OB's OB Air

Hard coat black looks good! Waiting for longer u-bolts to come in then i'll get it mounted.
Not sure why the tank came out like that. Wife picked it up for me. I'm just gonna roll with it. Its alum anyway.

What brand and size is the tank?

Bingo. Maybe they strapped it down so it wouldn’t float.
If I were trying to dip something like that into any type of bath where it might float, I'd thread a sacrificial rod into the opening to seal it and assist in pinning it down.

Looks like they did their etch bath w the straps in place.
good point. I asked them to anodize the inside too but the way the holes are drilled, there is a flashing of metal (threaded, interestingly enough) that protrudes into the tank about 1/8". B/c of that they advised against since they wouldnt be able to get all the liquids out.
It would have been one big float since they plugged it

Kinda sucks though b/c ill never be able to drain ALL of whatever liquid is inside it. oh well.

Airmaxxx 3 gallon aluminum - has 3/8 and 1/4" connections 200psi rated.
However, I did find this tank shortly after thats prime and a touch cheaper granted it says it only has 1/4" connections. Its 200psi rated too.

No reason you couldn't flush it w alcohol or thinner and then use compressed air to dry the inside. The remainder around the inlets would just evaporate.

Posted these on my IG but forgot to post them here. This is turning out just as i'd hoped!

I found out today I dont need to 3d print the plastic spacers. The u-bolts dont sit over the opening on the frame so i'm just going to cut a small slot in the stockers and just roll with them.

The brass fitting you see is my jbweld job to adapt a hose and relocate the filter/run a better filter.

This pic shows how much the compressor will clear the tire. Super happy with the fitment!

Regarding the heat shield... i'm considering not going back with it and instead just wrapping the exhaust with some lava heat wrap. This would save me from having to cut up the shield to make it fit with the ubolt. Be easier to just wrap the exhaust plus I have some leftover from my previous truck.

Whats yalls thoughts?

You're still using mounting two AZ's, yes?
I've changed course a little. At this point in time i'm only going to run one AZ. I have a KY trip in April that has a decent to-do list and a second compressor is not high on that list.

Makin progress getting this installed. It is going to be a challenge to plumb this thing as its pretty darn tight and its elevated off the ground where i cant reach laying on a creeper.
Trying to figure out some of the fitting type/threads on this compressor so i can customize the plumbing to hopefully make it easier. These id tools have come in clutch so I'm gear sharing for those that didnt know they needed these :)

More progress.

So after putting it altogether, the outside tube leans really bad when i tighten down the ubolts. Should have expected this but i was hoping it wouldnt be THAT bad.

So, i'm printing two pieces that will match the frame contour to counter this. having gone this route, its seriously got me thinking how i can make this entire OBA bracket a no-weld setup. but i digress..

the green circle shows the issue.

Enter this guy. problem solved

Lastly, because i overlooked the spacing between the tank and the compressor, i had to drill new holes to push the compressor back farther towards the rear. my leader is 18" and i was at 15". my new holes put me at about 17.25" which will work b/c the leader is decently flexible.

But, now i cant just come off the front lazily with some hose. I dont have the clearance anymore so i drew this guy up.
It threads directly into the intake which is M20x1.25, a thread size not in the Metric profile within Fusion so I got to learn how to modify the thread config file.

Files are printing. should be done in 3.5 hrs. 🤞 it works!

Wedges came out great and the elbow turned out... meh. I printed it in the same orientation as shown above. This ensured the threads dont require any support thus come out clean.
However, this left the top part where the hose connects needing supports which caused a less-than-stellar print. a bit of sanding fixed it. I'll get pics later.

I'm sure this will come out great with the amount of effort you're putting into this project.

I hope so.

I'm not doing a complete permanent install just yet. I havent decided where i want the remote inlet air filter box nor where i want the outlets to be just yet. So, i'm going to temp install inlet/outets for my KY trip here in April and make the complete install a post-KY project.

I need a remote air filter box for my air compressor for my trip in April. whipped this guy up to mount on DS rear bed post.

It'll go where my tailguard normally goes on the driver side, using the same hole too. I'll 3d print an elbow to thread into through the TailGuard hole (going to use screw threads not NPT so i can get good thread engagement but allow me to cinch it down). Easy access with the taillight out so just need to confirm mount holes are aligned. Elbow will face down allowing me to route the hose up the bed post and band clamp it on. The add'l hole on this will allow for a bolt to mount in the center hole on the bed post. help carry some of the weight.

I'll print an extra elbow and take on my trip JIC i happen to schwack this thing and shear the first one. I'm in charge of getting the nightly campfire going 🔥 therefore i'll be the one luggin wood. decent chance a schwacking could take place.

I'm thinking ASA-CF just in case this becomes temporarily permanent. :P

What filter did i make it for? the spare one I had for my lawn mower 🤘 🍻

Use the air compressor to stoke the fire too! Always used a Coleman inflator as a kid, D batteries not included.

not a bad idea but not knowing where i'll be setup relative to the fire vs my hose length, i'll just use these portable guys
:ROFLMAO: 🤘

test prints came out and fit fantastic. Having a scan of the bed post came in clutch.

Printing full prototypes now.

Need to dial in the extrusion on this ASA-CF but not bad for first time using it.

Final prints turned out awesome. I made adjustments to the drawings but nothing major enough to reprint. I did switch to PPA-CF for the elbow b/c i needed higher strength on the threaded portion since its decently thin wall.

Filter fits, elbow is clocked when fully tightened, lid fits great... time for final install.

What if its raining when i'm driving... well, should have incorporated something for that but i didnt so... duct tape :D
