Regrets…. Hindsight… or Love

I was going to add the PTO option as well but 2 things prevented me from doing so:

1: Potentially delaying the truck's build day
2: The only thing I would want it for is a PTO generator; and when researching this, found it to not even be worthwhile for the amount of idle hours I'd be putting on the engine in addition to it not having a stable output like an inverter generator would have.

Once you've got keyless it's hard to go back. Sure first world problems and all, but having to go dig in my gym bag for the key is really annoying. This is a no brainer upgrade for me. I wouldn't buy the truck without it.

For the '21s this is what the Lariat Ultimate gives you over and above the Lariat Value package:

• Ambient Lighting – Fixed Color
• Intelligent Access with Push-button Start (PEPS)
• Power Telescoping/Tilt Steering Wheel/Column, memory and audio controls
• Remote Tailgate Release
• Tailgate Step
• Voice-activated Navigation System with HD and SiriusXM® Satellite Radio
• Wireless Charging Pad (only included when 40/console/40 seat is ordered)

Cost delta between the two packages is $2,785. You can add in the tailgate step and navigation separately for $375 and $570 respectively ($945 combined). So what you're paying for with Lariat Ultimate is the ambient lighting, intelligent/keyless access, power tilt/telescoping wheel/column, remote tailgate release, and the wireless charging pad. The cost for those items separate from the tailgate step and navigation is approximately $1,840. Since these are things you can't easily add later I'll be adding the Lariat Ultimate package. For $1,840 the wireless charging and keyless entry alone would make it worthwhile for me.
You just explained my thought process for getting the Ultimate Package. It came down to, sure there's a lot of nice stuff there but I had to have push button start and the charging pad.

I found a unexpected use for the combination. I often lock my keys in the truck on purpose so I don't have to carry them. So after unlocking it with the key pad I can just reach in and push the start button and brake pedal and it starts. The fact that the seat is back all the way and the steering wheel is up makes this easy. The Ford Pass remote starting doesn't always work because I don't always have my phone or the kids opened the doors or the ... whatever.

The ability to adjust the ambient lighting is an unexpected big deal and benefit too. I don't need a lot of light to see (a biological characteristic of my baby blues I'm told) and bright ambient light at night is annoying. I played with the lights once, adjusted them to my liking, and left them there. The bright ambient light on some trucks makes it hard for me to see at night with so much light in the cab.

So basically I've found almost everything in the Ultimate Package is a must have.

For a while, I sometimes wished I would have gotten the LEDs, but then I remembered that would have cost a bunch because I would first have to get the Lariat Ultimate Package.

I did not get the Adaptive Steering, Trailer Tow Assist, Moonroof, or Marker Lights. Those were earlier considerations but I eliminated them quickly and never regretted it.

Bit of a tangent, but are you not concerned about someone being able to easily steal your whole truck if they break in, rather than just the stuff inside your truck?

My current truck has the keypad so arguably I could lock the keys inside as well, but I never have as I don’t want to literally hand the keys to a thief if they break in.

The only item I wish I had done is the carpet delete.

For my taste, the Lariat Value package was the best option. I didn't want a moonroof, nor did I want Adaptive steering, navigation, an electric tailgate release, or a charging pad (that none of our phone can use).

The the only must-have item that I selected with the Lariat Value:
-Heated steering wheel (bundled with automatic wipers)

A few options that I surprisingly like that I would not have bought if they were not bundled with the Value Package:
-Cooled seats (wanted heated seats)
-Trailer tow mirrors
-LED Headlights

Options that I have that are not worth it:
-Spray in liner (coverage is not ideal, would have done aftermarket, but came with the blackout)
-Auto wipers (the control sucks, usually run them manually as it is too fast for light rain and too slow for heavy rain)

My only regret is that I didn't get two!
I'm driveway challenged so there is that.

Location, location, location.

The operable word here is "often". No I would not do this in an area where theft like this is expected.

Another tangent....................................

