Project Black Cherry

Amazing build to follow along. Can you please post pics with all that badging gone. Thats what i plan on doing as well.

I will, absolutely. Once the new wheels go on, I am going to shoot the truck again.

👏 on the chrome removal for step. I’m sure you are happy with the overall results.

Sure am. I want to fill the gap on the end caps with some black silicon or something as the void is a bit of an eye-sore but can't complain for the time/effort the "delete" took. Sure accomplished the goal!

I ordered the same truck in early September. Don’t have a VIN yet. Yours is awesome.
Thank you!

What offset on the 20X9 EVO? Any Trim work needed with those and the 38’s with the Carli 4.5?
0 offset. No trimming as of yet. Off camber driveways get a bit of a "buzz". I have new wheels at the powder coater now that are a -12mm on 38s so I'm holding my trimming until the new combo is on.

New Wheels are in and I'd say i did OK on the color-match. For those wondering, Prismatic' s Illusion Cherry matches Rapid Red pretty damn well!

Doing Gloss black Rings.

These are the new KMC Mesa FORGED Beadlocks, 17x9, 12mm Offset.

That’s beautiful, would be afraid to take it off road & damage such a beautiful wheel

Have a 7.3L rapid red platinum tremor on order & looking at upgrading the suspension for lots of highway driving as well as gravel/high desert trails and moderate 4 wheeling on mountain shelf trails in the Silverton/Telluride area of Colorado but want to stick with 35’s & trying to figure out what offers the best bang for the buck

It also enforces (to me) that sidewall looks good on a truck tire/wheel combo... I do not like the large diameter rim look unless it is in combination with massive tires.

First off, what a great build and build thread. Your truck is looking absolutely amazing! Now, two questions…I take it no rubbing or fitment issues with the 17’s? Unless I missed it, it looks like you are still running stock brakes, is that correct?

That looks awesome!!
Thank you!
Very nice. Will you leave the locking hub in this color or paint it black, or better yet replace it with Warn locking hub?
DAMN YOU for bringing this and the $450 solution to my attention.
Now that is sexy, how does the powder coating hold up to abuse?
The best of any finish, really. I usually beat the hell out of my trucks and PC lasts longer than paint by a long shot.
The proportions on that truck look soooo good!!!
Thank you!
wow. Looks like a show truck.

Impressive detail.

38’s look like they’re what the truck is supposed to ship with. Have photos of the trimming you did to make them work?
I haven't done it yet but will take some pictures when i do. Letting it all "settle in" before breaking out the angle grinder.

It's all about proportions, that's for sure. I run 40s on 17s on my ram and they're a bit big for the rim but need the function. The 17/38 is made for this rig.

Thank you! There's a touch of rub on the inner fender and bumper bracket that will take me 8 seconds to clear; this is because i shifted the 38s out 1/2" (-12mm offset vs. 0 on my old wheels).

Stock brakes. I was sweating bullets when installing everything as these trucks aren't supposed to be able to fit 17" wheels around the factory caliper but i lucked out. It's not the barrel of the wheel but the concave transitioning the barrel to the face of the wheel that contacts the caliper. Erring on the side of caution, i went -12mm and am thrilled with the result.

Fantastic clean look without all the badges! :-)

Maybe it’s the photo angle on these two, but especially on the second it does look like the truck is sitting higher in the front. Curious if it’s perfect level or it is indeed a little higher in front now.

1" taller in the rear than the front, actually! Angle of the picture, for sure.

I think the top of the hood (especially near the a-pillar) being higher than the top of the bed rail contributes to the impression is that the front is higher.
