Needing some 5th wheel towing advice!

I have the Curt 24K slider ( base ) with a 20 K head. It drops in the puck type set up ( factory 5th wheel prep package). Its set in the highest setting. There are three. Needed the clearance for the top of the bed to bottom of the nose of the RV, My spot is off road in the north woods and there are hills will curves on the trail ( not paved ). If I camped at a paved site I could drop it down one setting.

Here is some detail photos of my old 37' Open Range ( 14,700) and the New Grand Design that it 41'6" and 16,800. There is no way in hell I would trust an anderson with a 6 figure RV. I would trust the Reese slider or the B&W both make great products.

I have the same as above. Anderson Slider with a Q20 head. Works great. It’s heavy.

I pull a Jayco Eagle HT 30.5 MBOK. 12,000 loaded to the gills, water fuel etc.

Great trailer and easy to use hitch.

Nice set up! Did you have to use air bags and if so which ones? Looks like it sits great!
No air bags. Completely stock. About 2k pin weight.

Reviving an old thread but I finally pulled the trigger on a BW companion slider hitch after too many hours on other forums regarding slider vs non, brands etc. This may be way more hitch than I actually need but I can sure be confident that camper is plenty secure.

im thinking of getting the same one.

I have a Pulrite automatic slider, I love the hitch the only thing with the Pulrite is you have to have a separate capture plate that mounts on the king pin of the camper.

I need the Companion Slider with my rig. Along with the Gen Y Executive King Pin Box the set up is very smooth, quite and I can maneuver into any location I need to get into.

I use the B&W Slider in both my '97 Powerstroke and my '22 Tremor. Love it. Tows my 16800 lb Momentum 5th Wheel with no problem - very smooth. I need and use the slider all the time as we typically camp way off the grid on dirt roads out west - high mountains and desert and need to be able to turn 90* to get the big rig into tight spots. The front of the Momentum hangs 1' over the hitch pin. Even though the front cap is tapered, if you turn too tight with the slider in the forward travel position you can contact the cab or headache rack in my case and the front of the 5th Wheel. I've seen pictures of people who have done so and the damage can be substantial. Highly recommend a slider hitch for a short box truck.

I installed the B&W Turnoverball Hitch in my Tremor myself as it is a far superior hitch to the factory option. I tow a lot of heavy equipment and dump trailer on goosenecks. Been very happy with with the B&W product.
Post a pic of you truck and rig

I'm not sure which goose ball to get, but here are the 2 pin boxes I mentioned. They replace the pin box on the trailer.

Gen-Y
Reese
I purchased the B&W GNXA2061 kit for the puck system.

I had the B&W Companion that works with the turnover ball (Gooseneck)- great hitch but the locking mechanism to the gooseneck could bind up and be a PITA when I wanted to remove the hitch. For my 22 I went with the B&W OEM puck version, it is alot lighter and smaller footprint in the bed.

I've never needed a slider and always used short beds - but I do not drag it all over the country

How much did you pay to get your B&W Companion Sliders installed into your trucks?

Also, after using it for a while, do you think you could have gotten away with fixed hitch or are you glad you paid the extra $700 for the slider? I am debating between the two options right now for my truck pulling a 42', 16,200 GVWR fifth wheel.

If you have a new 5th wheel, you don’t really need a heavy slider with how they make the front caps nowadays. I use a demo recon and get about 85-86 degrees. curt has a new crosswing hitch that I’m very interested in. waiting on more use and real life reviews for about a year.

I have a slider but have never used it and I have been in some tight places but it there is I need it I guess. If we’re to buy another I wouldn’t by a slider.

I personally would not buy a slider. My 5th wheel has a rounded front end and I can turn plenty tight. Not a full 90 but very close. Also the slider is just too big and heavy. B&W is an excellent hitch and a love mine.

I use a slider hitch towing my cougar 28rdb. It's a reese 15k model that I had in my previous two trucks. It's a non puck hitch, so I bought the puck adapter rails for it. The only time I actually use the sliding feature, is when I'm hooking or unhooking. With the the hitch slid back, I can drop the tailgate and back right up and hook.

My camper has auto level, and when I go to hitch, one button puts the trailer nose at the height it was when I unhooked and raise rear level jacks. Easy peasy.

I will upgrade to a puck system hitch when I upgrade to a larger 5th wheel, and it will probably be a slider just for the hooking up. I've seen friends and family 1st hand wreck their tailgate hooking up. The price difference between slider/non is less than a new tailgate

@Tx-Tremor6.7 I do need the slider with my Momentum 5th Wheel. The front cap hangs over the king pin by 1' and even though it slopes away to the sides I can contact my headache rack if I turn too tight. Most of my trips are in the western back country on dirt/4x4 roads so I need to be able to maneuver my trailer in very tight/rough places and need the 90* turning ability. Sliding it back also helps with bed rail clearance on uneven ground - I have 7 1/2" bed rail clearance with a level ride. The hitch is solid and the ride is superb with with my Gen Y torsion flex Executive King Pin Box. I don't even notice the 16,800 lb trailer being towed even up the steepest Colorado passes (until I pull into the fuel station). I installed the B&W turnover ball hitch in my truck myself when I got it home from the dealer - Took about 4 hours. I have owned the Slider for 4 years and used it with my '97 Powerstroke and don't remember what I paid for it. To be honest I would prefer a GooseBox hitch as it frees up my bed and most of my trailers are Gooseneck hitches. My old 5th Wheel had a GooseBox and loved it but on that trailer the king pin was 1' in front of the cap and I didn't have the clearance issues. The Goosebox does not work with the Momentum for me. Every trailer is different - check out the clearances for your trailer or any trailer you are planning on purchasing in the future to decide if the slider is what you need.

I currently have a short bed F250 and steel rail mounted Andersen hitch. (Previously I had a Reese hitch and Reese Revolution box.) I will never go back to any other style after using the Andersen. It is just that good and there is no reason to go with a heavy slider hitch.

I have a Grand Design 303RLS 12,000lbs fully loaded 34' and I travel about 7 months a year. I can turn more than 90 degrees and still have room for my 50 gallon tool box diesel tank in the bed. Easy to hitch, makes no noise, smooth towing, lightweight and easy to put in and take out. If/when I ever get the new F350 I will use the same hitch.

I have a new F350 SB with puck system with a new B&W slider hitch.
I agree with Harrycomes, and paying the difference for the slider hitch is worth it. It takes just one time to damage the cap on the 5th wheel of crush your truck cab and back glass to pay for it. I saw two weeks ago a guy jack knifed his rig into a rv spot and crushed the cab and it cracked the glass.