Long ago I lived in a not so good neighborhood and drove a '75 Blazer. Most of the time the top was off so I didn't even bother to lock it and never left anything of value I could not remove in it. Rain was in the forecast so I put the soft top on and locked the doors that night. Some idiot broke the vent wing glass to unlock the truck and try to find something to steal. Why not just unzip the rear or unsnap the side rail? I never locked the truck while I lived there again. I have no idea how many times people looked through it.

Now I live very close to the LA County Sheriff and a Superior Court Judge. I probably have some of the best local police service in the country. If I lived a few miles down the road I probably wouldn't even park the Tremor outside.

Ya, that makes sense. I guess I'm paranoid after my car was broken into a number of years ago. Wasn't a particularly bad area, just drew the short straw apparently. Also had stuff sitting on the front seat (unloaded Christmas gifts from the trunk first and got stuck inside for a bit while my niece and nephew immediately opened their gifts). Now I know to unload the visible stuff first.

As for breaking through the glass instead of the soft-top...I have no words. That's hilariously annoying/frustrating. I have a beater sitting in front of my house right now (working on selling it) and also leave it unlocked all the time.

360 camera is awesome. Opted not to get the panorama sun roof bc I have one in my jeep and dont use it that much and I dont miss it. Cooled and heated seats and heated steering wheel is a must for me. The stock non LED headlights are not the brightest but I added some front accessory lights on for when I need to see more. An aftermarket MX4 Bakflip is awesome with the factory bedliner, and a B&W stow and go drop hitch is great for towing diff size trailers. I added a front ranch hand sport winch ready bumper which looks amazing. Upfitter switches are nicely prewired for any accessories. Engine block heater for those negative temp weeks in winter.

Actually the thick rubbery floor covering with its padding underneath probably offers better sound deadening. It's not a thin cheap vinyl like they used years ago. Includes attachments for floor liners.

Damn - I wish I had found one with the carpet delete now. Didn’t know it had snaps to secure mats!?! Is anyone else a little miffed that the factory rear mats do not extend all the way to the rear of the center console? There’s a three inch gap there of non-coverage; drives me crazy.

Yeah they also do nothing to contain any measurable amount of liquid.

Don't sweat it. Just get some Weather Techs or Huskys. They do a real good job of protecting.

That's why even with the vinyl floor I still got Weather Techs. It just makes it a lot easier to dump the crap out of the floor that comes in on the boots.

I’m waffling on the winch. It’s currently on my order. Love how it looks, the fact it’s crash tested, and covered by the factory warranty.

Not a fan of how crammed in there it is, meaning maintenance/repairs is a pain. Also limits the amount of rope to a non-standard 70 feet. Also non-standard mounting means another winch is never an option.

I appreciate the price as, compared to purchasing a winch bumper, winch and paying for install, it’s easily $1000 less expensive for the factory option.
Update on this: I've now emailed my dealer to pull the winch off my order. May still end up with it, but I'm waffling enough that I don't want to commit to it at the time of truck purchase and I'm willing to pay the install fee later if I decide I do want it.

Still getting the dual batteries and 397 amp alternators, of course, to keep the door open. And because they're awesome. :D

Does ultimate include LED’s ? I thought that was a separate add?

I kinda struggle with the cost of “Lariat ultimate” just to basically get auto release tailgate and push button start… but, I really do like having the fob in my pocket.
I wish I got the ultimate, I have the value with LEDs. I miss my fob, jingling keys form the ignition drive me nuts, also it doesn’t have the sweet ambient lighting which I didn’t know!

You’ll likely want to install it yourself anyway! It seems a rare finding when a dealer has done it correctly. They messed mine up and I’m still waiting on a new synthetic rope b/c they failed to follow their own directions…

At the risk of going off topic here...can anyone tell me if the seats on the Platinum are really better than the Lariat? I get that they have the multi-contour and that most people seem to like this a lot. But aside from the massaging feature is the seat (leather feel, comfort, etc) actually much better? I'm trying to figure out where the value is with the Platinum and so far all I can see is that you get the different seats.

Note: I'm comparing Platinum to a loaded Lariat. I know there's a bunch of packages you get automatically when you go with the Platinum. But once you've loaded up the Lariat they seem to have feature parity outside of the seats.
