist. We are always doing our best to prevent scams and spam on the forum, but unfortunately, it can be a game of whack-a-mole.

Please stay alert, and if something doesn’t feel right, ask the community, trust your instincts, and report it!

Or, if you have some downtime and feel like performing a public service, engage them from a burner number if you know how to do that or burner email address. This site is awesome for disposable email addresses. Play dumb and waste as much of their time as humanly possible.

- Pretend you’re an old lady who barely understands electricity or you don't speak English very well. Get creative.
- Assure them you are ready to send the money. You just need help getting into your computer because you forgot your password. Ask if they know what it is.
- Ask what a web browser is. Then ask whether Google is “the red X.”
- Remain one small problem away from paying them.
- Occasionally disappear for 20 minutes because someone is at the door. Come back and tell them it must have been the cat again.
- Tell them they’re such a polite and helpful young man that you’d like to refer everyone in your poker club. Give them several more burner numbers and email addresses, then repeat the process with a different persona.

If you're lucky and get one that agrees to meet up, set the location as far away from where they are as you can. When they ask where you are, apologize profusely and explain that you misunderstood and are actually waiting at another location ten minutes farther away. Repeat as necessary until they either give up or complete a tour of the county while you are going about your day.

Have fun
