OB's OB Air

Need to dial in the extrusion on this ASA-CF but not bad for first time using it.

Final prints turned out awesome. I made adjustments to the drawings but nothing major enough to reprint. I did switch to PPA-CF for the elbow b/c i needed higher strength on the threaded portion since its decently thin wall.

Filter fits, elbow is clocked when fully tightened, lid fits great... time for final install.

What if its raining when i'm driving... well, should have incorporated something for that but i didnt so... duct tape :D

I can't see that lasting too long -- I'd run into it the second I pull something out of the bed.

i know, i know.
its why I intentionally plan on taking spare elbows. getting the tailight off is nothing to get to it if/when i break it :P

Got everything plumbed and wired up. mother of George Strait, that was not fun. However, this just needs to be approached a bit differently and it wouldnt be so bad given one would end up with an onboard air setup thats completely out of the way.

A few things to note/do different next time...

I bought a leader with a JIC connection on one end (compressor side) and MPT on the other (tank side). I installed a 3/8" to 1/2" street elbow on the tank and then threaded the leader into it. After installing the air compressor, I installed the tank w/ leader attached. Getting to the JIC connection on the compressor was not fun. Ended up using a crows foot and bear hugging the whole assembly to get things tight. sub-optimal.

This would have been easier had the leader been installed on the compressor first. Theres plenty of room to access the swivel near the tank should one exist. Next time... swivel on both ends. In fact, if re-do this setup, this is what i'll be doing even if it requires an extra fitting.

speaking of the tank... with this setup, a tee would make it very tight on the driver side since the shock/mount is right there. I shifted my tank to the passenger side just a bit b/c i have some 5100s i'm going to be installing soon.

Speaking of shifting the tank... i need to update the design so the tank mounts aren't so spread apart. being closer would enable one to have more adjustability with where they want to put the tank driver/passenger.

Now, wiring...
I actually ran the wiring (power and relay) down the passenger side frame. Used zip tie magnets liberally. Found some on amazon that came in absolutely clutch.
Connected the compressor to Upfitter#1.

Test ran it tonight and it works as expected. Just waiting for a few more things to wrap this up for the time being.

I dont hate it

Curios why the ASA-CF - one of my ventures is a small additive manufacturing business and we print a ton of ASA on our fleet of X1Cs for functional parts. Haven't found a significant benefit to using CF yet. Not questioning your use of it, just wondering what your experience has been.
I'm trying it out So far i've not had to tweak any settings to get a decent print (see my air box earlier in this thread).

I print pucks (spacers) for a product I sell and i CANNOT, for the life of me, figure out the setting to get the top surface to come out nice when using ASA. Ended up turning on the ironing function (recommended by someone on here). Meh. Its workable but its a workaround IMO. I've tried a TON of different things but theres a million left. I'm hoping this CF formula will be nicer but i havent tried a run of pucks yet to know for sure.

Any expert suggestions on improving top layer on ASA, i'm all ears. The pucks I make are in perfect compression so the CF honestly does no good. Plus it makes the surfaces rougher.

Sounds like simple over-extrusion. Assuming you've already tried flow calibration? Generally not needed on the X1C but can make a big difference in some situations.

You know, i need to go back and make sure i've done this. I know i've done it for most of my filaments but i'm not sure if i did it for ASA.

What did you end up doing for the exhaust heat shield? I'm trying to figure out a spot for my tank and that shield is right in the best location.

Use the air compressor to stoke the fire too! Always used a Coleman inflator as a kid, D batteries not included.
I’ve got a long hose for this very reason

On my 2017 I ran a viair 550 compressor mounted above the plate that is on top of the spare tire. I didn’t have to run a filter or a snorkel on it and it ran for years like that. Turned out to be a great place as it was just wasted space.

On my last trip, i had water over my tires. This might not have gotten in the compressor but i ran the line up and out just to be sure. Plus, it makes it a heckuva lot easier to mess with the air filter.
